(+45) Lunch Solution Process: Step 1 Four groups of eight participants develop new concepts for safe water and new partnership models Safe Water Summit and the MDG s Dinner Test Panel By Ambassador Carsten Staur, Permanent Representative of Denmark to the UN. Carsten Staur has in the last year co-facilitated the negotiations on the outcome of the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG s) in New York on the September He will give a short update on the results of the Summit and assess the relevant parts of the outcome document on how to achieve the MDG s before 2015 (live on videolink from New York). The summit s test panel provide professional advice for each group in relation to content, communication and business potential ? Solution Process: Step 2 The groups continue the solution process with new input and inspiration from the test panel. 2

Lene Lange, Professor, Aalborg University Summit Partners : work aims to prevent and alleviate human needs, suffering and discrimination, nationally as well as internationally. The is one of 186 National Red and Red Crescent Societies. Access to clean water is a fundamental requirement for sustainable social and economic development in the world and this is one of the areas which the works in internationally through our local partners. To make Africa able to access and handle safe water we need to constantly explore new solutions involving all relevant actors. This is why the has taking the initiative for the Safe Water Summit. 4 Danida: Danida is a part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Danida administers Danish development assistance. It is a strategic priority in Danish development cooperation to work for a stronger private sector. The developing countries need an enabling environment for the private sector to create economic growth, one of the preconditions for effective poverty alleviation. Thus, for Danida, it is important that the Danish private companies participates actively in this endeavour. The Safe Water is supported financially by the programme Innovative Partnerships for Development. This programme supports partnerships that advance Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and partnerships that advance Socially Responsible Innovation. Bindslev A/S: Bindslev A/S has been a producer of societal improvements for companies, ministries and organizations more than 250 times and with more than experts in less than ten years. They deliver new strategies, involvement and visibility for their clients and produce solutions through a network of Denmark s most creative and sharpest scientists, experts and experienced business people. Bindslev A/S created the concept for the summit with and Grundfos and has helped making the summit a reality by facilitating the production and donation of time. The Confederation of Danish Industry: The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) is the premier lobbying organisation for Danish business on national and international issues. DI aims to provide the best working conditions for Danish industry in order to improve the competitive edge. DI International Business Development (DIBD) assists Danish companies that seek international growth by developing their businesses in challenging markets in Asia, Eastern Europe, USA, Africa, and Latin America. Advisory Board members in addition to the summit partners Lene Lange, Professor, Aalborg University: Lene Lange is Dean of Research, Faculty of Science and Engineering at Aalborg University. Her research focus is on development of new and sustainable technologies, providing biological solutions to globally important problems (water, food and energy), hereby contributing to transfer from fossil based to a non-fossil based society. Flemming Konradsen, Professor, University of Copenhagen: Flemming Konradsen is Deputy Head of Department at Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen. Flemming Konradsens research is focused on vector borne diseases, water supply and sanitation, toxicology and health and climate change in low and middle income countries. Knud Vilby, journalist: Knud Vilby is a journalist, commentator and author of numerous books on foreign policy and developmental conditions with particular emphasis on the African situation. Knud Vilby does independent consultant work and teaching at Roskilde University. Knud Vilby is also former Chair of MS Action Aid Denmark and is now member of the board of DanChruchAid. Danish Water Forum (DWF): Danish Water Forum is a network of Danish water organisations aiming at highlighting Danish water expertise and knowledge and facilitating concerted actions. The competences and high standards of its members make DWF an excellent entry point to the Danish water sector and its services within all aspects of water industry, technology, science and management. DWF represents: Contractors and Manufacturers, Water companies and Consultants, Research institutions, Government authorities and NGOs. 4

5 Roundtable Participants Søren Pind, Minister of Development Cooperation, Denmark: Mr. Søren Pind has been Minister for Development Cooperation in Denmark since February 2010, and has been member of the Danish Parliament since Søren Pind was member of Copenhagen City Council from , and served as Mayor with responsibility for building and technology administration in the City of Copenhagen, Søren Pind has a Master of Laws from the University of Copenhagen, where he has served as a part-time lecturer in constitutional law Maria Mutagamba, Minister of Water & Environment, Uganda: Ms. Hon. Maria Mutagamba has been Minister of Water and the Environment since Before this she has served as Minister of State for Water Resources since She is a Member of Parliament in Uganda. Hon. Maria Mutagamba is also president of African Ministers Responsible For Water (AMCOW), coordinator for Global Women Leaders Forum for Water and Sanitation (2005 Present) and Vice Chairperson for United Nations Task Force on Integrated Water Resource Management. Anders Ladekarl, Secretary General, : Mr. Anders Ladekarl is Secretary General of the (2008-). He holds a BA in history from Aarhus University and an MA in Economics from the University of Copenhagen. Among other positions he previously worked as Head of International Department of the Danish Refugee Council, as Country Representative in Serbia for the Danish Refugee Council, as Coordinator for the Tsunami Reconstruction in Indonesia and as Head of International Department. Abbas Gullet, Secretary General, Kenya Red : Mr. Abbas Gullet has been Secretary General in Kenya Red since 2005, providing strategic leadership for the society in delivering its mission of alleviating human suffering to the community. Mr. Abbas Gullet has earlier been treasurer of Kenya Red and Deputy Director of Operations. In Geneva he has held the positions as Director of Disaster Management and Coordination in the International Federation of Red Societies and he has held numerous positions in the field. In 2004 he established the New Partnership of African Red and Red Crescent Societies. Steffen Stenberg, Director of the European Commission department of Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection (ECHO): Mr. Steffen Stenberg is the director of The European Commission department of Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection. Steffen Stenberg has held several positions in the European Commission among others Head of Unit, Foreign Policy, DG Development and Head of Unit for Humanitarian assistance to Africa, Caribbean and the Pacific in ECHO. The European Union as a whole is one of the world s main humanitarian aid donors. ECHO is the service of the European Commission responsible for this activity. Poul Nielson, member of the UN Secretary General s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation: Mr. Poul Nielson is a member of the UN Secretary General s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNS- GAB). Poul Nielson is also former Minister of Development Cooperation and Minister for Energy in Denmark and former EU Commissioner of Development. Poul Nielson has been Member of Parliament for several periods during a period of three decades. He is also current and former chairman of the social Democratic Party s Foreign Policy Committee Carsten Bjerg, CEO, Grundfos: Carsten Bjerg is CEO and Group President of Grundfos since He holds an MSc in Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, and an ACPMM from Cambridge University, U.K Carsten Bjerg joined Grundfos as Director for International Production and in 2000 he was appointed member of the Grundfos Group Management. Her research focus is on development of new and sustainable technologies, providing biological solutions to globally important problems (water, food and energy), hereby contributing to transfer from fossil based to a non-fossil based society. Marcel van Beek, Regional Manager, Vestergaard Frandsen Group S.A.: Mr. Marcel van Beek has been with Vestergaard Frandsen Group for a number of years, first based in Ghana as Director for the West African Region and currently at Headoffice in Switzerland with responsibility for the European Market. He has extensive knowledge of launching new products in Africa as well as working in Public-Private-Partnerships. Vestergaard Frandsen is an international company specializing in complex emergency response and disease control products. Practical Information What? Safe Water When?
