The Centre culturel numérique Saint-Éxupéry organizes the 12th instance of the nuitnumérique The nuitnumérique (digital night) is a multidisciplinary event about digital culture and the only meeting on digital art in Champagne-Ardenne. It occurs on March 14th 2015, from 6 :00pm to 1 :00am and offers a journey around artworks and installations. It is also the opening of the expocollective (collective exhibition) which will last from March 17th to May 23rd expohorslesmurs (extra muros exhibition) from March 3rd to April 25th 2015 in the public libraries of the city of Reims nuitnumérique#12 Saturday, March 14th :00pm > 1 :00am at Saint-Ex expocollective (collective exhibition) from March 17th to May 23rd 2015 at Saint-Ex In this all digital era where the future is more and more there, one speaks about connected machines, tools of digital making, home automation and about laboratories for digital applications. One can learn how to code from a very yound age and create new communities where trade and DIY prevail. In that new world connected to more digital than human interfaces, the artists who we offer you to discover this year dive us into a parallel, playful and lyrical world. We invite you to be surprised in this new dimension and to be filled with wonder in front of a digital participatory artwork. Bring back the patron in the heart of the process. Maintain every technical detail hidden, so that the body becomes interface, on your own or together, and so that the artwork reveals itself. Those individual or collective interventions are often simple to approach, but they raise consciousness on new civic commitments of sharing and solidarity. Exhibition tour press and sponsors March 14th :30pm at Saint-Ex (In the presence of the artists and Clémentine Treu, artistic director of Saint-Ex)

Antoine Schmitt France, 2012 City Lights Orchestra Participatory installation in the whole city of Reims At night, each computer connected to Internet lights the window of the office or the house, and blicks, pulses, beats, is switched on and off, each one according to its own music sheet, but in rythm with all the others. Each individual can participate at any time : the symphony is designed to take in an unlimited number of participants and never stops. It rewrites itself continuously, according to a living music sheet generated from an starting musical DNA. The entire city becomes the orchestra : both performer and viewer of this illuminated poetic symphony which plays during that nuitnumérique. USER INSTRUCTIONS Go to the website put your browser in full screen mode, inactivate your screen energy saver and switch off your lights. Turn the screen directly toward the window covered with a sheet or white paper, toward the wall opposite to the window or toward the ceiling. Up to you to find the best way to make the light stronger. Then, go out in the street and Watch! Your window has become a giant pixel playing its own music sheet of the symphony, alongside all the other participants of City Lights Orchestra! VIDEO CONTEST Take part in the event on Twitter Instagram Facebook Vine Google+ with the hashtag #citylightsorchestra and send us your most beautiful pictures of windows becoming pixels! Come and meet us at Saint-Ex to share and talk about that experience. > In partnership with the City of Reims and the URCA university. Antoine Schmitt is a visual artist who creates works of several forms (objects, installations and happenings) to treat about movement processes and wonder about the inherent issues, of visual, philosophical or social nature. In the tradition of kinetic art, he questions relentlessly the dynamic interactions between the human nature and the nature of reality. His work has won severy awards in international festivals : transmediale, Electronic Ars, and has been exhibited among others at the Centre George Pompidou and at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris as well as at Sonar in Barcelona (Spain).

pangenerator Poland, 2013 Constellaction Audio-visual interactive installation Constellaction is composed of 400 blinking tetrahedrons which react to a light flash by producing a light and sound flash themselves. By lighting one of the pyramids, you will produce a luminous domino-effect. The installation invites participants to create they own constellations, which will see the light spread step by step. A clever aesthetic and poetic metaphor on sharing and spreading ideas. pangenerator is an interdisciplinary new media design and art group based in Warsaw, Poland. Since 2010 they are creating works of art and desing that explore the new means of expression and interaction. They are blending bits, beats and atoms, providing truly innovative products, and engaging experiences for audiences of art galeries, museums and festivals. Their projects are ranging from large scale interactive installations to the novel musical interfaces and tiny wearable-tech objects. Apart from their creative endeavours, they are involved into new media tech and art education, frequently handling the workshops on the subject.

S. de Diesbach, J. Lacôte, L. Perrenoud Switzerland, 2013 Computer Orchestra Interactive installation The Computer Orchestra project will not transform you into a mere conductor in the classical meaning of the word, since it allows its users to train in front of an orchestra of computers. One sound per computer, all listed in a simple application. After having adjusted the detection zone of each computer, the concert shall begin. Captured by a Kinect, the conductor s movements activate the various samples and create a digital orchestra, which invites to rethink the place of the digital technologies in the current musical composition. Simon de Diesbach, Jonas Lacôte and Laura Perrenoud studied at ECAL, an art and design university in Lausanne (Switzerland). They are specialized in «Media and Interaction Design». Their works are innovative interactive projects; mixing installation, video and game design.

Compagnie ALIS France, 2015 Un tour demain Participatory installation Un tour demain invites to discover the lyrical possibilities which hide within each word. We can handle written words with both hands, play with their graphism, and discover what hides in them. The connections can be surprising and gratifying between the hand, the eye, the mouth, the ear, between tangibility and potentiality, between sceens and papers, alphabetic codes and digital ones. Founded in 1982 by Pierre Fourny and located in Fère-en Tardenois (Aisne) since 1990, ALIS develops an artistic practice that fails to fall under conventional well-known subjects. In their artistic multiform illustrations (scenic performances, installations, object design, videos, books ), one can handle or redirect signs perfectly recognizable by all (advertizment images, daily life objects, symbols ) to open on new meanings. It is also in this DIY spirit that ALIS turned to image technologies, first as slides and then digital. From the 2000s on, ALIS focuses on the profileration of «half-words» poetry, as imagined by Pierre Fourny, by taking an interest more intensely in the handling and diversion of letters in our alphabet, of words, of writing and reading in a contemporary context of hypermediatism that tends to turn their use upside down.

Takahiro Matsuo Japan, 2006 Phantasm Interactive installation You enter an enchanting digital world. A glowing ball of light in your hand, the butterflies react to the light, fly towards it and follow it. If you cover the ball with your hands, the butterflies disappear and you are brought back to the real world. The light ball is equipped with LEDs and serves as the interface, the connection between you and the virtual world of "Phantasm". The activities of the butterflies and the background soundscape react to changes with respect to the ball its movements and the varying intensity of its light. Takahiro Matsuo was born in Japan in 1979 and studied Art and Information at the Design Institute of Kyushu. He has created several installations for museums, galleries, exhibitions and theater stages. Combining the physical movements of participants to graphic light and sound designs, his work invites to dive in a fantasy enchanting expérience. His artworks activate the imagination and reactive memories. His light installations open a new space, between reality and irreality, which takes our humankind beyond nationalities and generations. Lately, Takahiro Matsuo was exhibited in several places around the world and in art and design festivals such as Ars Electronica (Austria), Siggraph (USA) and Milano Salone (Italy).

Lab212 France, 2013 Appel d Air Interactive installation Appel d Air is an installation providing its audience the opportunity to interact with wind. By blowing on a tiny paper windmill, users trigger an industrial fan. The wind s response is proportional in both duration and intensity to the input it received from the person who started the conversation. Through this mime, the installation incites to establish a narrow physical tie with that industrial machine. Lab212 is a multimedia collective, founded in 2008 by some friends. The collective is now made of 10 members whose skills in different fields allow them to deal with artistic, pedagogic or even commercial projects. From UX design to graphic design, programming, electronics and technical design, Lab212 is able to take care of most of the aspects required by innovative interactive projects. By its sensible, poetic and tangible approach of interactive design, Lab212 s projects try to empower users and cast a different light on the technology surrounding our daily life. Through its creations, Lab212 invite people to think about our relation with the world we live in and the people we live with. By following a user-centered approach, the collective creates strong, playful and inspiring interactive experiences which transform technology into something more. Since its creation, Lab212 had many opportunities to exhibit its works both in french and international events including: Fête de la Science (France), Festival International de l'affiche et du Graphisme de Chaumont (France), Cube Festival (France), FICAM festival (Morocco), OneDotZero (China, Russia, UK), Digital Content Expo (Japan), Campus Party (Spain, Colombia, Mexico), and more.

Pauline Saglio Switzerland / France, 2013 Rewind EXTRA MUROS Interactive installation Rewind is a digital clock collection designed to revive a physical link with the reading of the time that has become pervasive and unconscious since the digital revolution. While the movements relative to the reading of time are now gone, each clock offers a unique way to rewind its mechanism. When nowadays the gesture of interaction is minimized to touch, they propose to give it a more physical dimension by playing with recharge or energy release and either to rewind the clock to display the time, or to go back in time with the nostalgia evoked by the type of interaction. Their codes, drawing on childhood memories, transform what was once seen as a task into a fun activity. Born in 1989, Pauline Saglio made general studies to obtain an ES Baccalaureate in She stayed two more years in Paris to study at Penninghen s Atelier, and Atelier de Sèvre. She then followed her studies in Art at ECAL, Lausanne in Switzerland and joined the Media & Interaction Design Unit where she obtained a bachelor s degree with honors in As she made very academic schools, she is still very close to drawings throughout my work. She works a lot with animations she makes frame by frame but that she combines to programming and interactivity in order to break their linearity. She is currently working as an Assistant in the Visual Communication department at ECAL. EXTRA MUROS At the public library Jean Falala > from March 3rd to April 25th 2015 > free admission > In partnership with the public libraries of the city of Reims

Joëlle Aeschlimann Switzerland, 2012 Little Boxes EXTRA MUROS Interactive installation Little Boxes is a music box concept for ipad. It consists of a tangible part composed of three separate music boxes that interact with an ipad and an application. When placing one of the boxes on the ipad, it recognizes it and activates. The idea is that each box contains its own universe revealed by the action of the crank with an animation and melody proper to each. Joëlle Aeschlimann is a graphic and interactive designer born in Switzerland who enjoys working in the meeting of analog and digital media. She is graduated from Ecal University of Art and Design of Lausanne, and currently working between London and Lausanne. EXTRA MUROS Alternating between the public libraries Falala and Croix-Rouge > from March 3rd to April 25th 2015 > free admission > In partnership with the public libraries of the city of Reims
