5 An Introduction to Contemporary Implant Prosthodontics Thursday 30th April London. Thursday 15th October Leeds. Speaker: Mr Anthony Summerwill Course Fee: VAT Contemporary implant dentistry is a prosthodontically directed modality and the aim of this course is to provide the delegate with the restorative fundamentals to optimise treatment outcomes. This one day course will: Focus on a systematic approach to patient care and will begin with patient selection and treatment planning issues before moving onto the technical aspects of prosthodontic care. The course will cover: Treatment planning and patient selection The design features of the BioHorizons implant and the implant / restorative interface Impression taking techniques The use of provisional restorations in implant dentistry Abutment selection and custom made abutments Occlusal concepts in implant prosthodontics Maintenance requirements Prosthodontic complications At the end of the course the participants will have: An understanding of a systematic approach to patient care right from patient selection and treatment planning issues through to the technical aspects of prosthodontic care. On completion delegates will receive a BioHorizons Prosthetic Kit at a value of 298
6 Sinus Elevation Wednesday 24th June Bracknell. Speaker: Dr Eugene Marais Course Fee: VAT The aim of this course is to educate delegates in the different techniques in augmenting the atrophic posterior maxilla. A one day course where delegates will: Learn the different techniques in augmenting the atrophic posterior maxilla. Different sinus lifting procedures will be studied such as the balloon technique as well as the lateral window approach. The objective of these procedures is to increase bone quantity and quality in order to place implants at a later stage. The course will address the following topics: Rationale Equipment requirements Diagnosis and radiology/ct scanning Materials Treatment planning, consent and risk Technique management Management of complications Relative anatomy Pharmacology Physiology of bone Presentation of case studies Keys to grafting building blocks in the Hands-on practical working graft process, e.g.bmps, TCP, PRGF, on models and using relevant CaOH etc. hand instruments At the end of the course the participants will have: An understanding of the rationale and techniques available to augment the posterior sinus to allow the placement of implants at a later stage.
7 Socket Preservation Thursday 19th February London. Speaker: Dr Anne O Donoghue Course Fee: VAT The aim of this course is to ensure delegates understand the concept of successful socket preservation; from patient and graft selection through to post operative care. A one day course where delegates will look at: The background of materials used in grafting, take part in a hands on with models and understand the use of instruments specifically designed for flap management. The course will cover: Anatomy -bone quality and quantity Resorption patterns post extraction Anatomical limitations and risks Consensus statements and treatment guidelines and outcomes Risk factors affecting the surgical risk and outcome Clinical examination and planning aids Methods of socket preservation - GBR principles and biomaterials selection Post-operative care Provisional prosthesis Patient selection At the end of the course the participants will have: A full understanding of what they need to consider prior, during and after socket preservation treatment.
8 Dental Implant Nurse Training Saturday 28th February London. Saturday 13th June Cardiff. Saturday 5th September Leeds. Speaker: Ms Kasia Zawada Course Fee: 99 + VAT The aim of this course is to increase the delegates understanding of dental implantology. This course will provide: Dental nurses with the knowledge and understanding of the dental implant therapy and aseptic technique in implant dentistry required to provide the dentist and the patient with comprehensive pre, intra and post-operative dental nurse assistance for this procedure.this comprehensive one day course combines hands on exercises with lectures to really instil knowledge and confidence in dental nurses regarding all aspects of dental implant surgery. Key Topics: Overview of implants Patient selection and consultation process Components needed for surgery Surgical instrumentation and equipment Placing an implant and drilling techniques Patient Care Assisting the dentist and expectations Asepsis Technique from set up to post surgery Cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation post-surgery At the end of the course the participants will have: More knowledge of dental implantology; right from patient selection through to sterilisation post-surgery and the dental nurse s role in assisting this treatment option.
9 Extraction Socket Grafting and Ridge Augmentation Wednesday 4th March Birmingham. Speaker: Dr Eugene Marais Course Fee: VAT The aim of this course is to teach delegates concepts in the maintenance and preservation of the edentulous ridge; with a view to providing an implant solution. Delegates will learn the importance of atraumatic extractions to preserve the bony wall of the socket. A one day course where delegates will: Learn the concepts of atraumatic extraction of tooth/roots to preserve bone combined with grafting and soft tissue management. Maintenance and preservation of the edentulous ridge is also considered, with a view to delayed placement of implants. Grafting techniques using bone graft substitutes (BGS) and membranes to preserve and maintain the crestal ridge will be considered. In the edentulous ridge, mapping techniques combined with interpreting radiographs and CT scans will allow delegates to determine ridge width. Graft placement using particulate and block grafts as well as autogenous bone harvesting techniques will be studied. In all cases, delegates will practice these procedures with a hands-on workshop. At the end of the course the participants will have: An understanding of the concepts of socket preservation using atraumatic techniques. Where an edentulous ridge case presents, they will have the diagnostic skills to assess alveolar ridge width. The use of BGS and collagen membranes as well as alternative augmentation techniques for crestal and ridge preservation will be understood, so allowing for a predictable aesthetic implant outcome.
