I. Just Imagine *Imagine addresses the need in Categories 2, 3 & 4 What is Imagine? Imagine is the global collaboration tool for tomorrow s world connecting people, and their ideas together within a single harmonious and synchronous 3D virtual environment. This innovative and technologically advanced tool replaces the need to be in the same room with the people you are connecting with, or even within the same continent! With Imagine, the world becomes much smaller. Everyone you know, everyone you work with or need to reach out to, is now within arms reach. Imagine conducting a job interview with a potential employee thousands of miles away in a virtual job fair, or presenting your next engineering design to a group of corporate executives within a virtual boardroom where everyone can see and hear each other. Imagine designing the next state-of-the-art spacecraft in a 3D collaborative virtual environment. With Imagine, all of these things are possible, and much more. Imagine is an enjoyable and highly engaging way to meet with others users online for the purposes of collaboration, interaction and communication. Available to a large number of participants Imagine will save you time, travel expenses, worry and stress, while making you much more productive. With Imagine there are no limitations, so go on.just imagine! Imagine is the global collaboration tool for today s world Available to a large number of participants Technologically sound Intuitive and easy to use graphical user interfaces Highly engaging an effective and innovative communication medium Imagine is changing the way we do business right now! Imagine is cost effective Save time, money, energy and resources Imagine is growing rapidly using an extreme programming methodology. An influx of new ideas for future enhancements as well as innovative architecture designs will ensure that Imagine can live up to its true potential. The current release of Imagine has the following core features: Multi-user capability Meeting administration Meeting environment selection and customization Meeting agenda configuration Global chat Peer-to-peer chat Business card sharing User briefcases Virtual board for drawing and collaboration Projection screen - view internet, documents, PDFs, movies, books, etc
Desktop viewing and sharing Real-time webcam streaming Holodeck View 3D models; share 3D models, build 3D models collaboratively Voice conferencing II. Imagine s Features Multi-user capability Imagine s multi-user capability allows for users anywhere in the World with an Internet connection to interact with other online users within a 3D virtual environment. Each user can select there own DigiTAR. A DigiTAR is the 3D representation of the user within the virtual world. Users can see each other s DigiTARs navigating the virtual environment and interacting with other users just like in real life. The only difference is that you can be doing this behind your desk at work or home, forgoing the need to book flights / hotels, pack your luggage and travel to the meeting place. When launching Imagine, the user has the option to join an existing meeting or create one for others to join. A typical virtual boardroom can host upwards of 32 users. For meetings with many more attendees, the Auditorium is available. Meeting Administration The user who creates an Imagine meeting is by default the administrator of that meeting. Having this privilege allows the administrator to determine the flow of the meeting and where it is going. Administrators can control the focus of the meeting and will have to consider such questions as is it time now for us to collaborate on the virtual board? or - 4 -
has the time come to allow a certain user to showcase their 3D design? etc. The administrator also has the capability to restrict meetings to certain users only, and can even remove users from a meeting if the need arises. Meeting Environment Selection and Customization When creating a meeting the administrator can select the virtual environment in which users will collaborate in. Imagine can load a multitude of environments such as: Conference rooms, auditoriums, outside events, etc. Currently the boardroom is available for use. The administrator can select the outside city environment for the boardroom since it contains large windows allowing the city backdrop to be seen. Meeting Agenda Administrators can design the overall structure of the meeting so that the meeting can remain productive and meet the goals and needs of those attending. Productive meetings often follow a certain format and adopt various standard protocols to keep things on track. With Imagine, the structure as well as topics of discussion can be designed beforehand and then saved as a template. This is useful for meetings that occur periodically such as: Monthly staff meetings Weekly leadership team meetings Daily briefings, etc. Topics can be inserted or removed from the agenda, and the length of discussion for each topic can be set. Once all participants have joined the meeting, the administrator can start the timer on the agenda and set everything underway. When the time comes to move on - 5 -
to the next topic of discussion everyone receives a notification to keep the meeting on track. The timer itself may also be paused by the administrator any time desired. Global chat Once inside a meeting, users are able to utilize the global chat system to exchange messages back and forth. The global chat is available to all users and all messages can be read by any user within the room. Peer-to-peer chat The peer-to-peer chat allows two users to conduct a private conversation away from anyone else that may be in the room. Messages exchanged in a private chat are fully secure, and only the two parties engaged in the conversation can read the messages being sent across the network. Business card sharing Imagine can be used as an effective way to promote an organization s products and services. By engaging with other like-minded business people within an Imagine session, various business opportunities can be created. In this way, Imagine can replace many of the costly face-to-face general and exclusive events that business people have engaged in prior to the development of Imagine. Imagine requires a standard and simple user registration. The information provided during the process allows Imagine to design a - 6 -
virtual business card which can be shared with other Imagine users. Imagine requires a user s permission before allowing another user to access their business card. User briefcase Each Imagine user has there own personal private briefcase, which is located online. Images, documents, movies and 3D models can be uploaded into one s briefcase so that these types of media can be shared with other users within an Imagine session. No other user can access another user s private briefcase directly. When a user takes control of the virtual board for example, they can display an image on the board directly from their briefcase
Virtual board for drawing and collaboration The virtual board is analogous to a projector or blackboard found in many classrooms and presentations. Users are able to draw and write onto the virtual board to share information and collaborate. Users can also clean the virtual board, open any page from their desktop, and COPY and SAVE any information posted on the board. Images and schematics can be posted on the virtual board directly from a user s briefcase and can then be marked up by all participants. Marked up content can be copied and saved for later viewing and can also be stored into a briefcase for further use during another Imagine session
Projection screen In the virtual boardroom, the projection screen is located in the middle of the environment for easy viewing by anyone in the room, no matter where they are seated, or where they are standing. The projection screen will always turn to face each individual user, meaning that the orientation of the projection screen is spatially different for each individual user that is logged on to an Imagine session. Each individual user who views the projection screen also has the capability to enhance the projection screen into a fullscreen viewing mode on their display monitor. The projection screen can be used to view a user s desktop, videos, documents / books, PDFs etc
Desktop viewing While the virtual board is active, the user in charge (administrator-approved)) can enable their desktops to be streamed directly onto the board. In this way, all users within the Imagine session can now see any of the user s desktop if desired. This is an effective way for the user to show a PowerPoint presentation, navigate to a webpage, or display word / excel documents etc
Real-time webcam streaming Imagine is able to interface directly with a user s webcam and then stream the incoming information to other user s within the same Imagine session. This is one of Imagine s most innovative features. Work is currently underway to enhance this feature and further incorporate additional security features. During an Imagine session, a user can access another user s webcam stream through the simple click of a button. The DigiTARs head morphs into a video screen allowing the webcam stream to be displayed directly inside of it!
Viewing 3D models and interacting with them Interactive 3D models can be displayed inside of an Imagine session for other user s to visualize and interact with. What better way to present your proof of concept online? Imagine uses 3DInternet s proprietary Hyper-Reality Technology to render 3D objects and models in stunning detail using the advanced real-time rendering pipelines supported by today s graphics cards. Models can be rotated so that they can be viewed at any angle and can even be disassembled so that their inner-parts can be visualized in more detail. Sub-parts can be rearranged and new parts can be imported to create new designs. Holodeck The Holodeck is a collaborative 3D designer / visualization sub-system of Imagine. Users can design virtually anything in 3D! 3D Objects can be imported and then translated and rotated into any desired position. Objects can also be colored and textured. The entire hierarchy of objects can then be exported out to an OBJ file for import into 3D Modeling / CAD Software
Voice conferencing Imagine comes with a full voice conferencing system built-in. Users can control whether or not they want their voices to be heard by the other participants in the virtual environment. Imagine s voice conferencing system uses voice compression technology to reduce the amount of data traveling to and from participants and the server. Users have the option of logging into their accounts and retrieving voice conversations that have occurred within meetings that they have attended. III. Imagine s Future Imagine is the way that business and collaboration will be conducted in the future. The possibilities for Imagine are limitless and the necessary research and development is already taking place to enhance Imagine s capabilities and features even further. 3DInternet s goal is to bring Imagine to the marketplace as soon as possible, so that anyone within any Industry or Organization can begin to reap the benefits that Imagine brings to the table. Imagine s robust and abstracted system architecture allows for it to grow and take on new and exciting behaviors in a multitude of ways, which calls for the need to prioritize certain features and enhancements over others. Some of Imagine s future capabilities will also include: Real-time terrain generation via Geospatial sources: Terrains can be created to host a meeting in real-time using geospatial sources. These sources can be XYZ data on disk, LiDAR data, or large sets of topological data located inside remote databases. Mobile device capability: The iphone will be the first mobile device to run Imagine. A miniature version of Imagine is already in development to take advantage of some of the iphone s exciting features. While an Imagine meeting is in session, iphone users will be able to video capture their surrounding environment and have these stream directly to the projection screen and / or virtual board. Mouse Movement Recognition Technology: An exciting future enhancement to Imagine known as Mouse Movement Recognition will allow mouse movements to be interpreted in real-time when utilizing the Virtual Board. Imagine will attempt to determine the types of objects users are drawing on-screen. For example, a user can draw a circle onto the board using the mouse. Obviously, the circle will not be perfect but Imagine will detect a possible circle and a small context menu will appear with various manipulation options. One of these options will be a circle. The user can then select the circle option if desired turning their circle into a perfect one with the correct radius and location
Additional 3D input devices beyond the everyday mouse, such as hand-gloves and joysticks could also be integrated into Imagine to further enhance 3D manipulation of objects within the Holodeck! Gesture Recognition Technology: Using an available web cam, Imagine will detect user gestures such as hand movements, eye movements and head movements. This information will then be translated into actual DigiTAR articulation within the virtual environment. The DigiTAR will begin to mimic the real movements of the user adding much more life and realism to the overall experience. These are just a few of the ways in which Imagine s feature set will expand. However, the ultimate future of Imagine lies in YOUR hands. How can imagine work better for YOU and YOUR organization? IV.
