2 ACADEMIC Plan high school courses 9,10,11,12 Beginning with seniors, each student will meet with the counselor to review transcripts and record courses in ECAP. Additionally, several teachers are revisiting this section of ECAP to update courses and monitor progress. 1. Get a copy of your most current transcripts. 2. Fill out the checklist at: /CoursePlanner/CP2_Main. aspx

3 CAREER Complete: Reality Check 9, 11 Freshmen completed reality check in their English classes. Juniors completed reality check in their social studies classes. 1. Complete the reality check. 2. 7 CAREER: Start a resume/review and update resume 9,10,11, 12 Resumes will be written in career explorations, revisited in career connections, and revised in program (fire or police). 1. 9 / CAREER Review college and career terms/vocabulary 9, 10 College and career terms will be examined first in career explorations and then again in career connections. Additionally, all freshmen participated in a college and career terms lesson in their English classes. 1. Locate the glossary on the home page of ECAP. 2. Keep track of vocabulary pertinent to your chosen/potential career. 3. Throughout the completion of this ECAP, you will be asked to write reports and reflections drawing upon this knowledge.

13 Attend a college fair 10,11,12 Students will have several opportunities to participate in a college fair. First, the counselor and the professional development specialist will create a list of on going college fairs and distribute these to students. Second, Franklin will host two parent/student Community Nights*, which will include representatives from colleges. Attend a college fair or visitation on campus or at another location or visit two campuses of your choice. Be sure to have a representative from the visit sign your checklist. Attend a career fair 10,11,12 Just as with the college fair, students will have several opportunities to participate in a career fair. First, the counselor and the professional development specialist will create a list of on going career fairs and distribute these to students. Second, Franklin will host two parent/student Community Nights*, which will include representatives from businesses looking to hire our students. Attend a Franklin Community Night, a career fair on campus, or at another location of your choice. Be sure to see your counselor for a listing of career fairs. Be sure to have a representative from the visit sign your checklist. Upload any documents you receive from the event into your ECAP.

14 Tour a college campus of interest 12 Three field trips will be scheduled to help students connect with colleges. See the counselor to register for a college visit. Upload any documents you receive from the event into your ECAP.

15 Create financial plan for future 11 Review financial plan for future 12 Juniors will review college costs, admission requirements and deadlines in their program classes (fire or police); Seniors will review college costs, admission requirements and deadlines in their program classes (fire or police); Additionally, two financial aid workshops will be offered, one in the evening and one on a Saturday morning, where students and their families will meet with college representatives to prepare financial aid paperwork. 1. Attend a financial aid workshop on campus or attend one on your own. Be sure to have a representative from the visit sign your checklist. 2. Go through Paying for School on ECAP /ViewHtmlWithNav.aspx?Fi le=aid/aidfaq100.htm 4. Discuss financial options with your parents. 5. Make an appointment to discuss options with your counselor 6. Check the website of your choice college(s) for other potential financial resources. NAU: ASU: cialaid UofA: Remember: do your FAFSA first, but many universities offer additional monies.

16 Apply for FAFSA 12 Again, two financial aid workshops will be offered, one in the evening and one on a Saturday morning, where students and their families will meet with college representatives to prepare financial aid paperwork. Additionally, counselor will meet one on one with every senior to ascertain that FAFSA paperwork has been completed. Also, April s field trip to Phoenix College will include a mini FAFSA workshop. 1. Get a copy of the FAFSA worksheet, either from your counselor or from: 2/help/ffdef44.htm 2. Collect all your required paperwork and complete the worksheet. 3. Make an appointment with your counselor to work on inputting the worksheet electronically or do this yourself at : CAREER/ Research (11 th ) and apply(12 th ) for scholarships, financial aid, work study or grants Counselor will meet one on one with every senior to ascertain that scholarship, grant and work study paperwork has been completed. Additionally, seniors completed a search for scholarships, financial aid, grants in their English classes. 1. Make an appointment to meet with your counselor to review scholarships and grants. DO NOT do this until you have received confirmation that your FAFSA has been received and determined.

17 CAREER/ Update personal information in AZCIS 10,11,12 Students will review their personal information in AZCIS and make updates in their career explorations, career connections classes and in their program classes (fire or police); Additionally, professional development specialist will run monthly reports to check for AZCIS updates/progress and run a rotating schedule during advisory on Wednesdays and Thursdays to provide students supplemental help on ECAP completion. 1. Go through My Education Career Action Plan and click through each section to make sure each section is complete /portfolio/portfolio_mainm enu.aspx 3. Make an appointment to meet either with counselor or with Ms. Bonfante to double check for completion. Be sure to get checklist signed off.
