4 About Mylestones Training Mylestones Training is a business initiative of the Cerebral Palsy League (CPL). Mylestones Training was established to provide a strong internal training function to CPL and to develop a substantial training base for the Queensland disability sector. As a registered training organisation, Mylestones Training is able to deliver qualification and nationally accredited training to a national standard. We also deliver professional development sessions and workshops to ensure we meet our clients everchanging needs. Our philosophy Mylestones Training is committed to providing participants with the skills to develop both generic and specific skills and knowledge to improve work performance and to develop their career. 5 How CPL employees nominate for courses 1. When an employee decides to nominate for a training event, they first need to notify their manager. 2. If approved, the manager must then the team at mytraining@cplqld.org.au requesting the employee to be recorded as a nominee. 3. If a place is available in the training event, a representative of the Mylestones Training team will send a confirmation to the confirmed participant and their manager. If the requested training event is fully booked, the nominee and their manager will be contacted and informed of the next available session. 4. Confirmed participants will receive a reminder prior to the date of training. 5. Training events will be cancelled if the minimum number of participants is not reached, and the participants and their managers will be notified. 6. Following the training event, managers will be notified of staff attendance and absences. Course attendance Participants attending training events over more than one day are asked to ensure they are able to attend on all dates. Participants will be asked to sign an attendance sheet and this information will be used to maintain training records. Managers will be notified of staff attendance and absences. Cancellation procedure If a participants needs to withdraw from a training event, they are required to notify the Mylestones Training team as soon as possible. 7 Organisational Orientation CPL staff and volunteers are required to attend Organisational Orientation within two weeks of commencing their role at CPL. This training event provides participants with an overview of CPL s structure, values, key policies impacting on service delivery, employment conditions and employee rights and responsibilities. This training event provides participants with an overview of WHS legislation, policies and procedures in practice at CPL, risk management strategies and manual handling techniques. 10 Medications Workshop This workshop provides participants with the skills and knowledge to provide physical assistance with medication, or to support clients with selfmedication; in response to an assessed need identified by the client or their substitute decision maker in accordance with their health/support/care plan. 16 Effective Communication, Mealtime Assistance and AAC Workshop This workshop provides participants with the skills and knowledge to provide assistance to clients with complex communication needs. This also provides participants with techniques to assist clients at mealtimes. This all-day course looks at the holistic strategies for caring for clients with complex needs. 23 Follow Basic Food Safety Practices This covers the skills and knowledge required for basic food safety practices including personal hygiene, basic pest control requirements and basic food disposal requirements when working in a food service environment. Clothing and footwear requirements for working in and/or moving between food-handling areas Personal clothing maintenance, laundering and storage requirements Appropriate bandages and dressings to be used when undertaking food-handling Suitable standard for materials, equipment and utensils used in the food-handling area Responsibilities for maintaining the work area in a clean and tidy state Use and storage of cleaning equipment as required to carry out own work responsibilities Waste collection, recycling and handling procedures relevant to own work responsibilities Food disposal requirements Pest containment requirements Open to anyone working in the disability sector 4 hours A statement of attainment will be issued on Follow Safety Procedures for Direct Care Work This course is specifically designed to cater for safety aspects of work involving delivery of services in-home and community care, as well as disability services. The course focuses on maintaining safety of the worker, the people being supported and other community members. Awareness of all relevant workplace procedures including: Hazard management policies and procedures Care plans and work instruction Procedures for the use of manual handling and mobility equipment Personal protective equipment, duress and other alarms Emergency, fire and incident procedures Awareness that OHS issues are regulated by state/ territory acts, regulations, codes of practice and industry standards Knowledge and understanding of the workplace OHS system, sufficient to recognise situations affecting OHS and to take the appropriate action to rectify the situation, including specific awareness of manual handling hazards as well as general awareness of other hazards that occur in the sector Open to anyone working in the disability sector 4 hours A statement of attainment will be issued on 23
24 Assist Clients with Medication This course covers the knowledge and skills required to assist clients with medication. The course addresses the provision of physical assistance with medication or supporting clients with self medication in response to an assessed need identified by the client or their substitute decisionmaker for assistance with medication, in accordance with the health/support/ care plan and in line with jurisdictional requirements. 30 Manager and Supervisor Workplace Health and Safety Training This training provides participants with the underpinning knowledge to meet their WHS obligations and to contribute to positively progressing organisational WHS. The training consists of four key modules. Modules include: WHS accountabilities and responsibilities (including legislation) WHS risk management WHS incident reporting and investigation Workers compensation and rehabilitation All levels of management who have the responsibility for the workplace health and safety of employees, contractors and others Pre-work as designated 8 hours Workplace Health and Safety Committee Training This training provides participants with initial instruction to help support them in their role as a WHS Committee member.
