1 Southern University and A&M College Office of Academic Affairs Gears Up for Summer Youth Camps Parents, are you searching for exciting activities for your children this summer? Look no further!! Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge is the place. From sports to theatre, to academic enrichment, SUBR s summer camps offer something for everyone. Hundreds of school children swarm the SUBR campus each summer, signifying the start of the University s numerous youth camps. This year, SUBR will offer a variety of academic, sports, fitness and self-enrichment camps for area youths.

4 Jaguar Kids College Summer Program Sponsored by the Division of Continuing Education Southern University's Division of Continuing Education is hosting the 14 th Annual College Summer Program "2015 Jaguars Kid's Camp," on June 1-July 16, on the Baton Rouge campus. The summer enrichment program is designed for campers ages 5 to 12 and will be held Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost of the camp is $560 for the entire summer session. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. A discount is available for multiple campers from the same household Hello Parents!!! Happy New Year! Hoping this finds you and our camper(s) doing very well. The year is already quickly passing and SUMMER TIME!!!!! will be here soon! Attached you will find a copy of the 2015 Jaguar Kids Summer College Program brochure/registration form. The camp is open to youths (boys and girls) from the ages of 12year old and up. All applicants must present proof of recent physical examination and should provide parental consent. 7 Skills Enhancement Academy (S.E.A.) - Summer Program Southern University and A&M College Baton Rouge, LA Duration: 4 Weeks Orientation: Saturday, May 30th Summer Dates: June 1, 2015 June 26, 2015 *Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Description: Skills Enhancement Academy (SEA) is a four week non-residential program that focuses on Reading, English Language Arts and Mathematics for students in Grades K-5. The program is held on the SU Campus at the Mini-Lab (Old Financial Aid Building location subject to change). S.E.A. offers educational enrichment aligning with the common core state standards helping students to close the academic achievement gap by continuing the learning process in the summer term. The enrollment for SEA, per summer is 75 students. The Math and Reading components are coordinated by an experienced, accomplished and certified educator. Criteria: Participants must be entering K 5th grade in the fall. Students selected to participate must have been successfully promoted to their next grade level and demonstrate exemplary behavior. Please read all details at (available March 30th). Cost: $85 Per Week and one-time $40 Registration Fee (Payments must be done online by May 8th). Monies received are non-refundable and non-transferable. 10 THE UPWARD BOUND MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE PROGRAM Duration: Year-round. Summer Starting: Date: June 1, 2015 Description: The Upward Bound Mathematics and Science Program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in the STEM disciplines and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in related areas. Program services include: a summer program with intensive math and science training; yearround counseling and advisement; exposure to university faculty members who do research in mathematics and the sciences; computer training; and participant-conducted scientific research under the guidance of faculty members or graduate students, who are serving as mentors. Other Services: Instruction in reading, writing, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success in education beyond high school Academic, financial, or personal counseling Exposure to academic programs and cultural events Tutorial services Mentoring programs Information on postsecondary education preparation All Upward Bound projects MUST provide instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language. Criteria: Cost: The Upward Bound Mathematics and Science Program selects potential participants from the 9 th and 10 th grade. Selected students must attend one of the Upward Bound Mathematics and Science Program s targeted schools and meet guidelines established by the United States Department of Education Federal TRIO Programs. The target high schools for this program are Glen Oaks High, Plaquemine High, and Scotlandville High. No cost for academic services. 11 Program Name: Engineering Summer Institute (ESI) Dates: June 8-July 2, 2015 Description: The Engineering Summer Institute (ESI) seeks to expose students to career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The goal of ESI is to broaden the access of students to these careers by exposing them to available options in an environment that facilitates intellectual exchange, academic enrichment, and fosters the learning, sharing, and growing processes. ESI offers the program for high school students. Criteria: Cost: Students promoted to grades 9 through 12 with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale are eligible. They must submit an official transcript, standardized test scores, a letter of recommendation from a current math or science teacher, and a 250 word essay. $400 non-refundable registration fee Contact: Janifer B. 12 BEGINNING AGRICULTURAL YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED (BAYOU) Duration: Three Weeks: June 7 June 26, 2015 Description: Criteria: Cost: This program is designed to provide students with a greater awareness of the exiting, challenging, and rewarding career opportunities that exists with a degree in agricultural and environmental sciences or family and consumer sciences. Participants spend the three weeks being oriented to the career paths offered by the seven instructional programs in the college. This program s objectives are to initiate great career opportunities for the students and increase the number of students declaring an interest in the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences. High school students completing the 11th grade minimum GPA 2.5; Spring 2015 graduating seniors ACT (SAT equivalent) composite score of 20 and above, or high school GPA of 2.5 or greater, or rank in the top 50% of high school graduating class and require no more than one remedial course. Currently enrolled Southern University students must be in good standing with the university and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. All applicants must be interested in agricultural sciences, consumer sciences, business or science. There is no cost to the student.
