2 Background The European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) has a long-standing commitment to dental education. The association s aim is to improve the quality of patient care by bridging the gap between science and clinical practice. In 2010, the EAO launched its Certificate in Implant-based Therapy. This was established to recognise the skills and expertise of dentists practising in this field. It is the first and only Europewide standardised assessment of skills and expertise within implant-based therapy. The EAO s Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry complements the Certification Programme and provides an additional service to EAO members and the wider dental community. It also provides a direct route enabling potential certification candidates to prepare for the Certificate in Implant-based Therapy. 4 How do I apply and what are the costs? To register your interest in the EAO Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry or to apply for a place on the course, please info@eao.org. The total cost of the programme per participant is 19,350 ( 3,230 per module). The price includes online preparation through elearning, Live Learning Events (LLEs) and online mentoring/preparation for each of the six modules. Payment arrangements are currently being confirmed. Arrangements are likely to require payment of 50% of the cost at the outset of the programme, with the remaining 50% payable one year later. The admission criteria are a dental degree and a period of at least a two years of practising clinical dentistry. All six modules must be completed to receive the recognition. Participants who have completed the whole programme will receive the EAO Postgraduate Diploma in Implant- Based Therapy. As well as being an extremely valuable standalone programme, it provides an alternative/additional pathway to the EAO s Certificate in Implant-based Therapy.

5 Each mentor will provide feedback on the quality of preparation and work during the sessions. Your own expert mentor Each EAO Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry participant is mentored by an expert clinician on a one-to-one basis or in groups. You choose the approach which suits you best. Each mentor tutors a group of five students at most. Mentoring sessions take place by teleconference, enabling participants in different locations to all take part simultaneously. Together with your mentor, you agree on the approach and style of tuition. Group sessions are recommended as you are likely to have challenges and questions in common with your peers. Mentoring sessions are structured around clinical cases that you are expected to perform between each module. Discussion and feedback on these cases forms a key element of the interactive learning experience. Each student will have at least three sessions with his/her mentor. One-to-one sessions last approximately 30 minutes. Group sessions may last longer, depending on the number of participants. In total, each group of participants will receive approximately eight hours of mentoring. During the sessions, mentors will provide feedback on the quality of your preparation and work. Mentors are allocated to each student group for the duration of a module. The teachers in each module act as mentors for the online mentoring in the post-preparation period. As each mentor is only allocated for a six month period until the next module starts, it is unlikely mentors will change. If a change in mentorship is unavoidable, students may swap between the mentor groups. Individual one-to-one sessions can be arranged with a mentor if a group session is missed. Apply online at

6 A unique learning platform at your fingertips The EAO Classroom the programme s elearning platform contains all the content required for the course. This includes preparation materials for each module and debriefing materials for use after the LLE for each module. The elearning resources include a series of videos and discussions relating to completed case plans. You will also be able to view lecture materials and videos of clinical procedures, as well as accessing selected scientific literature. Access to the platform will be provided shortly after subscription to the programme. The pass mark is 60% of questions answered correctly. A failed assessment can be repeated after a period of 24 hours.
