New 3ds transfer with a larger SD card

1 Jan 18, 2015 I've seen the video Nintendo released showing the best method of transfering data from one system to another, but it wasn't very clear about what to do if the SD card on your older system is larger than 4gb. I already have a larger micro SDHC card ready for my New 3ds, but I'm not sure at what point in the transfering process it would be best to transfer all the data from the New 3ds onto it. I would assume I would use my laptop to transfer the data from the New 3ds 4gb card onto the larger one before I begin the process, is that correct? And for that step, would it be as simple as copying the data and putting it into the empty card using my laptop? If you are already using a microsd card with your current system, then you will be able to physically move your current microsd card to the new system. In order to do this, you will need to use a size #00 Philips head screwdriver to remove the battery cover of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, so be sure to have one handy before you attempt to transfer your content. I've transferred my data and now begun using a microsd card (32 GB) with my (what is now known as Old ) 3DS XL, so it should now be exactly as the same as the standard 3DS 1

2 System Transfer where as the last step in the transfer process you just switch the microsd cards from the 3DS XL to the New 3DS XL. You'll either need to have a microsd card slot on your laptop or a microsd to SD card Adapter, but yes, you just "drag and drop" your original 3DS SD card data onto your laptop, then drag and drop that same data onto your (up to 32GB) microsd card. You seem to be implying that I need to transfer my old 3ds data on the larger micro SD card and put that in my old system, and I don't understand how that is going to work. Wouldn't that run the risk of having more data to transfer than the New 3ds SD card could handle? Also, how would I switch the systems SD cards after the process is over, if I do it that way, won't the larger SD card end up being the one being formatted at the end of the transfer? I don't see why it needs to be done backwards. All the complications of this transfering process arise from issues related to the NNID and the different ways normal SD cards and micro SD cards handle data. I don't see why transfering the data on New 3ds micro SD card to another micro SD card before the process begins wouldn't be possible. It sounds to me like the same principle as upgrading to an SD card with more space, which I have done before. If it does need to be done in this odd backwards way, could you explain why? I understand that if the old 3ds has a micro SD card in it the transfer is much simpler, but I want my New 3ds to be the one that ends up with the larger capacity SD card. EDIT: For clarity, by transfer process I mean the steps highlighted in this video: Yes, at some point you will "need to transfer my (your) old 3ds data on the larger micro SD card", but my way you do it before the System Transfer begins. What the video shows is doing a similar thing, but during the System Transfer process. At 1:57 seconds of the video, Step 8 is selecting "Yes to confirm you are using a SD card on the source system", and then you stop the System Transfer process, remove the SD card and insert it into your laptop, transfer the 3DS data to your laptop, insert the larger microsd card into your laptop and transfer the data onto it. Then you remove the 4GB microsd card from the New 3DS XL, and insert the larger (up to 32GB) microsd card into the New 3DS XL, restart it to complete the System Transfer process. 3

4 My way is that I've already transferred the data onto my 32GB microsd card, so that is in Step 8, I'll select "No" since I do have a microsd card in my source 3DS XL and then I'll just have to switch that microsd card for the one in the New 3DS XL. I was confused because I thought transfering using a pc transfered SD card data during the system to system conncection during the process. It seems that only transfers the system's internal memory, and SD card data is done via PC. So there are a ton of different ways to go about it. I'll probably just follow the video's instructions and swap SD cards in the target system on step 14. The first few times I watched that I missed the fine print they added on that step. No worries, I'm the same and been doing a lot of checking here, Nintendo of Europe, Nintendo of Australia, YouTube videos and other sources, and a lot of this does make me do a lot of head scratching trying to figure it all out. And well, till I receive my Majora's Mask Limited Edition New 3DS XL on or about Feb. 13th I won't be able to tell you with a 100% percent guarantee that there won't be any of unforeseen extra steps you and/or I might have to take, but I expect with a 99.9% accuracy 4
