4 Conceptualize photographic illustration Various assigned readings from textbooks Portfolios Presentations In-class discussions Group and/or individual projects Instructor's Requirements All work will be graded an a percentile scale. Anything not turned in on time will receive a grade of zero. Work cannot be turned in late. Therefore, it is imperative that you retain proof that you turned in the required work at the required time. Without proof, grades will not be changed. Just doing the minimal requirements for each assignment will not result in a grade higher then average. LAB POLICY The lab contains electrical equipment, which can be hazardous. Therefore, no unsupervised children are allowed in studio areas at any time. Only students and adult models are allowed in the studio. Please do not bring unsupervised children to lab. For the same reasons, no food or drink is allowed in studio at any time. It is assumed and expected that students treat studio areas and equipment with respect in regards to safety. If at any time a student demonstrates they are incapable of acting in an adult and responsible manner, they will be asked to leave, and will fail the class. By registering for this class the student understands that any of the studio equipment they use or checkout is their responsibility. Program/Discipline Requirements: If applicable SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY Students are responsible for conducting themselves with honor and integrity in fulfilling course requirements. Penalties and disciplinary proceedings will be initiated by College System officials against a student accused of scholastic dishonesty. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating (II a test, plagiarism, and collusion. Punishment for scholastic dishonesty will include an automatic grade of F in the course and recommendation for probation or dismissal from the college WITHDRAWAL POLICY Class Attendance Students are expected to attend classes regularly. Students are responsible for material covered during their absences, and it is the student s responsibility to consult with instructors for makeup assignments. Class attendance is checked daily by instructors. Although it is the responsibility of the student to drop a course for non-attendance, the instructor has the authority to drop a student for excessive absences. A student may be dropped from a course for absenteeism after the student has accumulated absences in excess of 12.5 percent of the hours of instruction (including lecture and laboratory time). For example: For a three credit-hour lecture class meeting three hours per week (48 hours of instruction), a student may be dropped after six hours of absences. For a four credit-hour lecture/lab course meeting six hours per week (96 hours of instruction), a student may be dropped after 12 hours of absences. Certain departments or programs may be governed by accrediting or certification standards that require more stringent attendance policies. NOTE: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO WITHDRAW OFFICIALLY FROM A COURSE. Administrative drops are at the discretion of the instructor. Failure of a student to withdraw officially could result in the student receiving a grade of F in the course. For the deadline for course withdrawal, check the current course Schedule of courses.
5 HCC Grading Scale: A = points per semester hour B = 89-80: C = 79-70: D = 69-60: 3 points per semester hour 2 points per semester hour 1 point per semester hour 59 and below = F FX (Failure due to non-attendance) IP (In Progress) W (Withdrawn) I (Incomplete) AUD (Audit) IP (In Progress) is given only in certain developmental courses. The student must re-enroll to receive credit. COM (Completed) is given in non-credit and continuing education courses. FINAL GRADE OF FX: Students who stop attending class and do not withdraw themselves prior to the withdrawal deadline may either be dropped by their professor for excessive absences or be assigned the final grade of "FX" at the end of the semester. Students who stop attending classes will receive a grade of "FX", compared to an earned grade of "F" which is due to poor performance. Logging into a DE course without active participation is seen as nonattending. Please note that HCC will not disperse financial aid funding for students who have never attended class. Students who receive financial aid but fail to attend class will be reported to the Department of Education and may have to pay back their aid. A grade of "FX" is treated exactly the same as a grade of "F" in terms of GPA, probation, suspension, and satisfactory academic progress. To compute grade point average (GPA), divide the total grade points by the total number of semester hours attempted. The grades "IP," "COM" and "I" do not affect GPA. Health Sciences Programs Grading Scales may differ from the approved HCC Grading Scale. For Health Sciences Programs Grading Scales, see the "Program Discipline Requirements" section of the Program's syllabi. Instructor Grading Criteria EVALUATION Final grades will be determined by the results in the following areas: 10% Tests (quizes), papers, and exercises. These will be given to insure you are keeping up with the class and the material presented. 10% Class Participation This is not only attendance, but also your contributions to the class.
