3 3 GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT The University of Malaga is a public institution dedicated to achieving excellence in the fields of higher education and scientific research. In half a century, it has managed to become one of the best universities in Spain, appointing Doctors Honoris Causa of great prestige, such as the Nobel Prize winners Mario Vargas Llosa and Severo Ochoa. The University of Malaga offers a wide educational range, including Bachelor s, Master s and Doctoral Degrees in every knowledge field. We encourage the creation of multidisciplinary teams and we firmly believe in the collaboration between universities. We have received the highest distinction granted by the Spanish Government in the education field, the Campus of International Excellence qualification. Our facilities are state of the art in infrastructures and we are strongly committed to society through cooperation programs for the development and respect to the environment. The international vocation of the University of Málaga reflects the multicultural tradition established by the history of our environment, an example of hybridization of civilizations. Our vast experience in international programs and outstanding offer for learning Spanish allows us to offer the best possible conditions to potential students and researchers from other countries. In addition to the high quality of the services and facilities provided by this University, our mild climate -probably the best in Europe-, and the natural and cultural charm of our environment guarantee a unique experience in the academic life of foreign visitors. The efforts we have made to support innovation, our enterprise and our close ties with the productive fabric have led this University to one of the reference positions in the transfer of knowledge. The excellent skills of our teaching staff and the success obtained by our graduates have turned the University into a leader in the creation and attraction of talent. I invite you to join your talent to ours and let us contribute to your future success. Adelaida de la Calle President of the University of Malaga
4 MUSEO PICASSO MÁLAGA 1. THE CITY OF MALAGA The University of Malaga is located in the capital of the Costa del Sol. Malaga was Picasso s home town and has a population of around 500,000 people. It is located in the Eastern coast of Andalusia and is easily accessible by different means of transport: high-speed train, seaport, a renewed freeways network and the (AGP) Malaga Airport (AGP) -Spain s third airport in terms of air traffic-, which takes travellers to Madrid in 45 minutes and to London or Paris in 2 hours and a half. Besides, moving around the city is very easy because of the cycle lane and the public transport network, which combines buses and underground. Enjoy the warm climate and the daytime and night activities even in the winter. 4
5 5 LIFESTYLE Malaga is well-known for its great quality of life and the beauty of its beaches. The malagueños, or the people from Malaga, are outgoing, tolerant and welcoming. They enjoy the warm climate and bright days of their city -the sunniest in Europe-, as well as its daytime and night activities, even in the winter. It is a safe city with excellent public health services and a marked international profile, due to the large British, German, Russian, Dutch and Finnish communities that have chosen Malaga as their place of residence. In addition, living in Malaga is cheap in comparison with most European cities. If you want to learn more about Malaga, visit the website:
