5 Special Online Courses for 2016! Audience: Professionals who design or deliver online/blended learning courses Foundations of Online Teaching This course promotes awareness of online teaching skills, techniques, and curriculum design. It introduces the major design parameters that make online courses different. It also reflects the communicative nature of the online environment and is based on asynchronous discussion and collaboration Teaching Real-Time Speaking Online Although language teachers understand that the most significant skill for many learners may be speaking, a distinct challenge in teaching ESL/EFL online is working with speaking and real-time communication. This course addresses current capabilities in real-time voice communication over the Internet. Teaching Listening Online This course begins by examining basic issues with background readings and discussions. We investigate how to teach listening online and how to find free listening resources on the Internet. Then, in the hands-on segment, you will experiment with several tech tools and customize them so that they address your own needs or interests. Teaching Reading and Writing Online Participants get hands-on practice with online tools, techniques, best practices, and strategies for teaching reading and writing online and use them to develop individual and collaborative projects that are geared toward their student population and teaching environment. Teaching Vocabulary and Grammar Online This four-week course gives you an overview of how you can enrich blended or online teaching of vocabulary and grammar by using selected tools and resources. You will also create online learning materials for students at different levels. Blended Learning with an Interactive Classroom Participants explore mostly free online Internet tools for use with any level of ESL. Many of the tools can enhance traditional face-to-face or online classes. Tools covered include online game makers, survey makers, word game makers, and online Web publishing. At the end of the class, an online class is developed using at least one of the tools. NEW! TESOL Self-Study Courses Launching in 2016, TESOL will be offering on-demand courses allowing participants to engage in professional development based on their schedule. Participants can register at any time and those who complete these courses will receive a TESOL certificate of completion. Fundamentals of TESOL Audience: Prospective ELT educators who have little to no formal ELT training Gain general theoretical and practical knowledge of language, language learning, teaching methodology, and classroom practice. Teaching and Assessing Adult Learners Audience: New or prospective ELT professionals teaching adult learners Learn appropriate methods and techniques for teaching language skills, vocabulary, and grammar to adult learners; understand assessment approaches and tools when evaluating students learning and proficiency. Teaching and Assessing Young Learners Audience: New or prospective ELT professionals teaching young learners Learn appropriate methods and techniques for teaching language skills, vocabulary, and grammar to school-age learners; understand assessment approaches and tools when evaluating students learning and proficiency.
