PathNavigator User Guide xii

1 Welcome to PathNavigator PathNavigator is a highly flexible and easy-to-use advanced gatekeeper that is essential for the management and operation of real-time video communication networks. PathNavigator provides full functionality for video and audio traffic management over IP and ISDN networks. Users are able to place calls just like they were using a phone. They don t have to worry about the complex prefixes normally required to route IP-based calls. IT managers can set pre-defined policies and provide cost effective resources to ensure optimal bandwidth usage and routing, lowering costs dramatically. PathNavigator incorporates Gatekeeper functionality at no additional cost. In short, it does two things superbly: Makes video communications easier for users Gives IT managers better control over network resources PathNavigator includes a revolutionary Intelligent Network Routing Engine, which decreases communication costs by its unique least-cost routing protocol and bandwidth management capabilities. While cohesively managing network resources such as MCUs and gateways, PathNavigator also performs registrations, address translation, provisioning and call forwarding to voice mail or cell phones. This Intelligent Network Routing Engine enables Polycom OneDial, provides real-time management of calls, and the enterprise the opportunity to truly maximize the power of video communications. Polycom OneDial enables Conference on Demand the ability to make multipoint calls from single-point endpoints on the network. Users can also call using aliases or dial just like a phone; the Routing Engine will automatically add or remove any prefixes, area codes and route calls using best resources at the least cost. Just like an enterprise telephone, users can now use 4-digit dialing for internal calling or 9 plus number dialing for external callers. It even ensures security by allowing remote users to be included over VPN. Using PathNavigator facilitates the ease of deploying a dial plan within the enterprise. The result is the satisfaction of video users throughout your organization. The simulation of the telephony experience with PathNavigator makes video dialing easy for end users. 1 1

PathNavigator User Guide License-specific Database and Hardware Requirements Licensed Endpoints Database PathNavigator Server Hardware 25 Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL PIII-500 MHz or better 100 Microsoft SQL PIII-650 MHz or better 500 Microsoft SQL PIII-1.4 GHz or better 1000 Microsoft SQL PIII-1.4 GHz or better 3000 Microsoft SQL P4 1.9 GHz or better Polycom PathNavigator requires external database software and operating licensing in order to operate. These are NOT included with the Polycom PathNavigator software. Please check with Microsoft for specific server requirements. Client System Requirements Client systems need the following operating system and software: Operating System: Windows 2000, 98, ME, and XP Browser: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher Installation During installation of the PathNavigator software, you will need to enter your license key codes. Before starting the installation, be sure to activate them as described under Instructions for Licensing on page Warning Running scheduled virus scans utilizes a great percentage of the CPU processing capabilities. During this time programs that access the database cannot write rapidly to the database. Hence, congestion can occur with programs such as PathNavigator. It is recommended to not run scheduled scans, but to run passive scans. Alternatively, using a faster processor for the SQL server can alleviate the congestion of PathNavigator writing to the SQL database during a scheduled scan. 2 2

Getting Started Installing the Software o install PathNavigator, log onto the system as the administrator or use an administrative account. The software can only be installed locally. It cannot be installed onto a networked drive. If you are installing PathNavigator in conjunction with a WebCommander, be sure to read the WebCommander Release Notes before installing PathNavigator. To install the software 1 Double-click Setup.exe. and follow the on-screen instructions. 2 When the View Release Notes screen appears, click the View Release Notes button. Read through the Release Notes for the latest information that impacts installation. When you are ready, click Next to go on to the next screen. Figure 2-1 PathNavigator Installation - View Release Notes When you click Next after the View Release Notes screen, PathNavigator checks to make sure you have the necessary version of several Windows utilities: mdac_type.exe, Jetinstall.exe, and JetSP5_W2K.exe. If it does not find one or more of these utilities, or if it finds older versions of them, it will display a message that you need to install the appropriate version of the utility from the folder System_Update_Resources on the PathNavigator CD. The installation will halt so that you can install these utilities. After installing them, restart the PathNavigator installation. 2 3

PathNavigator User Guide 3 At the Select PathNavigator Installation Type screen (Figure 2-2), select whether to install this PathNavigator as a stand-alone primary server or as a backup redundant server. If you will be setting up redundant servers, install the primary server first and select the first option. If choosing a backup server, the primary server must already be installed. The installation will not let you proceed if you select the option to install as a backup server before installing a primary server. Redundant configuration requires an additional IP address and also requires that the redundant server exist on the same subnet as the primary server. Figure 2-2 PathNavigator Installation - Select Installation Type 2 4

Getting Started 4 At the License Key Code screen, enter the serial number and keycode. If you are installing the backup server, enter the Redundancy keycode. (This field only displays during backup installation.) Figure 2-3 PathNavigator Installation - License Key Code 5 Accept the End User License Agreement (Figure 2-4) and enter the User Name and Organization in the Customer Information screen (Figure 2-5). Complete installation automatically installs the application in a folder created in: Drive:/ Program Files > Polycom > PathNavigator. Custom installation allows you to specify the directory into which the application will be installed. Figure 2-6 PathNavigator Installation - Setup Type 2 6

Getting Started 7 Specify Database Provider (Figure 2-7): Local database source (Microsoft Access) Remote database source (Microsoft SQL Server) If you are installing a backup server, the screen shown in Figure 2-7 will not be displayed and the Remote database Source option will automatically be chosen for you, since the Redundant server feature only works with an SQL server. Figure 2-7 PathNavigator Installation - Specify database provider 8 If you chose Local database source in Step 7, the Ready to Install the Program screen appears. Click Install. If you chose Remote database source in Step 7, turn to the next page for more information. 9 On the final screen, click Finish. 2 7

PathNavigator User Guide For Microsoft SQL Server Option When you specify Remote Database Source in Step 7 of the installation process, you are prompted to enter some additional information, as shown in Figure Specify how the SQL Server should specify the authenticity of the login ID. If your network uses Windows NT authentication, the information required is the normal logon information for your domain. If your network uses SQL Server authentication, the information required is an SQL Server machine name and an SQL server administrator name and password. Figure 2-8 PathNavigator Installation - Create a Data Source to SQL Server 2 Enter a machine name or IP address where the database provider is running. The drop-down list shows the SQL servers on the network. Local is the default and implies that SQL and PathNavigator are installed on the same server. 2 8

Getting Started 3 If you selected Windows NT authentication, you are prompted to login. Specify the Login ID and password of the SQL Server System Administrator. (Figure 2-9) Figure 2-9 PathNavigator Installation - Windows NT Authentication 4 On the next screen, click Install. 5 On the final screen, click Finish. Upgrading the Software To upgrade PathNavigator, log onto the system as the Administrator or use an administrative account. The software cannot be installed onto a networked drive. It can be installed remotely through terminal services. It is recommended that the databases be backed up prior to upgrading the application. For instructions on backing up the database, see Backing Up the PathNavigator Database on page A-41. Follow these main steps to upgrade the software. Refer to Installing the Software on page 2-3 for screenshots. If you have a redundant system, see the discussion under Upgrading the Software on an Active Redundant System on page 2-10 before proceeding. 1 Double-click Setup.exe. 2 Follow on-screen instructions. 3 Accept the End User License Agreement. 4 Choose complete or custom. 5 Click Install. 2 9

PathNavigator User Guide Upgrading the Software on an Active Redundant System The best way to upgrade an active redundant system is as follows: 1 On the Redundant PathNavigator System, go to the Redundant Server page (Configuration > General > Redundant Server) and determine the current primary and backup server. 2 Upgrade the backup server first. By upgrading the Backup Server first, the Redundant system will be deactivated but the primary will continue to run. Upgrading the backup system will not upgrade the SQL database. Important: Do not re-activate the redundancy system until both servers have been upgraded. 3 After the backup as been upgraded, upgrade the Primary Server. It is important that redundancy remains de-activated in order for the SQL database to be upgraded to support the new PathNavigator version. After both Backup and Primary servers have been upgraded, you should be able to re-activate the Redundancy System. Licensing Licenses in PathNavigator are based on the number of subscribed endpoints. PathNavigator allows you to enter of multiple license keys. Each of these keys will correspond to one of our predefined seat licenses: 25, 100, 500, These licenses will combine to form the number of endpoints that can register with PathNavigator and the number of concurrent calls. Adding More Licenses: In order to increase the number of licenses that are currently supported, your company can purchase a new license pack of 25, 100, 500, or This pack is a full version of PathNavigator with a new license key on the package. This new license key can be added to the current installation of PathNavigator to increase the seat count appropriately. Table 2-1 License Capacities License Pack Maximum Number of Registrants Maximum Number of Concurrent Calls *

Getting Started * The 25-pack supports 8 concurrent calls, but when used with the MGC, it will support up to 12 concurrent calls at no additional cost. However, if you bought a second 25-pack (with the server now supporting 50 registrants), it would only support 15 concurrent calls, not 24. Instructions for Licensing Proper licensing is necessary to operate PathNavigator. In order to activate PathNavigator, all license keys must be activated and converted into a key code. Entering the key code is required during installation of the software. If you increase seat count or add a redundant server, you will register licenses for those additions as well, receive a key code, and enter it on the Configuration > General > License screen. For details, see Adding Additional Seat Licenses or a Redundant Server License on page Installing Licenses for the first time 1 Launch a web browser and go to this URL: 2 If necessary, create a New User Account. If you already have a user account, log in. 3 In the left-hand menu, click Product Activation and then click Network Management. 4 In the list of products, click Activate PathNavigator. 5 In the License Number field, enter your license number and press Tab. The license number is located on the label of the packaging. 2 11

PathNavigator User Guide 6 Check the First time Installation check box. Your first-time license number becomes your Serial Number, and is copied into the Serial Number field, as well. If you add additional licenses in the future, you will use this same serial number. 7 Click Generate. Adding Additional Seat Licenses or a Redundant Server License When you add additional seat licenses, whether for a primary or redundant servers, you first activate your license and obtain a key code, and then enter the key code on the Configuration > General > License page in PathNavigator. When you activate your license, you will need your previous serial number. You can find this number in PathNavigator, on the Configuration > General > License page. You can also find it in the historical pages of the Polycom Resource Center Product Activation page. Although the serial number is normally as long as a license number, under certain circumstances the serial number will appear as only eight (8) digits on the Configuration > General > License page screen and the Product Activation history. In this case, you should only enter the eight-digit number. 2 12

Getting Started To add additional seat licenses 1 Launch a web browser and go to this URL, 2 Log on and then in the left-hand menu, click Product Activation and then click Network Management. 3 In the list of products, click Activate PathNavigator. 4 Enter your license number and your serial number for PathNavigator. 5 Click Generate. A key code is created for your license number and displays on the screen. 6 Highlight and copy the key code. 7 Log in to PathNavigator and go to Configuration > General > License. Figure 2-10 Configuration > General > License 2 13

PathNavigator User Guide 8 To add license for more seats, click Authentication Code. Figure 2-11 Configuration > General > License > Authentication Code Enter the Key code and serial number and click Submit. 9 To add licenses for more seats on the redundant server, click Redundancy Authentication and enter the Key code. Figure 2-12 Configuration > General > License > Redundancy Authentication Enter the Key code and click Submit. You only have to enter the redundancy authorization key code on one of the servers; it is automatically copied to the other server. 10 On the License page, the Licensed capacity should reflect the consolidated number of license key types entered. 2 14

Getting Started Premier Service PathNavigator comes with an initial 90-day warranty entitling the customer to maintenance support including software updates (bug fixes), as well as software upgrade (new feature) releases. Bug Fixes may come in the form of a new revision of software or just a patch release. Once the initial 90-day period is over, if the customer wishes to continue to receive support, updates, and new product releases, purchasing a maintenance contract is the most economical solution. Customers should contact their Polycom Reseller or a Polycom Sales representative for details. Receiving Key Codes: If your installation is under maintenance, when there is a new release you will receive a notification that contains the key code that will enable you to upgrade to the corresponding release of PathNavigator. 2 15
