Texas Market (cont.) The consumer may own a HAN and related devices to monitor and manage energy usage, or may obtain them via service or other business arrangement from REPs or 3 rd parties No PUC requirements will be established for in premise functions, beyond the meter to HAN function Usage data capture within the HAN directly from the meter or the SMT portal are the customers, and they have responsibility for such data, including how they secure it, with whom and how they may share it Much like WiFi based HANs already in homes today REPs may utilize any communication they choose to implement demand response or other energy service functions The utility AMS system is one avenue for the defined set of functions Consumer broadband or other communication networks may also be utilized

Texas Market (cont.) Advanced Metering System (Market Perspective) Market / Daily 15 Minute Settlement Transactions Retail Electric Provider Electric Utility Market Transactions ERCOT ( Monthly Meter Readings and Daily 15 Minute VEE Data ) Daily 15 Minute VEE Meter Data Optional Path for Retail Electric Provider HAN Services Meter / HAN Services ( Daily 15 Minute VEE Meter Data) Meter / HAN Services (thru Oncor system) and future path for Daily 15 Minute VEE Meter Data Historic i Daily 15 Minute VEE Meter Data and limited Meter / HAN Services SMART METER TEXAS Host Consumer Daily 15 Minute Meter Data and Meter / HAN Transactions Over Utility Infrastructure 5

Why is Oncor involved with Home Area Networks? Commitment to PUCT to enable the Smart Grid for the end use consumer System Validation SmartMeter Texas Portal AMI Head End ZigBee Firmware in the meter Gain understanding of HAN device interaction with the meter

Oncor HAN Testing Program End to end interoperability testing through the SMT Portal to the HAN for SEP 1.0 requirements Provisioning Send/Cancel Load Control Message Send/Cancel Text Message Send Current Price Send Next Price Send dpi Price Event Send Tiered Pricing, Tier 1 5 DeProvisioning

Oncor HAN Testing Program (cont.) Worked interactively w/ami vendor and HAN equipment vendors to resolve errors found during testing Differences in interpretation of SEP v1.0 Specifications Chasing bugs HAN device firmware Meter firmware AMI headend software SMT software

Testing goal: Make sure the AMI headend and meter firmware can successfully respond to all interpretations of the SEP v1.0 specification Ultimate goal: Through interaction w/the ZigBee Alliance, work to drive out the variability in the SEP 1.0 specification Any HAN device with the ZigBee Smart Energy seal can be successfully provisioned and operate with any compatible Smart meter in Texas, California, or the country

Oncor Roadshow Publically demonstrating end to end interoperability in a portable environment DistribuTECH Tampa IEEE T&D Show New Orleans CS Week Nashville

ZigFesTx Oncor and CenterPoint are sponsoring a series of ZigBee test events in Texas Two testing stages Preproduction equipment testing against the standard ZigBee SEP 1.0 test harness Hardware w/production security certificates testing end to end through the SMT portal and L+G and Itron AMI headends and meters Multiple meters and multiple devices in a simulated production environment

ZigFesTx Test teams met in Houston the last week of April to write the test scripts First event was held in Ft. Worth last week 10 vendors in attendance XX devices tested Several additional events planned for this summer and fall fll

HAN Device Deployment Oncor is deploying small numbers of HAN devices w/employees for field tests Oncor will be deploying 500 IHDs throughout its deployed service territory in early July to help publicize the Smart Grid RFP issued for a Texas (ERCOT) wide low income program to issue IHDs to qualified residents to allow them to take advantage of available smart grid information

The Texas Market Several Retail Electric Providers are planning production deployments of HAN devices this summer.

Final Thoughts: Smart Energy Profile v1.0 HAN devices work in production environments Th T k i ih 1 illi The Texas market is open with over 1 million smart meters in sockets
