14 New Research and Extension Activities Planned by Dr. School Health Survey School Health Survey is proposed to assess the physical fitness of the school children. During the survey the following fitness components will be measured; Flexibility, blood pressure, body composition, upper body strength and cardio vascular fitness. Finally it will be compared with the original physical fitness standards. Based on the survey a comprehensive health related physical fitness programme will be developed. College Health Survey The achievements of the college students and their physical fitness will be assessed through the health survey. After the survey a training programme will be recommended to monitor the fitness status. Public Health Survey According to WHO there were 26% of world population are affected by chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiac problem, etc., due to physical inactivity. Therefore, it is proposed to conduct a Health survey to find out the exercise hobbies of common public of Tirunelveli region. Suitable remedial measures will be implemented to promote the health status of the common public after the survey. Physical Fitness Norms After the health survey, a physical fitness norm on selected physical components like flexibility, body composition, endurance, strength, speed etc., will be formulated and the same will be sent to the government with recommendations of implementing the norms for the promotion of fitness status of school children, college students etc. It will also help the students and public to understand their physical fitness status and maintain good health. Sports Rehabilitation Programme Asian countries are giving more attention to the Physical Education and Sports needs of students with disabilities in schools and colleges. It is quite common that injuries will occur during the sports training and competitions. There is a need of rehabilitation centre to take care of injured sports person and make them fit to resume the sports events again. Therefore, the physical education department may be supported with rehabilitation centre with necessary equipments. Adventure Sports Adventure is laughter, adventure is play and adventure is fun for people. Higher achievement is associated with higher levels of fitness. Adventure sports will promote the qualities of fitness, confident, self-efficacy, group experiences and challenging tasks. Hence, it has been proposed to provide opportunities to the students to develop fitness and recreation through adventure sports activities. Movement Language A movement language for the children will be identified and introduced for the pre-school children to strengthening the cognitive aspects of learning.
