5 The PSE Consulting Team Peter Jones, Managing Director, has over 40 years business and IT experience, four with a major European retailer (C&A Brenninkmeyer), 17 with a UK clearing bank (National Westminster Bank) and 24 as Managing Director and owner of PSE Consulting. He is from a processing and IT background, has led and managed major development projects and also had extensive operational responsibility for delivering POS solutions, extensive bespoke retail systems and credit card related services. He has particular expertise in regulation, M&A, payments strategy, gateway processing, interbank schemes and retailer systems. He also has an extensive knowledge of acquiring, alternative payments, debit and credit cards, card schemes and interchange. Over the past 21 years, he has been responsible for the management of over 1,500 payments assignments for clients within the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Russia and India. He is well known in the EU s payments business and is a frequent speaker at conferences and writer on topical payments issues. Chris Jones, Director, has over 17 years experience with PSE Consulting and Accenture. He specialises in payments innovation, particularly as it relates to mobile, e-commerce and alternative payments. He also has a particular focus on helping management teams in payments companies develop their business strategies, target operating models and implementing change programmes for mobile, internet and physical world payments. Assignments have included several M&A assessment and due diligence projects, studies and strategy development for prepaid and alternative payments, several mpos and DCC studies as well as strategies for F2F and e-commerce acquiring. Luke Purser, Principal Consultant, is an acquiring specialist with over 26 years in banking, cards and acquiring. Of these, 15 years have been spent in the acquiring business with LloydsTSB, Citigroup Merchant Services and Elavon Financial Services and 6 consulting in acquiring with PSE. His career encompasses eight years as a Manager within LloydsTSB Acquiring Services. At Citigroup he was Senior Business Development Manager for European acquiring operations. At Elavon, he was Head of Card Association Management responsible for relationships with Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Diners, JCB and value added service providers. He has a thorough and detailed knowledge of all aspects of the acquiring business. Assignments have included: national market and multi-country acquiring strategies; acquiring RFP s for major merchants and airlines, interchange optimisation projects for banks, merchants and processors, Cards Regulation impacts and opportunities assessments, M&A reviews/due diligence for processors and alternative payments providers and studies to implement acquiring risk best practice. Bill Bougourd is a Senior project leader and planner with significant experience in the development and planning of major payments systems projects and migrations from a business, technical and operational perspective. He spent 19 years as Head of Payment Systems Retail Banking Systems for RBSG. Projects delivered include the WorldPay/Streamline acquiring platform, the UK s Switch debit scheme, the migration of NatWest s interbank acquirer processing in-house. Also as Head of Electronic Communications he developed a strategy for the Group s internet banking system. Major PSE assignments have included: RFP help and support for a large Nordic bank outsourcing processing; for a Private Equity client a carve out strategy for a new acquiring platform for WorldPay; a platform integration study for two Romanian commercial card payments processing bureaux. As a project manager for Visa CEMEA he supported the deployment and planning of a Russian mobile payments project and for Visa EU, an extended assignment supporting the business analysis and specification of change to Vme. For a large multi-country Italian bank developing a migration plan from two processing centres to one common platform and for a major UK department store, the specification of requirements and supporting an RFP for the selection of an F2F/e-Com gateway payments processor. 5
6 The PSE Consulting Team Michelle Price, Senior Consultant, is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years in professional practice and commerce and ten years with PSE Consulting. During her career Michelle has acquired expertise in contracting, project management, corporate administration and financial systems implementations, as well as extensive experience of financial analysis and modelling. Major PSE assignments have included four published research studies into EU prepaid Card Opportunities and Merchant Service Charges, a debit/credit/atm interchange study for regulatory submission for an EU state, as well as valuations, profitability assessments, and scenario modeling for issuers, acquirers and payment processors in several European markets. She has also developed an acquiring business planning tool/model, carried out a large scale EU acquirer benchmarking study, and conducted several RFP vendor selection exercises for major telco s, merchants, airlines and motorway toll players. Gonçalo Caraslindas, Consultant, has over 15 years payments business experience as a senior marketing and product manager in the cards business, of which three have been with PSE Consulting. He was Product Manager at Unicre (the primary Portuguese acquirer) for eight years with responsibility for key accounts, new product development, ecommerce, business expansion plans, pricing and the development of new card acceptance solutions, including distribution card payment offer for the B2B market. As Payment Marketing Manager at Montepio (Portugal s sixth largest retail bank) he specialised in developing plans for the implementation of mobile payments, as well as contactless cards (Visa paywave), and led the merger of the payments business of Montepio and Finibanco and the start up of Montepio s acquiring business. Major PSE assignments have included a study to build action plans to grow ecommerce in Portugal, a study to help a group of Luxembourg banks develop their plans for payments innovation, an extended assignment to recommend a card product for a new ethical bank account and the subsequent development of a business case for a full current account offer, a research study into Building Society current account processing requirements, and a payments strategy study for an Irish MNO. Nicola Henshaw, Senior Consultant, has over 30 years professional and IT experience and has worked for PSE Consulting for over 20 years. During her working life she has been employed as a programmer, systems analyst, trainer and with PSE as a financial modeler. As a Cambridge Mathematics Graduate she has strong numerate and PC-based financial modeling skills. For PSE she has developed many business case and evaluation models for payments and processing related products and services. These have included a wide range of interchange models for card, and ACH payment instruments; business case models for credit/debit card and current account products; models for merchant physical and virtual world acquisition costing and pricing; models relating to ATM and POS card processing and switching entities; many models to evaluate vendor hardware and software proposals. She has also constructed models to evaluate businesses as part of the M&A bidding process. Chris White, Senior Consultant, has worked for NatWest Bank for 32 years and subsequently 14 years in payments with PSE Consulting. He has a wide experience in research and analysis, product development, project management, planning and credit related roles. Prior to leaving Nat West he was involved in the e-commerce arena where he carried out major research on the e-commerce potential in emerging markets and was involved in the marketing of a chip-based identity card. During his time at PSE he has conducted many consulting and research assignments into the UK and European card market. He has a substantial understanding of the interbank structures, mobile/wallets, e-commerce, card issuing, acquiring and ATM landscapes in each of the 28 EU countries, as well as a through knowledge of banking and payments regulation. 6
7 The PSE Consulting Team Darren Arulvasagam, is a Senior Consultant with over 20 years experience in the banking, payments and ATM business. A significant proportion of his career has been with Santander/Abbey National where he worked extensively as the product Development Manager for the pioneering Cahoot online banking offer. He also performed the role of a Business Development Manager working with major retailers, national supermarkets and petroleum companies, supporting the sale of corporate services including ATM s and payments processing. His final role at Santander was that of Commercial Manager which included supporting branch and ATM contract negotiations. After Santander he became Head of Proposition Development at Your Cash Europe, responsible for new ATM product development, identifying commercial solutions to support bids, JV s./ acquisitions and developing strategic change programmes. Darren is a highly proactive, articulate consultant who has a solid understanding of ATM, payments and retail banking and who develops strong interpersonal relationships with clients. Karl Cantwell is a Senior Consultant and has 23+ years banking experience, 13 in UK and international acquiring. Ten years of his career were with RBSG as an Operational Supervisor in branch payments processing and then 3 years in International Merchant Services advising on scheme rules and local implementations. At Citibank Cash Acceptance (4 years) he provided business and technical support for merchant implementation, scheme certification and on-going enhancements and modifications. For Elavon Merchant Services (3 years) he was responsible for managing card scheme relationships, new network version releases, defining internal requirements, and user co-ordinating the installation of a new host system. For MasterCard he was a Senior Technology Account Manager responsible for technology and the identification of customer requirements. At SIX Pay he was Associate Director for Projects co-ordinating project teams implementing merchants in several European countries including Poland. For PSE he has conducted an assessment of a major Northern European processor s multi country Customer Support units as part of M&A due dilligence, for a UK based acquirer Subject Matter Expert support in developing a new CBA acquiring offer and for a large e-commerce PSP, a review of its back office acquiring processes. Lucy Clarke is the Office Administrator who is responsible for managing PSE Consulting s administration activities and all the processes relating to HR, accounting and company administration. She is also responsible for managing and organising PSE s annual Merchant Acquiring Conference. Maria Machado is PA to PSE S Managing Director and also support Directors and Principal Consultants with their assignment deliverables. She is also responsible for the day to day office administration. 7
