10 ENDNOTES 1 The credit rate for a particular school or average Tuition Level is subject to change in the event that the school, or a school included in the average, changes its tuition rate for academic year Some of the credit rates reflect the assessment of a premium designed to maintain the fiscal integrity of the Guaranteed Savings Plan (see endnote 3). 2 Community Colleges (except Lehigh-Carbon, Luzerne, and Pennsylvania Highlands) and the PA College of Technology charge only by the academic credit, not by the semester. Therefore, semester rates are not listed. Typically, a full-time student at these schools takes 15 credits per semester. For other Tuition Levels, the GSP Semester Rate is 12 GSP Credits. 3 The following credit rates include premiums: State-Related University Average (6%), Pennsylvania State University-all Tuition Levels (6%), and University of Pittsburgh-all Tuition Levels (6%). 4 In calculating the State-Related University Average, all State-Related University Tuition Levels that were used in calculating the average for academic year were used; any Tuition Levels that were added in academic year or after were not included. 5 In order to be eligible for this credit rate, certain conditions apply. Please contact the school for more information. 6 The rates for this Tuition Level are based on the average of Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior tuition charges for all programs of study except those for which separate Tuition Levels are specified. Starting in academic year , for beneficiaries at this Tuition Level, all payments from the GSP at this Tuition Level will be made at the Average Actual Tuition of the class levels used in calculating the rates (Average) regardless of the academic status of the beneficiary. For academic years until , payment will be made at the Average tuition rate or the Actual Tuition set by the school for the class level which the beneficiary has attained (Actual) as indicated in the following chart: Payment rate in Academic year Beneficiaries who are Freshmen in Beneficiaries who are Sophomores in Beneficiaries who are Juniors in Average Average Actual Actual Average Actual Actual Average Actual Average Beneficiaries who are Seniors in For all academic years, for beneficiaries at this Tuition Level who attend a private or out-of-state school, payment from the GSP will be made at the Average Actual Tuition rate. 7 For all campuses, Category 1 programs of study include the Smeal College of Business. Additionally, the following programs of study at the indicated campuses are included: The Department of Business at Altoona, Berks, and Other Campuses (including Abington); the School of Business at Erie; and Business Administration at Harrisburg and Schuylkill. For information on the specific majors in this category, contact Pennsylvania State University. 8 For all campuses, Category 2 programs of study include the College of Engineering, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, the Eberly College of Science, and the School of Information Sciences and Technology. Additionally, for the following campuses, the indicated programs of study are included: at Other Campuses, the Department of Science; at Mont Alto, the Occupational Therapy program; at Erie, the School of Science, the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology; at Harrisburg, Science/Engineering; and at Schuylkill, Science/Engineering. For information on the specific majors in this category, contact Pennsylvania State University. 9 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2003, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 10 For all campuses, Category 3 programs of study include the Bachelor of Science in Science program. 11 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2004, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. PAGE 10 Pennsylvania 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan Credit Rate Schedule
11 ENDNOTES (continued) 12 For all campuses, Category 4 programs of study include the Bachelor of Science in Business program. 13 Includes the following locations: Beaver, Delaware County, DuBois, Fayette, Hazleton, Greater Allegheny (formerly McKeesport), Mont Alto, New Kensington, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre, Worthington-Scranton, and York. Included in prior GSP Tuition Rate Schedules as Other Branches or Commonwealth Campus. 14 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2007, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 15 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2008, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 16 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2005, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 17 Lehigh-Carbon Community College instituted a new tuition rate structure in academic year Luzerne County Community College and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College instituted a new tuition rate structure in academic year Students taking between credits per semester are charged a flat rate. Unlike semester rates for most schools, which are based on 12 credits (see endnote 2 above), Lehigh-Carbon and Luzerne County have made their semester rates the cost of 15 credits at the per-credit cost and Pennsylvania Highlands has made its semester rate the cost of approximately 15 credits at the per-credit cost. Accordingly, the GSP Credit Semester Rate is equal to the cost of 15 GSP Credits. This means that the equivalent of 15 GSP Credits are needed for a beneficiary who takes between 12 and 18 academic credits using a GSP account at Lehigh-Carbon Community College, Luzerne County Community College or Pennsylvania Highlands Community College. 18 This Tuition Level was added effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2011, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 19 This is a new Tuition Level effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2012, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this Tuition Level. 20 This is a new Tuition Level effective September 1, For contributions made before September 1, 2013, retroactive conversion to this new Tuition Level is available only for beneficiaries actually enrolled in the academic program associated with this new Tuition Level. This Tuition Level pertains to the Standard Tuition Level at Shenango Campus.
