1 2014 YEAR IN REVIEW Achievements
2 MISSION We demonstrate God s care by improving the health of people and communities through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. VISION A leading resource for innovative patient-centered health care.
3 MESSAGE FROM the President I m pleased to share this annual report of Hackettstown Regional Medical Center s 2014 accomplishments and statistics. It was a challenging year in many respects, but a rewarding year, as well. We continue to cherish our deep roots in this community and, as always, we remain dedicated to providing state-of-the-art technology, coupled with the compassionate, personal, quality health care that patients have come to expect from Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. Since 2012, we have been in the process of pursuing a transfer of ownership from our current Maryland-based health care system to a New Jersey-based system. The healthcare landscape in our state is rapidly changing and now, more than ever, smaller hospitals like HRMC are finding it progressively more difficult to meet the increasing needs and demands of a diverse population and still remain viable. We look forward to the opportunities and benefits for patients that will come from being part of a New Jersey-based health care system. Amidst the business of the transaction, we continue to strive to offer the most progressive, safe and high quality health care possible. In 2014, we made an even deeper impact in the community in areas such as stroke treatment, joint replacement, wound care and diabetes management programs, just to name a few examples. In addition, we are ahead of the curve in our conversion to Electronic Medical Records and now offer a secure, private Patient Portal, enabling patients to be even more proactive in managing their health. We are fortunate to have an interested and engaged community and region. Many generous donors have contributed to HRMC s success and technological progress via donations to HRMC s Foundation. HRMC began as a hospital built by the community and we still stand strong as a result of that continued pride and commitment. Please read on for more specifics of Hackettstown Regional Medical Center s accomplishments and challenges in Our continued thanks to you and your neighbors for your interest and support of our mission and vision. Jason C. Coe, M.B.A. President 3

The amount to be distributed to HRMC will ultimately be nearly $2 million, the largest single cash gift ever received by the Medical Center. The majority of the funds will come from two Trusts that Vincent Ward had established in 1987, four years prior to his death. In addition, the Medical Center received a significant gift as a result of a separate bequest included in Margaret Ward s Will. The sum of all donations given in 2014 to the HRMC Foundation and Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, was $1,432,911 (including a partial distribution of funds from the Ward Trust). The majority of funds donated were used to purchase a new C-Arm (mobile digital X-ray equipment). Funds were also used to support the Joan Knechel Cancer Center, Therapy Center, Emergency Department, Cardiology, Surgical Services, and Diagnostic Imaging departments at HRMC. 4 The HRMC Foundation appreciates and thanks all of our generous donors for their ongoing support of HRMC!

8 COMMITMENT TO Quality and Patient Safety Quality is more than just a word. Quality is a commitment to our patients. HRMC continues to apply and monitor evidence-based initiatives in pursuit of zero [0] hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). The hospital-wide HAI rate steadily declined and remains low, regardless of variations in patient volume. The culture of maintaining zero HAIs is nurtured through emphasis on: Hand hygiene practices Washing hands before and after every patient Washing hands before putting on gloves and after taking off gloves Using soap and water to wash hands when needed Evidence-based practice with devices and procedures Maintaining and removing (as soon as possible): Urinary catheters Central IV lines Ventilators Proper and aggressive isolation practices Proper use of protective equipment: gowns, gloves, goggles, masks Special cleaning of rooms used for isolation Antimicrobial stewardship Ordering antibiotics only if needed Ordering the correct antibiotics to treat the infection Stopping antibiotics as soon as possible Educating patients about infection prevention HRMC has consistently improved in providing key treatments (core measures), which research shows are best for patients with certain conditions.
