Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution: The following activities have been undertaken by the various wings of the college reflecting the goals and objectives of the college. Encouraging global competence and Research with human face are the goals of the institution and the objectives are providing standard education and employability through developing the all-round personality of the student. The College leaves no stone unturned in directing all efforts to achieve the goals and objectives of the college. Accordingly the following activities have been undertaken by various departments to promote employability through global skills and to ensure all round development of the students. Ensured interaction between industry and academia by appointing members from the industry in the Board of Studies and also in the College Planning and Development Council to seek their advice. JKC o Dept. of Commerce o Dept. of Botany AP Paper Mills CTRI The JKC provides placements to the students in various MNCs like, INFOSYS, Satyam, Genpac. The JKC has been set up with a purpose to unleash potential of the students. The JKC also conducts campus Recruitments at the end of every year. The Nodal JKC Rajahmundry conducted Infosys Campus drive on 24 th December students of 13 colleges have participated. 28 students were selected in the campus drive in which 10 students are from Government College (A), Rajahmundry. It is a similar project sponsored by Hansa Solutions, a Hyderabad based software organization. The training aims at training 100 students in 2 batches in Communication skills and Technical Skills so as to enable them grab opportunities in MNC Drives. SOCIAL SERVICE: 3
4 The Government College [A], Rajahmundry started GCECRT (Government College Extension Centre for Rural Transformation) with a purpose to extend all kinds of support to the people of neighboring rural and economically and culturally backward localities. WOMEN DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL was constituted on under the chairmanship of Dr.G.S.Moses, Principal, Govt. College (A), Rajahmundry. All teaching and non teaching women staff constitutes the members of the committee. The motto of this council is to help the girl students of the institution and women at large by sensitizing them of their rights and duties. Anti Ragging Committee: The anti ragging Committee was constituted with the Senior Most faculty of the college. The committee maintains discipline in the college to ensure congenial academic atmosphere on the premises. It takes all possible measures to prevent incidents of ragging on the premises. It investigates into the complaints of ragging, finds facts and recommends punishments in case ragging is proved. TECHNOLOGY UPGRADATION: All the Departments of the college have been supplied with Computers. The college has a tie up with the BSNL to supply broadband internet at concessional price to all the departments of the college. The old systems have been upgraded. Proposals are underway to provide the Wifi facility. The reading room has been provided with two systems with a provision for Broad Band 24 hrs. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Social service activities by NSS, NCC, Women Development Council and Red Ribbon Club are conducted periodically. NSS Activities: 4
5 On 5 th June 2012, The NCC and NSS conducted world Environmental Day. It is followed by a rally and a Seminar with 200 students. In this connection a rally was conducted to sensitize the students against environmental pollution. This is followed by a Seminar in which 200 students participated. Dr. Karri Rama Reddy and Dr. G.S. Moses acted as resource persons Anti Drug Abuse Day was organized by NSS. Noted Psychiatrist, Dr. Karri Rama Reddy addressed the students on the evil effects of drug abuse. observed as National blood donation Day by NSS units in which 60 volunteers have been participated. In this connection a blood donation camp was conducted. 107 units blood donated to Sri Sanjeevini blood bank. Observed National Integration Day with a guest lecture by Sri Ch.Satyanarayana on 31 st October th November 2011 observed as Children Day and 87 NSS volunteers participated On 1 st December 2011 conducted a huge rally to create AIDS awareness among the public with 500 NSS and UG, PG students. 9 th December 2011, The NSS volunteers of the College had participated in Zonal level youth festival competitions at Government Junior College, Rajahmundry. 28 th December 2011, the NSS Units of College has organized District level workshop on Career Guidance. AU NSS Program officer was given keynote address and 250 volunteers were participated from entire East Godavari district. NCC Activities (Boys wing): Three NCC cadets had attended National Integration Camp (NIC) at Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh from 17 th November 2011 to 28 November 201 Five NCC cadets were attended in All India Tracking camp at Gujarat from 1 st December 2011 to 16 th December
6 Seventy five NCC cadets attended in Annual Training Programme at Samalkot from 5 th December 2011 to 15 th December NCC Activities (Girls wing): Thirty one girl NCC cadets have participated in Annual Training Camp at Nuzvid from 19 th December 2011 to 28 th December FIELD VISISTS a. Field Visits are conducted by almost all the Departments to areas specific to their area of study. They provided hands on experience to the students. The field visits included industrial places like Sugar Factories, AP Paper Mill, historical places like Draksharama and Amaravathi and Scientific Centres like IASc Bangalore, Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam, Educational Centres like the Central University, Hyderabad. 2. New academic programs initiated (UG and PG): Career Oriented Program is a UGC sponsored program conducted with the collaboration of the Departments of English and Commerce. It is a 3 year program which provides a Certificate at the end of I year, a Diploma at the end of II year and a Degree at the end of Final year. Students are trained in Basic Grammar, and Communication Skills. The Department of English conducts Certificate Course during Summer Vacation for 45 days. Admission is restricted to 30 per batch. Students are trained in Spoken English and English for Competitive Examinations. They are provided with a Certificate on the successful completion of the course. 6
7 Tally Certificate is another Course conducted by the Department of Commerce. It is a 2 months course offered in collaboration with JKC. A certificate is issued on the successful completion of the course. 3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: The Mana TV has been started as a satellite program to provide audio visual supplement by expert lecturers to the students across the state. All the programs of the Mana TV are being viewed by the students according to the schedule. A unique program launched by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education to benefit the students to get through the Competitive Examinations. Students are given instruction in General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning by experienced faculty of the college. Banking Entrance Coaching is launched by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, AP to coach the students aspiring for banking service. The coaching is offered by the senior faculty. Students are trained in General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning by experienced faculty of the college. A weekend English Training Program was sponsored by the Collector of East Godavari. It was meant to benefit the students from the Weaker Sections of East Godavari District to get recruited in the Campus Drives. It is 100 hour training during Week Ends and Holidays. As part of it, 100 students were selected who were fed and trained and supplied study materials free of cost. 4. Inter-disciplinary programs started: 7
8 Inter-disciplinary programs enhance the student ability to acquire additional competencies. They also ensure job opportunities. The following interdisciplinary programs already started are continued this academic year also. The Department of Zoology has included specialization on Fisheries realizing that Aqua Culture is fast rising in the East Godavari District. In the Dept of Microbiology, Interdisciplinary Study Projects with the Dept. of Statistics were undertaken. Two new papers namely Computer Fundamentals Or Computer Skills for all the I year UG students and Office Automation Tools for all the II year students have been introduced. The principal of the college conducted the staff council meeting and addressed various academic and extracurricular activities to be taken up during the academic year. Academically weak students and backlog students of present and past were given intensive remedial coaching in all the subjects as per the UGC 11 th Plan Guidelines. 5. Examination reforms implemented: Reforms in the examinations ensure accuracy, speed and reliability. Number reforms have been undertaken in the Examination Branch. Some of them are as follows: Since the college is affiliated to Andhra University, reforms in Examinations are executed as per the norms and conditions of the university from time to time. 40% Practical Component introduced for 10 marks out of 25 allotted for Internal Assessment. Average of the 2 internal practical tests taken for computation of final practical marks. 8
9 Final year Students having not more than 2 backlogs papers allowed for Instant exams. The Academic year was divided in to TWO Semester. The First, Third and fifth Semesters span from June to October with minimum of 90 instruction days. The Second, fourth and Sixth Semesters span from November to March with a Minimum of 90 instruction days. Semester end exams are conducted in the months of October and March. Unit Tests are being conducted. Assignments are being given to students Pre-final examinations are also conducted. 6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc. A large number of students from various Departments have successfully cleared NET/GATE examinations. Total number of seminars/workshops conducted: The College takes pride in conducting a number of National/state level/local level seminars of which 6 were UGC sponsored 2 were Institutional sponsored and 3 were department sponsored. Celebration of Important Occasions: World Environmental Day was observed by NSS and NCC and Department of Botany. A seminar was organized with Dr. N. Madhavi as resource person participated by 73 students was observed as Sanskrit Day by Dept. of Sanskrit. A guest lecture was organized by Dr. Annapurna and 130 students participated. 26. Rajiv Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated on NSS Foundation Day was celebrated on As a part of it, Elocution Competition was conducted on the Role of NSS in Nation Building and Essay Writing competition was conducted on Role of Students in the Prevention of AIDS The winners were distributed prizes on the same day. Another Mega Rally was conducted celebrating the World Peace Day on and in the meeting that followed the local MLA and the Mayor addressed the students on the importance of peace in the world today and the role of the youth in the restoration of world peace. Celebrated National Blood Donation Day on in which 80 NSS volunteers have donated blood to Government Hospital, Rajahmundry. Certificates have been distributed to the students. 17
18 A seminar has been conducted to the NSS Volunteers on by the Aurabindo Society, Rajahmundry on the Need for Human Values in Education The NSS volunteers have participated in large numbers and won prizes. World Cleanliness Day has been conducted on and as a part of it the NSS volunteers visited the slums and addressed the slum dwellers on the need for cleanliness and how to keep their houses and surroundings neat and clean. The National Foundation for Communal Harmony Firm conducted a meeting followed by a seminar on the eve of Week end Celebrations of the Community Harmony Campaign and Flag Day on NSS volunteers have participated in it on a large scale. II. Rallies Conducted: The NSS volunteers have conducted a rally on to create Awareness on Blood Donation among the people. The Principal and the Chief Medical Officer addressed the students on the need for donating blood and how blood donation is the greatest of all donations as it saves the lives of thousands of people undergoing trauma. A Mega Rally was organized on the eve of World Population Day followed by public meeting in which the students spoke on the evils of unchecked growth of population and the various measures to control the population growth. A huge rally was conducted by the NSS volunteers on celebrating the World Literacy Day. Students were sensitized on the role they should play in promoting literacy in the country. 18
19 Conducted a rally on on World Head Injury Awareness showing placards emphasizing the need for wearing helmets. The rally was followed by a demonstration to the students on the kind of first aid to be given to the victims of head injuries. World AIDS Day Rally was conducted from the college Campus to the Government Hospital and fruits were distributed to the patients. An Elocution competition was conducted on AIDS AWARENESS and the winners have been distributed prizes. The National Voters Day was celebrated by the NSS Volunteers on and in this connection, an Essay Writing and an Elocution Competition were conducted and winners have been distributed the prizes. This is followed by a Manava Haram organized by the staff and students of the college to create awareness among the people. III. Service Activities Free Eye Camp has been conducted by the NSS Volunteers to the students of Government Social Welfare Hostels under the sponsorship of AP Paper Mills. As part of it free eye check camp has been conducted. Students diagnosed with vision problems have been supplied medicines and glasses. NSS Volunteers have conducted a Blood Donation Camp on in the zoology lab of the college in which 48 NSS Volunteers have donated blood. IV. Shramadan From time to time, various periodic activities such as the cleaning of the college campus, removal of weeds from the college grounds, the cleaning of the drinking water tanks, 19
20 and the sweeping of the ground removing the waste papers and the polythene bags and plastics and the campus is white washed and the black boards are painted by the NSS 19. 22 Teacher Assessment by the students is done Semester wise in the form of a questionnaire supplied to the students of all the UG and PG Courses. The committee of senior lecturers under the chairmanship of the principal scrutinizes the questionnaire and takes decisions in the meeting held for that purpose. The resolutions are as follows: Resolved to supply Question Bank for all the UG courses and sending the same to the Question paper setters for designing the question papers. Resolved to write to the Commissioner of Collegiate Education to fill in the Vacant Posts with Regular Lecturers in the place of existing Guest Faculty. 24. Feedback from stakeholders: As in the case of Students, a Questionnaire is supplied containing questions regarding the facilities provided, courses offered, improvements needed in infrastructure and on problems pertaining to discipline and administration. The Feedback is analyzed and appropriate decisions are taken by the Committee appointed for the purpose under the chairmanship of the Principal. The following are some of the resolutions taken: Resolved to extend the provision of JKC Training to interested participants outside the college also. Resolved to appeal to the local philanthropists to donate the furniture and utensils necessary for running the Women s Hostel. Resolved to request the APSRTC authorities both to operate new services and to change the timings of some of the existing rural services to match the college timings. 25. Computerization of Administration and the Process of Admissions and Examination Results, Issue of Certificates; Computerization of college management information system is in progress and the automation o the following modules has been taken up. 1. Student information management 2. Employee information management 3. Accounts and performance 4. Learning and evaluation The Department of computer science and applications trained the administrative staff in computer skills and admission processes, examination results and office accounts are being computerized and the data entry of the above said modules has already been taken up. All the data pertaining to CMIS will be placed on the college Web Site. The office and the Examination section are fully automated. The office is connected with BSNL Broad Band internet facility. Internet facility has been extended to the office E-correspondence preferred at every level. 27. Increase in the Infrastructural Facilities: A new block with 40 spacious rooms with Rs.2 Cr expenditure from the college accumulated funds is under construction. Two new courts with lighting facility to play volley ball and basket ball have been provided in addition to the existing facilities to the college. The college building has been renovated and whitewashed. 23
24 All the science departments have strengthened their labs with latest equipment according to the needs of the curriculum by utilizing the State Government and UGC Budget during The seminar has been renovated by providing it with a permanent stage and AC facilities. 28. Technology up gradation: The Website provides information regarding the history of the college, celebrities among the alumni, infrastructure available, admissions, fee structure, curriculum, examination pattern, faculty and their qualifications, results, scholarships offered, Academic Calendar etc. All the systems in the college have been upgraded Every department of the college has been provided with a computer connected to internet facility. E-Classrooms have been set up in the college Proposals are underway for introduction of Wifi facility in the college. 29. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non- Teaching Staff and Students: 24
25 Computer training is imparted to the teaching and non-teaching staff in a phase wise manner through the Computer Labs of JKC of the college. 22 members of the faculty and 8 members of the Non-Teaching have been trained. 30. Financial Aid to Students: Financial assistance is extended to all weaker sections which constitute nearly 85% of the total strength of the college. Special care is taken to ensure timely and fair distribution of scholarships to all eligible SC, ST, BC, EBC and PH students of the college. Free on line processing of applications is done in the computer division of the college. Immediate attention is given to all complaints regarding non-receipt of scholarships. 31. Activities and Support from the Alumni Association: The Alumni Association maintains close affinity with each other and the college. They help the institution physically and financially and work for the realization of the mission and vision of the college. Sri T. Ram Kumar, alumni of this college donated entrance gate for the Science Block Sri Ch. Veeraju another alumni sponsored the construction of 6 toilets behind the Science Block 25
26 The Philanthropists of the town developed a part of the college ground into basket ball court. 32. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association: The Parent Teacher Association meets periodically and discusses the problems and in collaboration with the Alumni Association and other voluntary organizations it contributes to its might to resolve financial and infrastructural issues or to take them to the notice of government officials or public representatives. 33. Health Services: Pharmacist attends to the First Aid and health counseling for students. The NSS units of the college in association with Sanjivani Blood Bank conducted blood donations camps and collected 107 units of blood. College makes use of the services of local Govt. Doctor for emergency medical problems. Group Insurance was extended to all the students. An amount of Rs. 1,14,251 was paid to the General India Insurance towards premium during Performance in Sports Activities: 26
27 Andhra University Inter collegiate Ball Badminton (Women) selections held at GDC, Mandapeta on 12 th and 13 th November Two girls selected for AU ball Badminton (W) team. In turn AU team participated in All India Inter University Ball Badminton at Mangalore University. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit: The anti ragging Committee was constituted with the Senior Most faculty of the college. Good Practices of the Institution: The institution apart from adopting its own best practices also observes other acclaimed institutions with regard to their facilities and functioning and emulates any example worth practicing. One such is the Complaint Box. All the faculty members of the college deliver lectures using ICT by preparing PPTs in the subject concerned, and the students are also encouraged to present their seminars using PPTs by downloading the relevant information from the internet. The PG students are supplied study materials in soft Copies.
