Graduating Student Employment Survey Report Graduates Graduates In the semester, over 600 students graduated with a degree in Business Administration. We surveyed 531 these students utilizing an online web based survey. We asked specific questions regarding their experience in the College of Business Administration, plans for after graduation, employment status, graduate school plans and internship experiences. Of those surveyed, we received a 35% response rate. Highlights from the survey tell us that: More than half graduated with concentrations in Finance, Accountancy and Marketing. Nearly 70% of our students are transfer students. The majority of our graduates believe their business degree prepared them for a professional job in the business community upon graduation. More than half of our students graduated with a GPA above 3.0, but the majority are not involved in student organizations. 96% indicate a very high satisfaction level with the CBA and 92% report very high satisfaction with their chosen concentration(s) within the business major. 89% report having 1 or more job offers within one year of graduation with over half receiving multiple [2 9 offers] The majority of our graduates who begin career level employment within a year of graduating have a starting salary between $30k and $50k and about 1/3 also earn commissions and/or bonuses. 90% stay in California to work and of those, 58% stay in Sacramento. Over 60% indicate plans to attend graduate school and of those 85% would consider Sac State CBA for graduate school. Over 70% report that they did not complete an internship prior to graduation. The following pages provide a full summary of the survey responses.

Status at Time of Enrollment First time Freshman 31% 2nd Bachelors 0% Transfer Student 69% This chart illustrates the enrollment status of Business Students. The majority of students in the College of Business Administration are transfer students.

8 Would you recommend the CBA to a prospective student? Overall Satisfaction with the CBA 4% Yes No 96% Of the 4% who stated they would not recommend the CBA to a prospective student, their comments are listed on the next page.

Comments from the 4% who said they would not recommend the CBA to a prospective student During school, I felt unchallenged and just drifted through all of my classes. I learned new skills with each class, but it wasn't until my job search that I realized that I did not acquire the necessary skills needed to obtain a job in the investment industry. I don't believe CBA is the best for working students. In my experience, the instructors/ professors and staff at CBA and Sac State did not even attempt to work with my schedule. There are better university alternatives for non traditional students seeking to return to college. If the prospective student did not have a full time job, I would tell them the CBA would provide a satisfactory education. If they just wanted a cookie cutter degree that was easy to get, I would recommend the CBA program. It seems that often no one cares to help a business student until their junior year. I feel that there should be mandatory counseling sessions for all business students once per semester to answer their questions and point them in the right path. The current appointment routine is ineffective and does not allow everyone to schedule an appointment when they need to. Possibly an online system would be best. It seems that once you start looking for a job, having a degree in business is not very helpful at all. I would recommend a more specialized field of study. Required classes do not teach practical application. Too many students enrolled and not enough time dedicated each one. Your program is not well structured compared to other top rated schools.

10 Would you recommend your concentration to a prospective student? Satisfaction if i with ihchosen concentration(s) No 8% Yes 92% Of the 9% who stated they would not recommend their concentration to a prospective student, their comments are listed on the next page.

Comments from the 8% who said they would not recommend their concentration to a prospective student All the good classes are impacted so you're left with taking courses that are boring and irrelevant just to get out. As a night student I did not feel that I had the same caliber of instructors as the day students. My instructors seemed more interested in receiving high evaluation scores rather than teaching. I watched dozens of students pass classes just based on extra credit. As I am looking for work I am finding that there is more opportunities for people with a more focused education. I feel I should and had a minor as well in another area, so my choices would not be so limited. Because after graduation employers are not impressed with a marketing degree even though you have taken advanced business courses to attain that degree they want something more professional like finance or accounting. Because it is very hard to find a job after you graduate. I learned many useful skills to manage my own finances, but I did not learn any practical skills for the financial/investment industry such as: financial modeling, valuation, in depth financial statement analysis, in dept research techniques and/or tools. I think if I was going to be a business major again I would have chosen finance or accounting. Finance and accounting lend themselves to more opportunities after graduation. I like my concentration but it was very broad. I would advise a prospective student if they wanted to seek employment in the Sacramento area, Accounting would be a better concentration of business. Positions that desire a Finance concentration are in short supply in the Sacramento area. I would recommend a more practical and useful concentration first such as accounting, finance, MIS. However I would recommend Marketing as the next best thing, far above Gen Management, Int'l Business, etc. Marketing, as far as I can tell, only gets you in the door for mostly sales positions. If a student wanted to go into marketing but didn't want to do sales to start with, I would recommend they either do an additional concentration or change majors. The current job market in Sacramento for entry level Marketing majors is so saturated in my experiences. Some teachers did not teach me well. Students need to know what want or dream so that they can follow the appropriate steps The name of the concentration is to broad and it does not give the employer any direction on my preparation. It is almost like stating the you studied liberal arts. Unless you work in sales after graduation there are not many jobs available right now.

12 Involvement Were you involved in any student organizations on campus while you were a student? Yes 39% No 61% More than half of business students did not participate in Student Organizations.

13 What are your plans for your immediate future? [within the first year after graduation] 18% Plans for After Graduation 1% 1% 1%1% 3% 2% 49% 24% Other plans included: Entrepreneurship Fully employed and attending UCLA EMBA program. I am currently employed full time but I am in search of a better job that will lead me to a career Learn another concentration Open a business Seek a part time time so I can build my business Continue or begin full time career employment I am currently emplyed full time and I also plan to attend graduate school Seek full time employment [Look for full time job] Other Continue or begin graduate school education Apply for/seek out graduate school Seek part time employment [look for part time job] Self employed Skipped Question Nearly half of the graduates planned to continue or begin full time employment. Otherwise, it would have been the same job that I had while at Sac State.
