Kutscher, M.D. Sunday, October 19, :00 am- 12:15 pm Mercy College 555 Broadway Main Hall- Lecture Hall Dobbs Ferry, NY Course Description: Current concepts of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) extend much further the traditional triad of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. The course will cover the full range of symptoms experienced by people with ADHD and their families- including over reactions, brakeless behaviors, easy frustration, disorganization, and future blindness. Special emphasis will be given to the concepts of executive function and co- morbidities such as learning disorders, autism spectrum disorders, anxieties, OCD, tics, depression, bipolar depression, and sensory integration disorder. Dr. Kutscher empathically summarizes how to identify and differentiate these co- occurring issues. Behavioral therapy at home, organizational and study skills support at home and school, and medication treatments will be discussed.

2 Martin L. Kutscher, M.D., is board certified in Pediatrics and in Neurology, with Special Competency in Child Neurology. He lectures internationally, and is author of five recent books, including Kids in the Syndrome Mix of ADHA, LD, Autism Spectrum, Anxiety, Tourette s, and More: The one stop guide for parents, teachers, and other professionals (second edition); Organizing the Disorganized Child (with Marcella Moran); ADHD: Living without Brakes, and The ADHD BOOK: Living Right Now. A graduate of Columbia University s College of Physicians and Surgeons, he completed his pediatrics at Temple University s St. Christopher Hospital for Children and a pediatric neurology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kutscher was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and of Neurology at the New York Medical College for more than two decades. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Learning Outcomes: Understand the role of executive function and inhibition problems in ADHD. Recognize other co- occurring conditions of the syndrome mix of autistic spectrum, anxiety/ocd spectrum disorders, tics, depression, bipolar depression, and sensory integration disorder. Understand the role of behavioral and educational interventions in the above disorders, including organizational skills, Understand the role of medications in the above disorders. This course is offered for 0.3 ASHA CEUs 3 contact hours will be awarded to fulfill NYS continuing education for physical therapy.
