21 Mission Statement Mission/Vision Our mission is to cultivate students who think both creatively and critically, innovating new forms of thought and expression that build on the world s richest traditions in art, literature, and philosophy. We develop master communicators, skilled in both verbal and nonverbal forms of argument, interpretation, and advocacy. Through the visual and performing arts, literature, language, reasoning, and communication, our graduates are intellectually and ethically prepared to participate successfully in a highly diverse and competitive global environment. Vision Statement The College of Arts & Letters envisions itself as a nationally-recognized institution of groundbreaking scholarship and creative work that serves as a first-choice destination for students from California and around the globe. Our students will continue to cultivate a rich and varied set of critical, creative, and communication skills that will furnish them with a rewarding intellectual life, successfully place them in their chosen calling or career, and empower them to make meaningful contributions to their broader society.
