Wiring RS-485 PC Communication Use CAT-5 UTP (or better) cable (shielded recommended). Cable should be run in a daisy-chained connection from the unit to the PC s DB9 COM port via an RS-485 to RS-232 converter. Ethernet Ethernet connections to the device are made through Ethernet wires available on the back of the device (RJ-45 Connector not included). Refer to page 8 for RJ-45 connector config. options. Power For most installations, use AWG cable. Remember to calculate line-loss when selecting cable. Not applicable to 4G SecureControl Wiegand Output to Access Control Panel (ACP) For 18 AWG, the maximum cable distance is 500 ft. (150m); for 20 AWG, the maximum is 300 ft. (90m); for 22 AWG, the maximum is 200 ft. (60m). Three-conductor wire (shielded recommended) is required for Data 0, Data 1, and WGND.* USB Standard cable with Micro AB plug to A plug (USB on the Go) is used. Install Ferrite Core In order for the 4G Lite devices to comply with FCC Class B & CISPR 22 Class B regulations, the installer and/or end user is required to use the supplied Ferrite Material with 3 turns on the Ethernet cables exiting the rear of all 4G V-Flex Lite and 4G CR-Pass models. In addition, compliance with the above regulations requires the installer and/or end user to use the supplied Ferrite Material with 3 turns on the I/O lines for the 14-pin terminal block cables of the SecureControl device with WLAN option only. Ethernet Ferrite P/N: STEWARD 28A2432-0A2 I/O Lines P/N: STEWARD 28A2432-0A2 Install the ferrite cores as close to the device as possible. IMPORTANT: Refer to local electrical codes and standards before selecting a cable type. * L-1 EAS always recommends the use of wiegand ground STEP TWO: WIRING QUICK START GUIDE 5

Power 4G CR-Pass, 4G V-Flex Lite & 4G V-Station Lite Power Supply Use an external power supply that provides a minimum of 0.5A at 12VDC PER DEVICE. The power supply should be regulated, filtered, and dedicated to L-1 EAS products only. If sharing power between devices, be sure that each unit receives 0.5A (e.g. two units would require a 12VDC, 1A supply). A battery backup or uninterrupted power supply (UPS) with built-in surge protection is recommended. Note: The USB port on your computer does not provide enough power for the device to operate properly, a separate power supply must be always used. Power Over Ethernet (PoE) - (for 4G CR-Pass only) When the device is powered over Ethernet, an IEEE 802.3af compliant Active Midspan Injector must be used. This injector is not supplied with L-1 EAS products. EXTERNAL VDC POWER SOURCE + 12V - CONNECTIONS FOR AN EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE Note: Always have earth ground (E GND Pin) connection as well to provide proper ESD protection including PoE. WARNING: Under powering may cause memory and data corruption; over powering may cause hardware damage. Both of these situations will void the warranty. 14 USB 4G CR-Pass, 4G V-Flex Lite & 4G V-Station Lite When the device is connected to a PC workstation for the first time, a Found New Hardware message will be displayed. The Hardware Installation Wizard prompts you to connect to the internet to search for a driver. Select Not at this time > Next. Then choose Install the driver automatically. NOTE: The driver will not install properly unless SecureAdmin Lite has been installed first. When the driver installation is complete, right-click on the My Computer icon and select Manage > Device Manager. Under Ports (COM and LPT) you will find the port number associated with your Gadget Serial (e.g. COM3).* *IMPORTANT: When registering your product in SecureAdmin Lite use this port number. STEP THREE: COMMUNICATION QUICK START GUIDE 12
RS-485 RS-232 from the Com Port RS-232 to RS-485 converter RS-485 to Baud For RS-485 installations, the cable should be run in a daisy-chain configuration (i.e. converter > position 1 > position 2 > position 3, etc.). Choose one twisted pair of conductors to use for RS-485A (Blue wire - Pin 17 of 26) and RS-485B (Blue/Black wire - Pin 19 of 26). Conductor should be used for RS-485_GND (Black/Red) Pin 20 of 26. NOTE: When installing a unit on a network with both legacy and new products, the new software will not detect the older product(s). In these mixed installations, both VeriAdmin and SecureAdmin Lite must be used. IMPORTANT: A maximum of 31 devices may be installed on the same line. The maximum total cable length is 4000 ft. (1200m). The cable must be dedicated to this installation and not used for any other purpose (use L-1 EAS products only). STEP THREE: COMMUNICATION QUICK START GUIDE 13
Wireless Option and Ethernet 4G Lite devices by default are DHCP enabled. RS-485 FOR WIRELESS LAN(S): When a wireless network has been installed, it must be enabled through SecureAdmin Lite TM. L-1 EAS wireless enabled devices support b and g standards. WEP Open, WPA and WPA2 are supported. SecureAdmin Lite Server LAN Ethernet NOTE: SecureAdmin Lite software supports restricted IP address for improved security. This feature allows you to specify which IP addresses are allowed to communicate with the device. wireless STEP THREE: COMMUNICATION QUICK START GUIDE 14
Wiegand Communication Use AWG cable (shielded cable is recommended) in a homerun configuration from each unit to the ACP. Connect WIEGAND_OUT0 (Green wire Pin 10 of 26) to ACP Data 0. Connect WIEGAND_OUT1 (White wire Pin 12 of 26) to ACP Data 1. Connect WIEGAND GND (Black/White wire Pin 14 of 26) to ACP reader common (0VDC). IMPORTANT: By default, the Wiegand format is set to standard 26-bit with site code 0. For more information, refer to the Wiegand Tab section of the 4G Lite Operator s Manual. Example Format Information Type: Standard 26-bit Alt Site Code and Fail Site Code Range: Template ID Number Range: Extended ID Number Range: N/A ID Start Bit: 9 Length of ID: 16 Site Code Start bit: 1 Length of Site Code: 8 Start Bit: 0 NOTE: On installation, the system administrator will be prompted to select either a pre-existing Wiegand file format or create a custom format, and upload it to the unit before the first use. To configure a 4G Lite unit to send an alternate Site Code, a custom Wiegand format must be created. STEP THREE: COMMUNICATION QUICK START GUIDE 15
