CSYMA is a professional teachermcentred organisation networking Catholic secondary schools, staff and organisations with the goal of further empowering staff and students in evangelisation. Developed in 2007 by Peter Woods, a teacher at St Edmunds College Canberra,alongwithFrChrisRyanMGL,theprogramhasnowbeenadoptedbyschoolsand diocesesaustraliamwide. 4 6 For this reason, Catholic educators need a formation of the heart : they need to be led to that encounter with God in Christ which awakens their love and opens their spirits to others, so that their educational commitment becomes a consequence deriving from their faith, a faith which becomes active through love apart from their theological formation, educators need also to cultivate their spiritual formation in order to develop their relationship with Jesus Christ. - Congregation for Catholic Education Teachers have a crucial role in the evangelising mission of the Church and in the personal faith formation of the youth they interact with. The CSYMA Teachers Evangelisation Network (TEN) seeks to provide a structured model of formation that supports in their vocation as teachers in Catholic schools. This is achieved through the CSYMAFourPhaseStaffFormationModel. focus area one CSYMA TEACHERS EVANGELISATION NETWORK PHASE ONE Teacher Renewal Experience: Porta Fidei. 6 8 focus area two CSYMA YOUTH MINISTRY The CSYMA Youth Ministry Membership encompasses the CSYMA vision in inspiring and equippingschoolstobecomethecentresofthenewevangelisationthroughbothteacher andstudentpathwaysforfaithformationandserviceopportunities.youthministryentitles thememberschooltoallofthebenefitsofcsymatenaswellasthoseprovidedthrough thefourphaseyouthministrymodel. ThegoalistointegratethemodelofformationintotheheartoftheschoolMwidecurriculum soastobringaboutasignificantchangeinthe CatholicFaithCulture ofstudentsandstaff. The CSYMA Youth Ministry model is integrated into year levels creating a Youth Ministry PathwayforstudentstoprogressthroughwhistatSchool. NurtureMtoenablestudentstobecomeDisciplesofJesusthroughadailywalkof faith,prayer,fellowship,serviceandmission. EducationinFaithMtoofferteachingtostudentsinareasofdoctrine,Scripture andspiritualitysothatfaithexperiencemightfindunderstanding. InitiationMtoincorporatestudentsintothelifeoftheChurch,andtodevelopin themcatholicidentity,includingdrawingyoungpeopleintosacramental participation. Phase One Initial Retreat Experience Phase Two Youth Ministry Currciulum Pathway Phase Three Youth Ministry Teams Phase Four Post-School Connection with Broader Church PHASE ONE Retreat or Youth Ministry Experience Phase One is an integral part of the formation program as it provides an opportunity to presentandembracetheyouthministrymessageandprinciplestoyoungpeople.suchan experience can be completed through the Catch The Wave video resource in conjunction withaffiliatedretreatteamsandthecsymanationalteam. PHASE TWO Religious Education Youth Ministry Units of Study PhaseTwofocusesonthedevelopmentofa'YouthMinistryClassroomCurriculumPathway' which provides the context for onmgoing formation of young people in a regular way. This development of a pathway is completed in a way that suits a local school context. TheCSYMANationalTeam EmploymentasYouthMinistersinCSYMASchoolsorCEO s. Integration within the local Church and in Church wide religious events and pilgrimages. InvolvementwiththePartneredMinistryOrganisations. Participation or leading a CSYMA Homeland (Eucharist based fortnightly studentgathering) This Four Phase Youth Ministry Model is developed by a school taking into account local resources,timetables,andtheexistingr.e.curriculum.theyouthministrymodelisflexible to accommodate such needs, with the most affective pathway outlined in a tailored IndividualSchoolPlan thatiscompletedinconsultationwithcsyma.

11 focus area three CSYMA JUNIOR 13 CSYMAYouthMinistryhasbeenimplemented in a myriad of Secondary Schools contexts throughout Australia. After the successful development of Youth Ministry in these schools,therehasbeenagrowingneedfora Model of Ministry that announces the Kerygma at its core, that can give Primary Schoolstudentsanauthenticfaithexperience. In 2014, CSYMA is formally developing a Youth Ministry program for Catholic Primary Schools called CSYMA Junior. CSYMA Junior utilises a Four Phase Model of Primary School Formation. ThisFourPhaseModelofPrimarySchoolFormationincludes: one two three four InitialRetreatExperience: CatchtheWaveJunior afaithandministryexperiencethat delvesintocoreconceptsofthecatholicfaithsuchasgod slove,thesalvationmessage andreconciliationataprimaryschoollevel. CurriculumPackage: DailyTalkswithGod tobeimplementedinthecurriculumand run at the beginning of an R.E. lesson. Daily Talks with God provides daily Gospel teachings for students to further form them in their faith after the Catch the Wave Retreat. JuniorMinistryTeam oncestudentshavecompleted,orareundertaking,theinitialtwo Phases,theclassformsaJuniorMinistryTeamthatconductsasmallministryorservice Initiative. BeyondSchool AfterthesuccessfulcompletionofthefirstThree withinschool Phases ofcsymajunior,studentsareencouragedtoconnectwiththebroaderchurchincluding ParishandlocalCSYMASeniorYouthMinistryTeams. ThevisionfortheCSYMA NationalTeamis toformanetworkofpostmschoolyouthministersbeing formedinthecatholicfaith,evangelisationandmissioninthepoweroftheholyspirit.thecsyma National Team is a year of postmschool faith and mission and is open to committed school leavers engagedinministryaroundaustraliawhilstsupportingyouthministryinthecsymanetwork. AstheCSYMAYouthMinistryModelhasdevelopedinSchoolsacrosstheCSYMAnetwork,therehas beenagrowingneedforforming,equippingandsupportingstudentspostmschooltoenablethemto haveopportunitiestoeffectivelyserveinanonmgoingwayinthemissionofthecatholicchurch.itis focussingonthisaspectofthecsymavisionthatwillallowyoungpeopleformedintheirfaithand equippedinbasicministryskillstostayconnectedinthechurchandtonotbe lost intothefuture. CSYMAhopestodevelopfutureleadersintheChurchwhileatSchoolandtoprovidepathwaysfor thisleadershiptodevelopfurtherwhenleavingschool. There are three possible levels of' participation in the National Team. Each National Team memberparticipatesinthefourfaithandmissioncomponents. 1. CSYMA National Team Leader; leaders plan and implement the National Team s formation and mission opportunities throughout the year and provide support and guidancefromexperienceinyouthministryandpreviousyouthministerroles. 2. CSYMANationalTeam Member witha Youth Minister Placement (fullmtimeor partm time)inacsymaschoolordiocesaneducationoffice. 3. CSYMANationalTeamMemberwhoisinvolvedinministryinavoluntarycapacity.

13 Inadditiontoprovidingsupport,ongoingformationopportunitiesandextensivePastoralCare,there arefourfaith'and'mission'componentsofthenationalteam: 1. ParticipationattheYouthMinistryEquippingSchool; 2. MinistrywithyoungpeoplethroughaCSYMAYouthMinisterPlacementor voluntaryministrywithinthebroadercsymanetwork; 3. PlanningandconductingCSYMAEventsincludingShineStudentGatherings,Catch thewaveretreats,schoolvisitsandtrainingdays;and 4. ACrossMCulturalMissionopportunityprovidedthroughapartnershipwithAPSE. Being a part of the National Team has allowed me to take back a new energy and a whole new outlookonlifeintomylocalcommunity..belongingtothenationalteamhasbeenoneofthebest experiencesinmyfaithjourneyandnowi'vebeenabletotakebacknewskillsanddreamsintomy schoolcommunity. In 2014, CSYMA will form a Partnership with APSE and local Church Communities to bring together their individual initiatives to better capturethegraceofthenewevangelisationand provide young people in CSYMA Schools with a pathwaytoconnectwiththebroaderchurch. YOUTH MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL AIMS one two three four five TobuildadynamicfaithandmissionenvironmentforyouthinCatholicChurch Communities(ParishesandMovements)thatallowthemtogrowinthegrace ofthenewevangelisationanddevelopastrongcatholicidentity. To develop and provide effective evangelisation and mission pathways for youngpeoplefromschooltochurch. To build an environment of support for Youth Ministry works and conduct commonyouthministryinitiatives. To support and facilitate collaborative missionary endeavours nationally and internationally. Tobuildregionaltrainingcentres(Hubs)thatserveyouthministriesinCatholic SchoolsandParishes. YMIisacollaborativeworkbetweentheAsiaPacificSchoolofEvangelisation(APSE),CatholicSchools YouthMinistryAustralia(CSYMA)andLocalParishandMovementYouthMinistries. APSErealisestheYouthMinistryTrainingandMissionOutreachfocus CSYMArealisestheSchoolbasedYouthMinistryfocus Local'Parish'and'Movement'based'Youth'Ministries'focusondrawingyoungpeople intoparticipationinthelifeandmissionofthelocalchurch. YMI HUBS. ThesethreegroupsworktogetherinacentrallocationtoformaYMIHUB.AYMIHubwillprovide service to the regional Catholic Church by hosting Youth Ministry Equipping Schools. A HUB is a connecting point for regional YMI members including other ParishesMMovements and CSYMA Schools.

CSYMA is currently exploring international expansion in The YMI vision providesanopportunityforintegrationofcsymaandapsemorefullyintothelocalcatholicchurch Community. AcorefocusofYMIHubsandYMIParishandMovementYouthMinistrieswillbethedevelopmentofa YouthMass.YMIwillalsodevelopa PathwaysProgram toassistintheengagementofyoungpeople into Local Parishes and Movements from Schools. This program will include school visits, training programsandpromotionofymiministryinitiatives. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS YOUTH MINISTRY AUSTRALIA ASIA PACIFIC SCHOOL OF EVANGELISATION YMI HUB PARISH/MOVEMENT YOUTH MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL HUB In 2014, the Youth Ministries International St Benedict s Hub is being developed. This Hub draws togetherthebroadergroupsthatoperateinthecontextofthethreepartiesincludingcsyma,apse andthestbenedict smissioncentrewhichincorporatesdisciplesofjesusyouthministries.

We re about providing greater opportunities to embrace the love of God in people and places, whilehavingtheabsolutetimeofyourlife.
