1 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE The purpose of the Capital City Corvette Club Collin Nethaway Memorial Scholarship is to provide a monetary award to students who have shown outstanding effort in their performance, attendance and work habits while at the Auto Technician or Collision Repair Programs at the ; and plan to further their education in the automotive career field. SELECTION CRITERIA Documentation of scholastic achievement, work experiences, after school jobs, co-op experiences, volunteer activities, and sports or other extracurricular activities, goals that have been accomplished, community or leadership activities, etc., will enhance the applicants opportunity to be awarded this scholarship. The applicant s performance, attendance and work habits in a career/technical program while at CACC will be considered. The Minimum Criteria is as follows: 80% achievement level or higher in each term of the senior year at CACC Instructor Recommendation Attendance that meets your CACC Instructor s standards A scholarship committee appointed by Jeffrey Bohl, CACC Principal, will determine the selection of finalists. Scholarships will be awarded to students who graduate this school year from high school and from the Auto Technology or Collision Repair programs at the, and who meet the criteria established for this scholarship. APPLICATION PROCEDURE 1. The scholarship application is available through the CACC Automotive Technology and Collision Repair instructors. Download, print, and completely fill out the scholarship. Spelling, grammar and punctuation will be considered as part of the evaluation of your answers. 2. A copy of your CACC attendance and your CACC student report card must be attached to the application in order to be considered for this scholarship. (see Attendance for copies) 3. Completed applications and attachments are to be turned in to your CACC instructor. Instructors will attach their letter of recommendation, and forward it to the CACC Main Office. 4. All applications must be turned in by 3:30, Tuesday, April 20, Payment of scholarships will be made directly to the selected recipients upon proof of payment of tuition, fees, or other direct educational expenses. These scholarship funds will be available to recipients through May, 2011.

3 When friends and family reflect on the life of Collin Nethaway, two themes are consistently mentioned. The first is his love of cars. The second is how he cared for others. This was exemplified in his willingness to help anyone. Collin was beginning his second year in the s Automotive Technology program, having maintained an A average in his first year. In his Senior year, after completing his required credits at Holt High School, Collin planned to attend CACC for the full day and to use his time to compete the class work required to be a Certified Auto Technician, as well as rebuild a project car for the CACC Motorsports Team. Collin was not only on the CACC Motorsports Team, but as a junior he had been tapped as a driver in the 2007 Spring Races. Mr. and Mrs. Nethaway recalled that day at the track as one of the happiest days of his life. While academic success did not come easily to Collin in the traditional school setting, in the Auto Tech program his strengths were brought out and his level of confidence in himself and in his work soared. Another quality for which Collin will always be remembered was his ability to get along with everyone. Comments from his friends included, He was always willing to help out anyone with an automotive-related question, and if he didn't know the answer he would find it." Another mentioned that Collin was always there for the other students and friends, always the first one to offer his help and assistance. When a student s wheel chair was not working in the halls of Holt High School, it was Collin who stopped to help fix it. Collin was clearly respected and admired by his peers.

4 In his chosen field, Collin was a leader and inspired the students around him to do their best work. His death brought attention to his life choices and opened doors for others to consider that they could be like him. Collin exemplifies the success a student can find by following his own path. It is in Collin s memory that the Capital City Corvette Club and his parents, Kurt and Julie Nethaway, have given these scholarships for other students who have found their path, to help them live their dreams.
