2 Property Crimes especially car break-in s (Larceny from Auto s) continue to impact residents and their property. Not only is the loss of property a result but also the but also the repairs to car doors and windows which at times is more expensive than the items taken. Please do not leave valuables visible in your cars. Larceny from Auto Tips Many of these offenses still to cars that have expensive items left in plain view, and in unlocked cars. Do not leave GPS units, the mounting brackets or power cords visible in your car overnight. Do not leave LAPTOPS, IPODS, CELL PHONES or other expensive items in your car. If you are going to leave them in your car, lock the car and lock them in the trunk. LOCK YOUR CAR!!!! And the most important tip. Watch out for your neighbors!!!!! Call 911 to report any suspicious persons, cars, or activity!!!! Communication is extremely important in today s electronic age and with how busy everyone is. NEXTDOOR.com is an excellent tool the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is using to connect with citizens and neighborhoods. Nextdoor s mission is to use the power of technology to build stronger and safer neighborhoods. What is Nextdoor? Nextdoor is the private social network for you, your neighbors and your community. It's the easiest way for you and your neighbors to talk online and make all of your lives better in the real world. And it's free. Thousands of neighborhoods are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer places to call home. People are using Nextdoor to: Quickly get the word out about a break-in Organize a Neighborhood Watch Group Track down a trustworthy babysitter Find out who does the best paint job in town
3 Ask for help keeping an eye out for a lost dog Find a new home for an outgrown bike Finally call that nice man down the street by his first name Firearm by a Felon Program: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has a program intended to encourage citizens to call a dedicated phone line to forward anonymous information on the identity and whereabouts of a felon in the possession of a firearm. Anonymous callers will be eligible for a $ reward if an arrest is made as a result of their tip. When the you call the tipline, the following questions may be asked: Where is the felon currently located? What is the felon s name and how does the caller know they are a felon? What is the physical and clothing description What type of weapon is the felon in possession? Description and location of weapon (704) For more information about your chance to receive a cash reward for reporting a known felon that is in possession of a firearm, visit and click on the Firearm by Felon icon. Crime Stoppers: Another way to get involved in preventing crime is through the Crime Stoppers Program. Do you have information about a crime? If so, you can submit your information anonymously by calling, ing or SMS texting. You could get cash reward up to $1,000! Although the police solve many crimes in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, they can't solve all of them without your help! We'll Protect Your Identity You don't have to worry about your name being revealed in the case. We never tell anyone the person's name who tipped us off. Not the judge. Not the jury. Nobody! What Kinds of Crimes? We want to know about burglaries, robberies, drug deals, vandalism, violent acts and threats of violence; any crime of a serious nature. And if you know of a crime that is about to be committed, we
4 want to hear about that, too. Call in your Tip! You can help make our city and county a better place to live, and make some money at the same time. So make the call to our hotline at The Charlotte City Council has enacted a Curfew Ordinance. The goal of the Curfew Ordinance is to help protect young people in our community. Youth ages 15 years old and under and their parents need to know the Ordinance so that they will not be in violation of the law. Curfew Hours: Ages 12 and under: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. seven days per week Ages 13-15: 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. seven days per week Youth are not in violation of the ordinance if they are accompanied by a parent / guardian or a responsible adult age 21 or over that has the parent s permission to accompany the youth.
