2 Experiences & Expertise Dr. Bradley Carpenter is an assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisville. Dr. Carpenter's primary responsibilities include: (a) leadership education & development within the Ed.S, Ed.D & Ph.D programs; and, (b) fostering strong, supportive research and mentoring relationships with schools and school leaders located within the JCPS and OVEC school districts. During his tenure as a Ph.D. student at The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Carpenter worked with Dr. Michelle D. Young, Executive Director of the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), as a graduate research assistant. While with UCEA, Dr. Carpenter participated in the following projects and initiatives: the Wallace Leveraging Program Change initiative; the Urban Leadership Development Project (ULDP); the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA); and served as a teaching assistant for Dr. Young s Critical Policy Analysis courses. Dr. Carpenter s research focuses on issues pertaining to educational leadership, education policy, education reform, the politics of education, and the potentialities of deliberative and democratic theory for education leaders. Specifically, Dr. Carpenter s work addresses: (a) the politics of school improvement reform policy and the implementation issues that relate to the Title I School Improvement Grant program; (b) the ways in which school building leaders craft and implement policies that shape how parents and communities are able to meaningfully participate in schools; (c) how professors within the field of educational administration facilitate conversations surrounding race, racism and race relations so as to prepare education leaders that are able to realize their potential as practitioners of social justice; and (d) the possibilities that exist for education leaders that are asked to advocate for their children and their school communities at the state level of policymaking.
