2 3:00 4:00 pm Session I Big Easy Lounge Section II Helping Adult Learners Finish the Race West Virginia has almost 200,000 adults (25+) who started college but never completed a postsecondary degree or credential. West Virginia cannot meet its workforce and civic needs for a more educated populace unless we encourage more adults to return to college. In this session, we'll look at some of the research on adult learners and the policies and trends that affect their enrollment and completion (e.g., fewer semesters of Pell eligibility). We will discuss some best practices and processes for serving adult learners and some of the resources available for adult learners and for college staff and administrators who work with adult students. Participants will also have the opportunity to share what their campuses are doing to recruit and retain adults. Attendees will learn how to use the site to better suit their students needs in regards to post-secondary opportunities, financial aid resources, and career awareness and development. The session will feature best practices in utilizing the site, which were submitted from educators around the state. Did you know WVDRS has rehabilitation counselors assigned to every high school in WV to assist students with the challenges of transitioning from high school into post-secondary education, vocational training and employment? This session will cover the enhancements to student eligibility functions including the addition of Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility (LEU) percentage to the Institutional (ISIR) process, the display of new Pell Grant LEU warning icons, and the addition of the Unusual History (UEH) indicator to the prescreening and post-screening processes. In addition, this session describes updates to the Transfer Student Monitoring (TSM) and Financial Aid (FAH) reports, modifications to aggregate calculations, updates to Cohort Default Rate (CDR) Loan Record Detail Reports (LRDRs), and modifications to CDR and Repayment Information Web pages. It covers how schools use social media and the steps needed to create a successful social media program on your campus. We will take a closer look at Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, with an eye toward how aid offices can use these forums to connect with and counsel students. Additionally, guidelines are provided for creating campus social media plans.
