8 Custom lighting What is custom lighting? Custom lighting is lighting solutions that, as opposed to standard lighting, are not mass-produced. Custom lighting solutions are made to match every wish and need that the customer might have. There are many reasons for choosing custom lighting. However, most of them fall into two categories: 1. the need and wish for specific features 2. the need and wish for a specific design and look How is custom lighting made? Usually, architects or designers mail their draft with a specific need or wish to OKHOLM LIGHTING. In other cases, OKHOLM LIGHTING produce the draft based on knowledge acquired from photos, drawings and the like. Basically, the sky is the limit. We produce lighting solutions that meet the customers needs and wishes in relation to size, shape, material, surface, colour, light distribution, number of light sources and much more. 10 ARMILLA chandelier OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S and architect Erik Lassen have made the ARMILLA chandelier in collaboration. The ARMILLA chandelier has the shape of a light globe. It has 36 light sources in total. The well thought out construction ensures that the interaction of the light sources is optimum. This means that the functionality and the light are perfect. ARMILLA is much more than a simple light source. It is very aesthetic and the design is amazing. The stylish design and the high elegance of ARMILLA mean that ARMILLA looks decorative in every room. Architect Erik Lassen has been inspired by the Armillasphere in the development of the globe. The result speaks for itself. Material and finish: Polished and lacquered brass. 12 Church of Sundby Church of Sundby The church of Sundby was build in 1870 after drawings by architect and professor Hans J. Holm. Up until the mid-1960's the interior was marked by the original heavy and sombre new Gothic. Lighting, colours, and surfaces then changed to the typical style of the 60's with ceiling pendants made in acryl, beech parquet, and blue shades. The new lighting of the church, the light arcs, which are first stage of a perential complete restauration, are meant to accentuate the fine symmetric geometry of the church rooms. The light spreads from a "vault of heaven" of tiny lighting points and lets the high, overarched church room and the beautiful panes shine. The architect company CUBUS has designed and OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S has produced the customized lighting for this unique lighting project. 33 light arcs with 830 pieces of 10 W halogen bulbs in total give the church room a unique decoration and an effective lighting system. 14 Abbey church of Lippoldsberg Abbey church of Lippoldsberg Great interaction between discreet lighting and Roman architecture. The abbey church in Lippoldsberg in Niedersachsen in Germany is one of the most important ecclesiastical buildings from the Late Middle Ages, thanks to the consistent used Roman style and the fantastic preservation work. That much the greater was the challenge for the architect company Prof. Schürmann & Partner from Köln in regards to design and development of a suitable lighting for the abbey church. The simplicity of the lighting adapts to the Roman construction style, and ensures that the interaction between abstract shape and tradition is perfect. 16 Aabenraa chapel Aabenraa chapel The original chapel building was build in a mix of danish brick tradition and modernism in the 1930th. The classic style is also used in connection with the extensions. This has played an inportant role in connection with the choice of lighting for the chapel. Architect Jørgen Toft Jessen says:?i have attached great importance to underline and emphasize the modernism in the rooms in connection with the now finish restoration of the chapel. This has had a great impact on my choice of materials e.g. white walls, Jura Blaugrau limestones on the floor and the simple Churchill-chair.?. He goes on:?there was no doubt that the two simple uplight types from Okholm Lighting, developed in collaboration with the drawing office, along with the three chandeliers, were the perfect lighting in this connection.". Jørgen Toft Jensen has made a lighting solution, which underlines and emphasizes the character of the room and which is in itself beautiful and modern. Jørgen Toft Jessen has used 3 JTJ chandeliers, 12 JTJ uplight maxi and 12 JTJ uplight mini for the project. 18 Church of Ansgar Church of Ansgar The church of Ansgar has undergone a complete restoration. At the head of the project were the Architects of NOVO 5. OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S has made the lighting for the project with SCAN pendants. Also, OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S has produced the pulpit, the altar cross, the font, and candlesticks in stainless brushed steel. 20 Graukloster in Schleswig Graukloster in Schleswig A successful danish/german collaboration between architect Jørgen W. Overby and dip.eng. Martin Jannsen ends with a unique lighting solution for the Graukloster (a convent) in Schleswig in Germany. The lighting solution perfectly fits the historic style of the convent. The danish architect Jørgen W. Overby was architect on the restoration of the Graukloster in the years 1982 to 84. Two decades later Overby was again contacted. This time in connection with the repair of the convert due to a deliberately started fire. Architect Overby used this opportunity to change some of the previously choosen solutions. Architect Overby chose lamps from the GREN family for the lighting solution. He says: The GREN pendants and wall lamps have a very beautiful design, which in material and shape have a historic inspiration. The arm of the Gren wall lamp acts as a new interpretation of the torch. Also, the pendants fit the historic style of the converts. The detail with the torch and the interaction between the choosen lighting solution and the other solutions of the converts make the project unique. Architect: Jørgen W. 22 Church of Gullestrup Church of Gullestrup The church of Gullestrup was build in The architect group Regnbuen was in charge of the building process. The goal was to draw a top quality building, which was simple. The chandeliers, also designed by the Architect Group Regnbuen, are composed of rectangular pipe constructions. 12 SCAN pendants are suspended from each chandelier. 24 Holbæk crematorium Holbæk crematorium The lighting for Holbæk crematorium is designed by Rønnow Architects. The circular lighting consists of two rings, on which 32 fixtures have been mounted. Each fixture has two candle bulbs. The light can be switched on separately either upwards, downwards or both at the same time. Technical specifications: Material and finish: Matt lacquered brass. 26 Hvedstrup churchyard Hvedstrup churchyard Path lighting system for Hvedstrup churchyard The path lighting system is worked out after wishes for a discret system with a good light, which were set by the parochial church council, and also with great importance attached to the lamps being robust and having a low energy consumption. OBUS T1 was chosen after experimental set-up. The fixtures are placed along the path from the main entrance of the church to the parking space of the rectory. The south wall of the church and the choir/apsis were slightly lighted up as a side effect of the path lighting. Technical specifications: Fixture: OBUS T1 - anthracite (RAL 7916). 28 Church of Islebjerg Church of Islebjerg The chorus lighting for the recently build church of Islebjerg (Frederikssund) is designed by Sahl Architects in Aarhus. The lighting is very discreet, and underlines the interaction between the artistically carried out altar area and the pulpit. Technical specifications: Material and finish: Polished and matt brass. 30 Church of Løget Church of Løget The church of Løget is a new church, which is build in connection to the existing parish community centre of Løget. The room height is about 12 metres. The aisle between the chair stalls is asymmetric meaning that all chair stalls have different lengths. We at OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S have therefore choosen to suspend the SCAN pendants at an even spead in a horizontal level in the nave and the choir. 34 Church of Sønderbro Church of Sønderbro The build church of Sønderbro lie in Horsens, in Jytland's center. The architect Paul Nieport wished itself a church building like a Monument in the core of the city. It is one of the most interesting buildings of its time with the natural brought in daylight in the church room and the pertinent church municipality part. The church lighting is an integrated part and has therefore a special importance. With the goal to create an illumination, which works as a pendulum and a ceiling mounted light, the architect Mogens Svenning created in co-operation a completely new light system. 37 The Sankt Birgitta convert The Sankt Birgitta convert The Sankt Birgitta convert church is formed as a church room with the altar placed in the mittle and with the congregation in one end of the room and the sisters in the other. The greatest challege for architect Finn Zeuthen, when he was to find the right lighting for the convert church, was to find a suitable solution in regard to the architectural look, the function of the room and the spiritual dimension. The architect handled the challenges with fixtures from the SCAN family from Okholm Lighting, which meet the criterias. The lighting in the church room centres around the altar with the central suspended SCAN chandelier. The matching SCAN bar fixtures, which are suspended in both sides of the room above the congregation's and the sister's church benches respectively are made in the same style and material as the chandelier. This gives the convert church a coherent and nice architectural look, which speaks for itself. Even architect Finn Zeuthen was impressed by the end result: "It may sound strange, but the end result far surpassed my expectations." 39 Church of St. Ansgar in Schleswig Church of St. Ansgar in Schleswig Unique lighting solution for the church of St. Ansgar in Schleswig Architect Lambrecht from Lambrecht Architects lead the renovation and rebuilding of the church of St. Ansgar in Schleswig. A complete lighting concept from Okholm Lighting with SCAN chandeliers and DYBBØL fixtures was chosen. All fixtures were grey enamelled to make them less dominant. The SCAN chandeliers fit well with the geometric shapes, "curves" and "rectangles", in St. Ansgar church. A chandelier is suspended from each nave arcade. The chandeliers' round shapes and the archades' architectural form are a perfect match and a unified whole. This solution lights up the aisle as well as the nave. The lighting level can be adjusted with the light dimming feature. Thereby, different atmospheres can be created. A large SCAN chandelier has been suspended in the center of the choir. DYBBØL fixtures were chosen in the organ loft area. DYBBØL wall fixtures and ceiling luminaires were chosen for the confessional in the sacristy and for the staircase leading to the organ loft. 41 Church of Vestmanna Church of Vestmanna In 2005 as the church of Vestmanna needed major repairs, it was thought best to rebuild the entire church. J. P. Gregoriussen was Architect on the project, while OKHOLM LIGHTING produced the lighting. A large number of SCAN pendants have been suspended in the nave, which builds a "shining ceiling" that fits in perfect with the other solutions of the church. Architect: Architect J. P. 47 Church of Ødis Church of Ødis The church of Ødis has been restored, and in that connection it has got both new lighting and has had some of the existing lamps restored. O. Reinhard Hansen was Architect on the project, while OKHOLM LIGHTING A/S produced the lighting. 16 SCAN pendants E27 are suspended in the porch. They are suspended in the same pattern as the ADSBØL chandelier in the choir room. Also, a communion table, altar candlesticks and a great number of custom designed SCAN wall lamps have been mounted in the choir. Five SCAN pendants E27 are suspended on the organ lofts. The existing chandeliers and wall lamps in the nave have been restored. The lighting solution is beautiful and modern, and is, just like the other solutions of the church, based on new thinking rather than traditional conservatism. The result speaks for itself. 53 Sorø Academy Sorø Academy Sorø Academy was created by the King Frederic II in 1586 as a boarding school for the Danish aristocracy. Today the Academy is a public secondary school. As the outdoors areas between the buildings were very dark during the winter time, Sorø Academy needed more lighting fixtures. Instead of choosing standard lamps as a supplement of the existing fixtures, the Academy chose a completely new solution. Based on the existing fixtures designed by Karsten Rønnows Architects, the architect Erik Møller drew two new wall lamps. They were mounted in the main buildings corners, and on the church buildings façade. The extra wall lamps have had a double effect. The church was selected due to the building structure, which is deeply anchored in the Danish culture landscape. The desire was to design a music stand which expresses the level of quality of the fine instruments on which the orchestra's musicians play. The two versions with light are designed with regard to the different demands that can be found in an orchestra. The result is a beautiful and an extremely functional and well thought out design.
