10 Published Research by NSU Faculty Dr. Mikhail Noginov, Center for Materials Research Nature Photonics recently highlighted the works of Dr. Mikhail Noginov and research NSU in collaboration with Dr. Shaleev and Purdue University. The research effort was supported by several grants including the recently awarded NSF PREM: Photonic Metamaterials. Optical gain in a dielectric compensates for absorption losses in metallic nanoparticles. Highlights of "Enhancement of surface plasmons in an Ag aggregate by optical gain in a dielectric medium. 11 Research & Education at NSU Dr. Vina Punjabi, Jefferson Lab, Professor of Physics, Funded by DOE/J Lab Facility since 1989 $1,768,000 Polarization Experiments with Electromagnetic Probes Abstract: Measurements of the Proton Form Factors to Large Q 2 at Jefferson Lab J Lab data has had a significant impact on theoretical models of the nucleon. One of the fundamental goals of nuclear physics is to understand the structure and behavior of strongly interacting matter in terms of its basic constituents, quarks and gluons. To understand the dynamics of bound states of quarks, the study of electromagnetic form factors of nucleons at large Q 2 is a powerful tool. In three experiments at Jefferson Lab (JLab), the ratio of the electromagnetic elastic form factors of the proton, G Ep /G Mp was measured with high precision, up to four momentum transfer Q 2 of 8.5 GeV 2 with the recoil polarization technique. The most important goal of this research project is to involve NSU physics undergraduate students in the frontier nuclear physics research. Page 11
