2 Section 1: Program Abstract 1.1 Abstract Humber's four-year Bachelor of Commerce (Human ) degree program focuses on applied professional HR practices and solutions. Students develop expertise in: career development compensation, pension and benefit plans labour relations and employment law international HRM HR managerial accounting recruitment and selection performance management health and safety training and development strategic planning. In the first two years of the program, students develop general business management skills through courses in marketing, finance, accounting, human resources management, operations management, economics and law. In the next two years, students complete their HR specialization. Students gain practical experience through case studies and industry-sponsored projects, such as developing a business plan for the start-up of a new HR department. Students learn how to develop processes from the idea stage through to execution. The program is taught by experienced faculty and a network of industry professionals who help students understand the latest challenges in HR. Between years three and four, students complete a paid placement, giving them valuable industry experience. The Human Resource Professionals Association (HRPA) recognizes Humber s degree as meeting the course requirements for the nine designated courses for the Certified Human Professional (CHRP) designation. Humber s Bachelor of Commerce degrees have also been accredited by the Canadian Institute of as meeting the educational requirements for the Certified in (CIM) designation. B.Comm.
