Your employing organisation will directly benefit from your research, gaining valuable and objective feedback. This programme enables you to contribute to commercial and academic knowledge and, on graduation, you will possess a specialist range of problem solving and decision making strategies to take you to the next level of success. The programme team s research interests reflect a widerange of knowledge and skills, ensuring your learning is grounded in the latest thinking and developments. The DBA will enhance your ability to develop new knowledge and to apply that knowledge in a professional context, making a real impact on individuals and organisations. It will also equip you with the necessary skills to undertake rigorous research, while providing the flexibility to carry out individual research projects that impact on the organisation and industry in which you operate. The programme is aimed at senior, experienced professionals who are qualified in their own areas of professional practice. It will also appeal to managers who are looking for a new challenge. n Leadership n Project Management n Managing Finance n Marketing Management n Managing Process and Operations n Research Methods for Management n Strategic Management n Change and Knowledge Management n Dissertation n Managing Information n Investigative project If you are employed during the course of your DBA, you will probably undertake research which directly links to your employer s area of business. This will be of great benefit to you and your employer, particularly if you are focused on a large-scale project. Previous students have found that the research undertaken during their DBA has helped them gain valuable and objective feedback which has provided their employers with high levels of focused, internal consultancy. n Part time (18 to 36 months) You should be well-qualified in your chosen field and possess a businessrelated Masters degree (e.g. MBA) or equivalent qualification, supplemented with sufficient recent business and management experience appropriate to the research being undertaken. The admission process requires an initial proposal for subsequent investigation. An IELTS score of 6.5 is required if English is your second language. LJMU has a reputation as one of the top business schools in the world. It provides an inspirational learning experience with the highest quality of lecturers, doctoral conferences, visiting business leaders and candidates from around the world. Binu Varghese, current DBA student

19 Research degrees (MPhil/PhD) MPhil or PhD n MPhil (full-time months, part-time months), PhD (full-time months, part-time months) n Opportunities to conduct an individual and exciting body of research in areas such as business, commerce, digital marketing, strategic management, human resource development, knowledge management, sustainability and social enterprises n Research within the School can either be conducted by individual accomplished faculty members or aligned to one of our research centres Our Doctoral programmes attract national and international research students who complement our areas of research expertise and are valued members of the School s research community. This is an exciting time to carry out research at Liverpool Business School. Our current research students and academic staff are working across a range of topics, covering social enterprises, corporate and social responsibility, social return on investment, ethnography, place marketing and entrepreneurship. Doctoral students are encouraged to publish their research, in collaboration with their supervisors, during the life of the programme. Doctoral students have access to their own research suite in Redmonds Building, so they can establish a base at the University from which to conduct their research and forge supportive networks with other students and staff. Students also have access to LJMU s comprehensive library service and regular meetings with supervisors. I was surprised by the amount of time our supervisors spent with us. They gave us lots of support. Dieter Früauff completed a Doctorate in Business Administration. He is Senior Vice- President at Frankfurt Airport and his thesis on knowledge management focused on the Airport s business processes. He is pictured with Marion Kahrens, who works in a senior position for 1&1 Internet AG, who also graduated with a DBA.
