4 Page 4 of 9 I. Scope This policy sets forth the procedures for controlling the inspection, testing and maintenance of water based fire suppression systems at Kodak Versamark, Inc. This policy is to insure that all water based fire suppression systems are maintained to provide a working fire suppression system at all times. II. References The regulatory requirements for the inspection and maintenance of water based fire suppression systems are specified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). These requirements are found in NFPA-25 titled Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. III. Applicability This policy applies to all water based fire suppression systems both wet and dry systems located within all buildings located in Dayton, Ohio and operated by Kodak Versamark, Inc. IV. Operating Policy A. Inspection 1. Inspection of water based fire protection systems is accomplished by inspection of the system at four intervals, yearly, quarterly, monthly and weekly. The outcome of each inspection is tracked in a spread sheet and by hard copy check-off sheets. Weekly Inspection: Inspection of all valves, chains, locks on each sprinkler riser and the inspection of all pilot and warning lights for the fire pump control. (Appendix A) Monthly Inspection: Inspection of all valves, chains, locks on each sprinkler riser for proper position (open / closed). Inspection of all sprinkler riser gauges. (Appendix B) Quarterly Inspection: Inspection for proper location of hydraulic plates and stickers on each sprinkler riser and inspect for physical damage to alarm devises. (Appendix C) Yearly Inspection: Inspection of all valves, chains, locks on each sprinkler riser for proper position (open / closed). Inspect all fire hose connections for objects in the connections and their accessibility. Check the spare sprinkler head storage boxes for proper number of each type of spare sprinkler heads. Inspect fire department connection for objects in the connections and check for accessibility for the local fire department. (Appendix D) B. Testing 2. Testing of water based fire protection systems is accomplished by testing of the system at four intervals, yearly, quarterly, monthly and weekly. The outcome of each test is tracked in a spread sheet and by hard copy check-off sheets. Weekly Testing: Testing the electric fire pump is accomplished by running fire pump at churn for 10 minutes. The fire pump is started automatically by dropping the pressure on the control sensor. The start, suction and discharge pressures are monitored and recorded. (Appendix A)
5 V. Responsibilities Page 5 of 9 Monthly Testing: Testing of the six riser flow switches to check for reporting to the Simplex Fire Alarm System. This is accomplished by opening each riser s fire department test / drain and checking for activation of the fire alarm panel. (Appendix B) Quarterly Testing: Testing of the six riser flow and tamper switches to check for reporting to the Simplex Fire Alarm System. Testing of the riser flow switches are accomplished the same way as the monthly testing. The riser tamper switches are tested by turning each riser control valve until they report a trouble to the fire alarm system. A main drain test is performed on each riser to check the static return time. Each riser s static return time is recorded. (Appendix C) Yearly Testing: The yearly water based fire suppression system is tested by a certified fire suppression system testing company. The tests are done in accordance with NFPA-25 and are documented by the testing company. A copy of the results is kept on file with the records for the system. (Appendix D) A. Health, Safety & Environmental 1. Interpret local, state and federal codes on installation, modification, maintenance and testing of water based fire suppression systems. 2. Oversee all installation, modification, maintenance and testing by contractors or in-house maintenance staff. 3. Maintain records for installation, modification, maintenance and testing of all water based fire suppression systems. 4. Communicate any work on the suppression system to upper management that could cause a potential hazardous work environment to the employees. 5. Oversee that all permits are acquired by the contractors that are required by local building officials. 6. Fill out all Hot Work permits as required by Kodak Versamark, Inc. processes and procedures. B. Building Maintenance 1. Assist outside contractors with any services required to make the installation, maintenance, modification or testing of the suppression system safe for Kodak Versamark, Inc. and contractor employees. 2. Assist with communications to the contractors on the requirements of drawings, bill of materials and cost of any installation, maintenance, modification or testing of the suppression system. 3. Assist with overseeing all installation, modification, maintenance and testing by contractors or in-house maintenance staff. 4. Inspection of all materials used in the installation, modification, maintenance and testing of the suppression system. 5. Inspection of the final installation, modification, maintenance and testing of the suppression system.
