4 4 Introduction 1. Introduction This manual describes the procedure for the data download from digital tachographs using several external devices and for transmitting this data into the software TachoScan. Not experienced program user should follow exactly the described steps. Users with background knowledge can go through directly to the particular interesting topics. This text is intended for users with no experience with external devices. For this reason the respective steps are described thoroughly. Contact to the developer of TachoScan Contact to support and service FAQ TachoReader Mobile TachoReader Mobile is a download device and supports all established digital tachograph makes. That data remain in the device memory until they are transmitted via USB interface into other storage medium. During the download TachoReader Mobile is supplied with power by the tachograph (no extra energy sources needed). The TachoReader Mobile is a small, user-friendly and handy device. Fig.1. 5 Other devices - Tutorial - Pomoc 5 installed software TachoScan, free USB interface ATTENTION TachoReader Mobile is not supported by Windows 98, Millennium and older operating systems. Installation procedure: 1. Plug TachoReader Mobile into a free USB port and wait until it is automatically detected and installed by Windows. 2. You can look up the installed TachoReader Mobile as USB mass memory in the device manager (Fig.2). Fig.2. Device Manager 2.2. Configuration Before you launch the download, configure TachoReader Mobile in the following way:

6 6 TachoReader Mobile 1. Plug TachoReader Mobile into a USB port. 2. Start the program TachoScan. press, select the menu option "Device configuration" (Fig.3), Fig.3. Menu TachoReader Mobile The "Device configuration" window may be opened directly from TachoReader Mobile, by executing the file "Konfigurator". then select the following settings:

Activities - Driver activities (driving, rest, availability, work) on the particular day, c. since previous download - pick all data since previous download with TachoReader Mobile. The information about the previous download are stored in the memory of TachoReader Mobile. Thus downloads with other devices are not taken into account. We suggest to use this option. d. since... till... - set the time period for the download as required, e. last... days - download data for the last (number of) days, f. all - download all activity data stored in the tachograph (for all days),

8 8 TachoReader Mobile The data download from a tachograph can take up to 1 hour time. g. Events and faults - download events (e.g. driving without an appropriate card) and faults (e.g. Power supply interruption), h. Detailed speed data - download of detailed speed data, The digital tachograph records the speed with a frequency 1 record/second. But the storage saves records only for the last 24 hours driving time. The download procedure takes longer, when you download the speed data as well. i. technical tachograph data - Information like calibration date, tachograph serial number, j. [Save configuration ] - use this button to save the new configuration settings, k. Software update - this window is under construction, l. Save device settings - When this box is checked, neither configuration settings nor download dates (for all tachographs) will be deleted during formatting of the TachoReader. ATTENTION We recommend to use this option. m. [Format ] - Launching the formatting process. ATTENTION Before launching the formatting process check if all the data has been transferred from the device to an external data medium. n. [Erase ] - Use this function to delete all the download files from the memory of the device. ATTENTION Before launching the formatting process check if all the data has been transferred from the device to an external data medium. Recommended configuration for ALL downloads (Fig.5):

Note that in the section "Activities" the option "since previous download" is checked. All stored activity data are automatically downloaded when downloading data with TachoReader Mobile for the first time. The download of the speed data is preset. Remember, that the tachograph saves speed data only for the last 24 hours of driving time Download procedure Requirements for the data download from a tachograph: download device TachoReader Mobile,

10 10 TachoReader Mobile company card, vehicle key for the vehicle in question. Download procedure: 1. Turn the vehicle key in the position II (ignition) the control lamps on the instrument board flash (tachograph activation). ATTENTION We recommend to perform these operation together with the driver. 2. Insert the company card into the slot No. 1 or No The tachograph detects the card. Confirm the checkback Company lock yes/no. 4. Plug your TachoReader Mobile into the tachograph interface. Position of the interface within the tachograph - see tachograph manual. 5. The TachoReader Mobile starts the download automatically (both LED flashing green). ATTENTION Depending on the data range the download can take up to 1 hour time. Flash the LEDs in the device with red light during the download then see: "TachoReader Mobile Error messages 12 ". 6. After the download both LEDs beam green (they beam red by download faults). ATTENTION Repeat the download when a download fault is signaled. When the repeated download is faulty as well, try to download data from another tachograph. If the download from another tachograph is OK, the first tachograph may be disturbed (visit a tachograph service station). When the second download is disturbed contact the service of the TachoReader manufacturer. After the download pull the company card from the tachograph. After pressing the reject button, you are asked, if the company lock has to be activated. It is useful to ALWAYS set the company lock, to avoid downloading of data by third parties (external

11 Other devices - Tutorial - Pomoc 11 persons could download data and lock the tachograph for their own company card) Transferring data files into PC Transfer procedure from TachoReader Mobile into a PC: 1. Start the program TachoScan. 2. Press the button and select the option "Pick data files" and "all" (Fig.6). Fig.6. Context menu: "Pick data files" When under "Program settings" the option "Delete original files after download" is checked, then the original files will be automatically deleted from TachoReader Mobile after successful download. It is easier and more efficient to work with the device when this option is activated. It is also possible to pick only a specified data file from the TachoReader Mobile. Click "Pick data file" and then select the desired file in the list. 3. TachoScan picks the data and performs the evaluation (the digital signature check as well). If the digital signature is valid, the data is saved to the data base and the original file copied into the PC. The download file data will be presented in the "Daily view" (see: "Help for TachoScan "). The original data files (raw data files) are transferred into the directory "Digital". For the location of this directory look up "Program settings". It is also possible to move the files from TachoReader into the PC (backup) without involving the program TachoScan. For this purpose perform the common Windows copying procedure (the TachoReader is installed as a removable drive named "PNSTACHO"). The download data file name has the following format: "Reg. No, download date, download time.dtg (extension)" (example: SB3106G _34.dtg).

12 12 TachoReader Mobile The memory of TachoReader Mobile can contain up to about original data files 2.5. Error messages The TachoReader Mobile announces errors with flashing LED. The error type is identified by a number of red impulses between green signals. For instance: the LED beams green light, then twice red, again green. After that the cycle repeats. In this case the error is coded by the two red signals of the LED. Error messages: 1. 1 x red - no communication with the tachograph. Check, if the company card is correctly inserted. When the position of the card is correct, check if it is properly detected by the tachograph x red - data downloaded not completely. Repeat the download x red - no memory space in the device storage. Move some files from TachoReader Mobile onto external data media. Necessary memory space in TRM: at least 10 MB x red - memory cluster fault or error. Contact the service of the manufacturer. 5 x red - File system other than FAT32. Format device memory once again. Use the file system FAT32.

Transfer all files onto another data medium before formatting x red - Device disturbed / damaged. Contact the service of the manufacturer. LED do not flash - Power supply interruption. Is the tachograph activated? The ignition key must be in the position II (ignition) (the control lamps on the instrument board flash). 3. TachoReader Combo TachoReader Combo device allows to download data directly from a tachograph or a driver s card, without having to connect other devices. What is more, the device makes it possible to store data in its internal memory until the data is transferred to a different data carrier (e.g. a computer disk).

TachoReader Combo The device set includes: Two 1,5V AA batteries to supply the device without having to connect it to a different source of electricity, Mini-USB cable by means of which the device is connected with a computer (transfers data from the memory to a computer disk) and provided supply from the computer, Tacho-Combo cable, which makes it possible to supply directly from the tachograph, without having to use batteries. 18 18 TachoReader Combo 5) Driver card inserted, device connected neither to PC nor to tachograph Power supply from the batteries, driver card can be downloaded Installation Required elements for PC installation: the device TachoReader Combo, the cable MINI-USB, installed program TachoScan or 4Trans with available module TachoScan. ATTENTION The device is not supported by the systems Windows 98 and Millennium. Installation procedure: 1. Connect the device TachoReader Combo to USB port via Mini USB cable and wait till Windows has performed the installation automatically. 2. In device manager you can find the installed TachoReader Combo as USB Mass Storage Device.

Configuration "TR Combo" configuration is done similarly to the configuration of: "TR Mobile" and is described in the item: "Configuration 5 " Download from tachograph Required equipment for a data download from a tachograph: the device TachoReader Combo, company card, the cable Tacho-Combo, vehicle key for the vehicle in question. Download procedure:

20 20 1. TachoReader Combo Turn the vehicle key in the position II (ignition) the control lamps on the instrument board flash (tachograph activation). ATTENTION We recommend to perform these steps together with the driver. 2. Insert the company card into the slot No. 1 or No The tachograph detects the card. Confirm the checkback Company lock yes/no. 4. Plug the TachoReader Combo to tachograph using the Tacho Combo cable. Position of the interface within the tachograph - see tachograph manual. 5. Press one of the following buttons to start the download: - Download all data - Download data according to configuration (see "TachoReader Combo -> Configuration 19 ") - Download last 28 days Press the respective button. A running download process is indicated by flashing of the red LED on the device foreside and by the expanding progress bar.

When the red LED on the foreside of the device lights up for about 4 seconds and within this period three short acoustic signals can be heard and then the LED goes out for about 2 seconds (this sequence repeats), please check the chapter "Error codes - TachoReader Combo 24 " for error interpretation. Repeat the download when a download fault is signaled. When the repeated download is faulty as well, try to download data from another tachograph. If the download from another tachograph is OK, the first tachograph may be disturbed (visit a tachograph service station). When the second download is disturbed contact the Service 43 of the TachoReader Combo manufacturer. 6. Recurrent acoustic signals can be heard and the LEDs within the progress bar flash as an indication of completed download. 7. After the download is completed unplug the Tacho-Combo cable from the tachograph and from the TachoReader Combo and pull the company card. After pressing the reject button you are asked if the company lock has to be activated. It is useful to ALWAYS set the company lock, to avoid downloading of data by third parties (external persons could download data and lock the tachograph for their own company card).

Download from driver card Required equipment for a data download from a driver card: the device TachoReader Combo, driver card to be read out, depending on the download method: 1. Place batteries into the battery compartment of TachoReader Combo (if they are not already there) - download with the Combo alone (current supply form the batteries). 2. Cable Tacho-Combo - download using Combo and tachograph (power supply from tachograph). Connect the TachoReader Combo to tachograph using Tacho-Combo cable. 3. Cable MINI-USB - download using Combo and PC (power supply from PC). Connect the TachoReader Combo with the PC using the MINI-USB cable. Download procedure: 1. Plug cables and connect devices according to the actual download method (see above) 2. Insert the driver card into the slot of the TachoReader Combo (fig.14). The download starts automatically when a card in the slot is detected - this is announced by a sound and growing progress bar.

Recurrent acoustic signals can be heard and the LEDs within the progress bar flash as an indication for completed download. 4. Pull the driver card from the Combo slot Transferring data files to PC Transfer of data from "TR Combo" to PC is done in a similar manner as via: "TR Mobile" and is described in the item: "Transferring data files to PC 11 " Error codes - TachoReader Combo The errors of TachoReader Combo are signaled by sound and flashing of the LEDs. The red LED on the foreside of the device lights up for about 4 seconds. Within this period three short acoustic signals can be heard. The LED goes out for about 2 seconds. This sequence repeats. The fault code is displayed in the progress bar: this bar consists of 8 LEDs. Each LED stands for one fault code. The LED close to the mark 0% depicts the fault code 1; the LED next to the mark 100% stands for the fault code 8. The meaning of the error codes depends on the data source:

No feedback from tachograph / tachograph not plugged Check, if the company card is correctly inserted. When the position of the card is correct, check if it is properly detected by the tachograph. 2. Data volume too small (files can be saved only when larger than 500B). Repeat the download. 3. No storage space on the microsd card Transfer all files from TachoReader Combo onto another data medium. Necessary memory space: at least 10 MB. 4. Error in FAT MBR1 false MBR partition table Format the device memory. 5. Not FAT32 file system Format device memory once again. Use the file system FAT32.

Error in FAT MBR2 false BS partition table Format the device memory from driver card Possible errors when downloading from a driver card: 1. False card type Insert the card correctly again. Check if it is the right card type. 2. False file structure of the driver card Insert the card again and repeat the download. 3. Read error of the driver card Insert the card again and repeat the download.

No card inserted / the card withdrawn during download Check if the card has been pulled out when downloading data. If so repeat the download. 7. Read error Download the data again Battery change To replace the batteries proceed as follows: take off the blue protection skin press the spot on the back of the case as shown by the arrow (fig. 3) and remove the cover. There you will find two batteries AA 1,5V. take out old batteries and put new ones in.

USB Transmission cable Plug the transmission cable ("Tacho USB") into USB port for direct data download from tachograph into the TachoScan software on the laptop. The advantage of this solution is the low cost of the device itself (when the user owns already a laptop and TachoScan). You will have to take into account, that the whole set is bulky and the laptop needs external power supply.

Installation Requirements for the installation in a PC: USB Transmission cable ("Tacho SUB"), PC, installed software TachoScan, free USB port ATTENTION The USB Transmission cable is not supported by Windows 98, Millennium and older operating systems. Installation procedure: 1. Plug the transmission cable into the USB port of the PC. 2. The following window pops up (Fig.19). Choose the option "Install from a list or specific location" (pos.1 - Fig.19) and press the button [Next >] (pos.2 - Fig.19).

Plug the cable into the USB port of the PC. 2. Launch the TachoScan. in the menu bar press "Settings" -> "Program settings", in the window "Program settings" select the COM port (Fig.25) for the USB cable,

36 36 USB Transmission cable The figure in the section Transmission cable ->Installation indicates that the correct port name is COM4 (pos.2 - Fig.24). Click the drop down menu (pos.1 - Fig.25) to select the correct port (pos.2 - Fig.25). We advice against changing the "Transmission rate" (pos.3 - Fig.25). Leave the standard value "9600", please. Fig.25. "Program settings" Further configuration steps can be performed directly prior to the download. 3. Press the button. 4. The following download configuration window pops up (Fig.26):

If this box is checked the field "Range of dates" activates. Within this field you have the following time period settings available: (Pos.a - Fig.26) - last... days input a desired number of days you want to download (counting from the actual day backward), (Pos.b - Fig.26) - time period (from till) you can specify a required period of time, (Pos.c - Fig.26) - all check this box if you want to download activity data for all days saved in the mass memory of the tachograph, (Pos.3 - Fig.26) - Events and faults check this box to download information about events (e.g. Over speeding) and faults (e.g. Power supply interruptions), (Pos.4 - Fig.26) - Detailed speed data check this box to download speed details for the last 24 hours of driving time, Launch the download with the button [OK]. For the description of the download procedure see "USB Transmission cable" -> "Download procedure 39 ". Configuration settings for the FIRST download (example):

38 38 USB Transmission cable Fig.27. Configuration settings for the first download (example) Note that for the first download the position "all" under "Activities" (Fig.27) is checked. With default settings the download comprises detailed speed data. Remember that the tachograph stores the speed data only for the last 24 hours driving time. Configuration settings for the SUBSEQUENT download: Fig.28. Configuration settings (example) for subsequent downloads Note that for the subsequent download you need to check "time period (from - till)" (fig.3) for "Daily activities" (Fig.28). Under "from" you need to set the date of the previous download made from this particular tachograph. Under "till" you will automatically get the actual date.

39 Other devices - Tutorial - Pomoc Download procedure Requirements for a data download from digital tachograph: USB transmission cable, laptop with installed software TachoScan, company card, vehicle keys for the vehicle in question. Download procedure: 1. Turn the vehicle key in the position II (ignition) the control lamps on the instrument board flash (tachograph activation). ATTENTION We recommend to perform these operation together with the driver. 2. Insert the company card into the slot No. 1 or No The tachograph detects the card. Confirm the checkback Company lock yes/no. 4. Connect your PC to the tachograph using the USB transmission cable. Position of the interface within the tachograph - see tachograph manual. 5. Launch the software TachoScan. press the icon, a configuration window pops up. Press the button [OK] within this window, You can change the settings in the configuration dialog (see "USB Transmission cable" -> "Configuration ") before the download. the TachoScan starts the download. ATTENTION

40 40 USB Transmission cable If the window "Download in progress" (Fig.29) does not appear or pops off you can assume that the COM port setting is false (see "USB Transmission cable" -> "Configuration") or the USB transmission cable itself is not plugged correctly. Depending on the data volume the download can take up to about 1 hour time. Fig.29. "Download in progress" 6. After the download is completed you will see the window "General and technical data" (see "Help file for TachoScan"). ATTENTION Repeat the download, if the software signals a download fault. If the repeated download is not correct, perform a reference download on an another tachograph. If the last download is OK, the first tachograph might be out of order (contact tachograph service station). If the last download is faulty contact the service of the transmission cable manufacturer. Pull the transmission cable and the company card. Push the Reject button. You are asked: "Lock the tachograph?". It is useful to always lock the tachograph. Otherwise third party can download data from the tachograph and even lock it for its own company card (making it inaccessible for the owner) Transferring data files into PC The software TachoScan picks the data from the tachograph directly and transfers it into the PC. The TachoScan picks the data and performs the evaluation (the digital signature check as well). If the digital signature is valid, the data is saved to the data base and the original file copied into the PC (selected directory). The download file data will be presented in the "Daily view" (see: "Helpfile for TachoScan").
