4 All Academic & Career Readiness programs provide basic educational opportunities for adults aged 16 years or older, and are held at the Carrington-Scott Campus (Graham), at the Dillingham Center (Burlington), and/or at corporate and community sites throughout Alamance County. To enroll today, call ALL ACADEMIC & CAREER READINESS PROGRAMS ARE FREE Adult High School Call This program helps adults who have not graduated from high school to complete their credentials through individualized instruction. Classes are available day, evening, and online. Graduates receive a diploma jointly issued by the Alamance- Burlington School System and Alamance Community College. GED Program Call This high school completion program is designed to prepare adults to take the GED tests. Areas of study include writing and reading, social studies, science and math. The State Board of the N.C. Community College System awards students a GED high school equivalency certification upon a satisfactory score on the GED tests. Call for more information. Administrative Professional Assistant This program provides training for individuals desiring employment in an office setting. Modules include Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint using Office You will learn these individual parts of the Office 2013 suite and how they can interact to improve efficiency in the workplace. The cost of the 3 courses in the series is $274 if taken individually. The APA series is offered at a cost of $183, for a savings of $91. This course is designed to prepare you to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification(s), which you may take through ACC for FREE! Call or for more information. In this course you will learn procedures common to all Windows programs. The instructor will teach file management; how to set up folders and subfolders; and how to move, copy and delete files. You will also learn to cut and paste, copy, move, drag and drop, and use the save and save as commands. You will learn how to go from portable storage devices such as CDs to the hard drive and vice versa and how to customize your Windows desktop. 6 Excel (Microsoft) for Windows Excel is a full-featured spreadsheet program that is part of the Microsoft Office package. Currently the most widely used spreadsheet in business, this program has enormous capabilities for manipulating and analyzing numeric data. In these classes, you will learn Excel functions such as building formulas, editing and formatting cell contents, filtering data, charting, working with multiple spreadsheets, and pivot table. You should have prior experience using Windows before taking these courses. Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Prep Today s information workers use Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access to accomplish their work, yet most only use about 20% of the software s features. This course is designed for persons who have intermediate to expert Microsoft skills, and are interested in going through a series of practice tests and self-paced training in preparation for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. Students use the Gemetrix software that administers practice tests that are performance-based simulations to provide the best assessment of real-world experience. Testing and training modes provide step-by-step help for each question. Students get detailed, printable score reports highlighting areas requiring further review. Students also have free use of the Career Assistance Lab to use Gemetrix outside of class times. At the end of the course, students will take the MOS tests for free (tests are normally $ each). Students who receive the MOS certificate, and pursue the ACC Information Technology degree, will get credit for the CIS 110 class. In this class you will learn to make personalized creations like collages, greeting cards, CD jackets and un-clutter and repair photos using basic and advanced modes. Learn to use the powerful Organizer to maintain your inventory of images, making it easy to find and use your images, as well as how to make simple photo fix improvements to your images using the built-in tools. In this course you will learn to make compelling presentations with graphics (and/or sound), animations, special transition effects, and much more. This program has tremendous capability for working with all sorts of written communications. In this course you will learn to take a document from conception to completion, including formatting,

7 mail merge, inserting graphics and tables, and using templates and styles. You should have prior experience or education in Windows before taking this course. Call or for more information. Construction and Trades Welding Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metals. Because of its strength, welding is used to build and repair a myriad of products, from pipelines and power plants to ships and spacecraft. This course will teach introductory welding techniques and is designed for anyone seeking to advance their skills. Call the ACC Welding Department at for information about required personal protection equipment. Students must also have accident insurance, which may be purchased from the college. *Equipment needed: safety glasses, welding shield, welding jacket, welding gloves, work boots, and proper clothing. Location: ACC Hours: 32 Fee: $128* /21-7/16 TH 6:30-10:30 p.m. PAY BY 5/18 Welding For Artists This course will focus on basic MIG welding, plasma cutting, and forging to teach these skills to artists in order to help them with their work. We will introduce students to basic fabrication skills to create custom pieces. Students will have the chance to work with a variety of materials. This course will satisfy the 35 contact hours for project management education that allows eligible candidates to sit for the PMP exam. Who should attend: eligible project managers, team members, and individuals who are preparing to sit for their PMP certification exam. Location: ACC Hours: 36 Fee: $128* 6/1-8/17 M 6-9 pm Yellow Belt Certificate Program Course provides an orientation to the Lean basic history, concepts, and improvement process. Training focuses on how to apply and develop Kaizen and Lean principles for minimizing the amount of time and resources used in work processes by elimination of waste and defects. Yellow Belts participate as a core team member or subject matter expert (SME) on a project or projects. They gather data, participate in problem-solving exercises, and add their personal experiences to the exploration process. Not only do Yellow Belts learn the skills necessary to identify, monitor, and control profit-eating practices in their own processes, but they are also prepared to feed that information to other Green Belts and Black Belts. 8 ACC/NCSU Green Belt Certificate Program SECTION 1: Learn the tools and skills needed to plan and complete a Lean Six Sigma certification project. Work on teams led by Lean Six Sigma Black Belts. Help your organization implement Lean Six Sigma effectively. Prerequisite: Yellow Belt Certification or Credit by Exam. Location: ACC Hours: 36 Fee: $378 (reg. $128/text $250) 4/13-7/6 M 6-9 p.m. 7/13-10/5 M 6-9 p.m. SECTION 2: Training in the statistical tools needed to implement Lean Six Sigma projects using Minitab statistical software for quality improvement and data analysis. Lean Six Sigma projects require company approval and 6 month/6 hours (1hour each month) Project Review Class attendance. Black Belts use two powerful methodologies, Lean and Six Sigma for reducing waste, speeding up processes, and determining root cause of problems and are full time leaders, change agents, and practitioners of Lean Six Sigma. Prerequisite: Green Belt Section 1, 2 Location: ACC Hours: 42 Fee: $428 (reg. $128/text $300) 6/9-9/8 T 6-9 p.m. SECTION 2: Class focuses on Six Sigma Project planning and development. Black Belt instructor serves as mentor to Project formatting. Six Sigma projects require company approval and 6 month/6 hours (1 hour each month) Project Review Class attendance. 9 Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) The BLET course is required in order to become a law enforcement officer in NC. This course covers all of the topics mandated by the NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Students must be sponsored by a law enforcement agency, and need to be at least 20 years of age to be able to take the state exam. Application packets are available at both the main campus and the Burlington Center. Emergency Medical Technician This is the course you need to take if you are seeking a basic EMT credential. Upon successful completion of the coursework, you must take and pass a state EMT exam in order to be credentialed as an EMT. This course is also a prerequisite for advanced credentials such as EMT-I or Paramedic. In the basic course, you will learn emergency treatment for a variety of serious medical situations. Emergency Medical Technician: Paramedic This is the course you need if you have already completed EMT and wish to progress to the Paramedic level. 10 Firefighter Cadet Training Program This program is designed to prepare individuals for employment as firefighters. It will include the coursework necessary to complete Firefighter I & II certification. You must be able to pass a pre-entrance physical and a reading comprehension test. Classes will meet Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is an excellent way to prepare you for a career in firefighting in the shortest time possible. We encourage both minority and female applicants to apply. It is strongly recommended that fire cadets take the EMT-Basic course as well. In-Service Law Enforcement Training ACC offers many of the mandated and a number of non-mandated courses for law enforcement in-service training. For more information, contact Gene Perry at International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) For more information, call Medication Aide This 24-hour NC Board of Nursing-approved course is designed for candidates seeking medication aide credentialing in North Carolina. After successful completion of this course, you must then pass the NC Medication Aider exam administered by Pearson Vue. You must pass a 24-hour NC Board of Nursing-approved Medication Aide training program and pass the NC Medication Aide exam to be listed on the NC Medication Aide Registry. Participants must be a nurse aide on the NC Nurse Aide Registry. When registering for this course, we will need to make a copy of your driver s license and social security card; also, you must show proof of high school completion (diploma or GED). To be eligible to take the course, you are required (1) to have been listed in good standing on the N.C. Nurse Aide Registry within the last four years OR (2) to have been listed in good standing with another state within the last four years. Coursework is required, and the class size is limited. The HRD program is student-centered and focuses on the creation of activities geared towards the acquisition of work-related skills, the establishment of a variety of options for upgrading employment-related skills, and the development of proactive outreach and instructional strategies to help students reach their goals.
