4 Liminka Bay is one of Finland s finest wetlands. THE LIMINKA BAY WETLANDS Valuable on a European scale, the Liminka Bay wetlands offer a compelling experience for the entire family. The number of bird species at Liminka Bay is particularly remarkable. In all, two hundred species of bird can be encountered in the area. The wetlands are at their busiest during the spring and autumn migrations, and the area s bird towers offer great opportunities for observing birds in their natural habitat. From the tower, you can admire eagles, swans, geese, and many types of shore bird and duck. Black-tailed godwit One of Liminka Bay s rarest attractions is the black-tailed godwit. This very rare species can be encountered regularly in Finland only in the Liminka Bay environment. Whooper Swan Borrow binoculars and you can spot birds in the Virkkula bird tower, only six hundred metres from the Liminka Bay Visitor Centre. A path accessible to wheel chairs and small children leads to the tower, making it a favourite among families. Ruff In Liminka Bay you can see white-tailed eagles soaring above the sea. The Liminka Bay wetland area was born as a result of uplift in the local land. By following an uplift trail, which starts at the visitor centre and is around seven kilometres in length, you can investigate the rising of the sea bed in the area.
