1 CANADAYOUTH 2014 Youth Ministry Training Track Workshops Session #1 Tuesday 1:30 3:00 1. Preparing them for Face to Face Exploring Peer Ministry equipping youth to care for one another. An opportunity to explore how Peer Ministry affirms the gifts of young people and empowers them with the skills needed to minister to others. 2. Dealing with the Tough Stuff (Back by Popular Demand) The world of youth and young adults is very complicated. We need to be talking about self- harm, suicide, cyber- bullying, depression, eating disorders and bullying in the church. We need to offer safety, support and prayer through the tough stuff. There will be no magic answers in this workshop, but an opportunity for an open conversation about the difficult issues that are facing teenagers today. 3. You Can t Do It All Developing Volunteer Leaders for Youth Ministry Discover techniques for recruiting, training, and supporting adults and youth for volunteer leadership in your youth ministry program. We ll discuss the tools necessary to create the role descriptions that will assist these volunteers in knowing what they are being asked to do and will help you to recruit volunteers based on interests and gifts. 4. Youth Ministry 101 a two- session workshop This will offer the basics of youth ministry covering topics such as the role of the youth leader, youth culture, administration, Christian education with youth, working with volunteers and ministry staff, and available continuing education resources. The workshop is designed for new youth leaders with little to no experience but all are welcome.

Youth Ministry 101 a two- session workshop See #4 for description 6. ilead Reflecting on our community s use of media and social networking and how you as a youth leader can embrace new technologies faithfully. 7. Surveying the Land How do we help young people make sense of all the vocational choices they are presented with? God calls our youth. Do they know it? Can they hear it? How can we foster discernment in their lives? We will explore and practice ways to help youth hear and discern God s call for their lives. 8. Youth Ministry that Sticks Mainline (and other) churches are challenged with the reality that many of our own kids drop out of church as they get older. We wonder, What are the things that engage and retain young people in the life and work of the Church for the long run? Recent research may offer some clues into the factors that make faith stick into adulthood. Come and explore these findings and find some practical guidance for youth ministry in your context.

3 Session #3 Wednesday 1:30 3:00 9. When Face to Face is Just Not Possible Reaching out to those not there Learn ways to minister to young people while they are in transition. Helping youth make the shift from high school to beyond, and still stay connected to the church. 10. Making the World of Difference Want to ignite a passion for caring within your youth? Here are the why s and how s of getting youth excited about serving/mission projects, large and small. Find out how to select and engage youth in mission projects that matter. Lean the essentials for planning a mission experience for your youth. 11. Youth Ministry Online Exploring what resources are available online that can help you plan and prepare your ministry with youth and young adults. 12. 4 Session #4 Wednesday 3:15 4: You Can t Do It All Developing Volunteer Leaders for Youth Ministry Discover techniques for recruiting, training, and supporting adults and youth for volunteer leadership in your youth ministry program. My Budget is What??!! Youth ministry on a shoestring. Uncover programs and strategies that can be put into action with limited financial resources. 16. When Play is more than Just a Game Effectively using recreation and Godly- play to build community within your youth ministry program, your congregation and your community. 17. Creative Word Using the creative arts to discover and share the Word of God with young people.

5 Session #5 Friday 1:30 3: Development 101 Jesus clearly calls us to care for the poor and vulnerable, but how do we share this message with young people? Come discuss Biblical justice, learn about available resources for youth and brainstorm ways to get youth involved. This workshop will help leaders to talk to youth about our mission call and encourage youth in taking action. There is an opportunity for leaders to share positive actions they have taken to engage youth and openly discuss challenges. 19. Sacred Space Many times, we as leaders need to prepare prayer or worship for small groups or classes, and the sanctuary or chapel is not always available to us. How do you make a classroom, living room, or church basement a place where worship can happen well? Learn how to create an appropriate space in almost any setting. 20. Energy for the Journey An opportunity to spend some time at the CY Spirituality Centre just for you with special resources for self- care and education. 21.
