4 A Seamless Transfer Process At Centenary, more than one-third of the population are transfer students. We ve developed a seamless transfer process that ensures all students, part-time or full-time, have access to the academic program that fits their needs. To help you reach your academic and career goals, we offer the following: A Liberal Transfer Policy At Centenary, we work closely with each transfer student to ensure that you can maximize the number of credits already earned. A minimum of 128 credits are required to earn a bachelor s degree. Students from community colleges and/or proprietary schools are allowed to transfer a maximum of 72 credits with a C- or better. Articulation agreements with all community colleges in New Jersey via NJtransfer.org can assist in applying your transfer credits to our curriculum with your best interest as our top priority. A maximum of 96 credits from a four-year or combination of two and four-year institutions may be transferred. In order to meet our residency requirement and earn a Centenary degree, a minimum of 32 credits must be completed at Centenary College. Transfer Counselors Transfer counselors are available to meet with you at any point prior to your transfer a service that sets Centenary apart from many colleges. We believe that starting early is one way to make sure you have the right credits for your major. Centenary transfer counselors not only help with the admissions process, but also serve as your interim Academic Advisor, offering personal guidance from pre-application to the selection and start of your first semester of classes. We begin by making an unofficial credit equivalency audit during your campus visit. This audit will match your current transfer credits to the Centenary College curriculum. After your meeting, you will have a clear understanding of your remaining academic requirements based upon your academic interest. You can then use our credit equivalency audit as a guide for completing courses at your transferring institution. Credit is awarded for scores at or above the C level on general or specific subject exams through the Advanced Placement Program (AP) and the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). If you are serving or have served in the military, you may have already earned credit toward a Centenary degree. Transfer students have been awarded college credit for the DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) examinations and military courses evaluated through ACE (The American Council on Education). These credits, along with Prior Learning Assessment credits may not apply toward the 32 credit residency requirement. Students 23 years or older can receive credit through the Prior Learning Assessment Program after completing a minimum of two credit-bearing courses at Centenary. Prior Learning Assessment credit can be awarded for work you may have been doing for years. The validation of prior learning is done by our faculty, who assess your prior learning portfolio and equate that experience to college courses. Transfer Admission Requirements To be considered for admission, transfer students are required to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and must submit: a completed application with essay, $30 application fee, proof of high school graduation and official transcripts from all prior institutions attended. SAT scores and complete high school transcripts are not required if you have earned more than 24 credits at your prior institution(s). If you are over 24 years of age, you do not need an SAT score to apply. 2
