2 Tasks for Work Group B: Data Integration Supply three deliverables: 1. Definition of the priority user needs for combinations of data (Mid-2015). 2. Recommendation for methods implementing the prioritised combinations of data (Mid-2016) 3. Recommendation about how to manage side-effects induced by data combinations (Mid-2016) Activities of WG B since its constitution (11/2014) are summarized in the Report submitted to UN-GGIM: Europe 09/2015

8 SDG s in focus

9 United Nations summit held from 25 to 27 September 2015 in New York released a new version of the UN SDG s. New version of the UN SDG s. - E.g. they have narrowed down the dimensions of the goals to five: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. - For WG B report it means that the current wording of the 17 goals should be checked and the report adapted.

12 How to better meet user needs in Europe? In a nutshell WG B identified the need for A European Spatial Data Strategy building on National Spatial Data Strategies Priority data for a spatial reference framework for statistics Improved workflows with geospatial technology

13 Five recommendations: 1. Encourages Member States in Europe to support the development of a European Spatial Data Strategy based on comprehensive National Spatial Data Strategies. [ ]. Suggestion: conduct an analysis of the survey of the global UN-GGIM WG NIA. It could be a starting point for a synopsis in order to compare available strategies and to identify lacks or incompatibilities. The objective is to initiate a process for a European Spatial Data Strategy. Funds available? Secretariat coordinates?

14 Five recommendations: 2. Invites Member States to initiate a process to increase the number of national, authoritative geospatial datasets (addresses and others) meeting stakeholders (like statistics) requirements within Member States. [ ] Suggestion: conduct an inventory (monitoring) on the current situation. The INSPIRE monitoring might be a good starting point. At least, a monitoring should be aligned to INSPIRE. Funds available? Secretariat coordinates?

15 Five recommendations: 3. That Member States consider the requirements of National Statistical Institutes to provide geospatial information for following trends and changes in the environment. 4. That Member States promote the use of geospatial workflows and technology as key to advancing the integration of geospatial and thematic information. 5. That Member States promote the use of geospatial workflows and technology, in particular for the Census Further suggestions by WG B about how to handle the recommendations will be submitted to the Executive Committee and the Secretariat.

Recommendation for methods implementing the prioritised combinations of data (Mid-2016) review current European interoperability frameworks and geospatial, statistical and other thematic data integration projects regarding methods for combinations of data; provide best practise guidance for the interaction between NMCAs, NSIs, environment agencies and other relevant organisations; review current use of data from multiple sources (crowd sourcing, community sourcing and regulatory geospatial representations) to identify case studies and best practices relevant for combinations with core data; Subgroup B.2 leader: United Kingdom (UK) activities started in June 2015, 2 teleconferences

Recommendation about how to manage side-effects induced by data combinations (Mid-2016) recommend effective methods of governance, quality management, data interoperability, access control and privacy safeguards for the integration of data from multiple sources with core data; identify legal and other barriers for the integration of data from relevant sources. Subgroup B.3 leader: Austria (AT) activities started in September 2015, 1 teleconference planned for October 2015
