RADAR-LIDAR CPR-First AID Crisis Intervention Training Patty Villa or pvilla@gwc.cccd.edu Pre-Academy Physical Fitness CJ G units 6 weeks 27 hours Pre-Academy Physical Fitness Course is designed to prepare students for the physical aspects of the police academy course approved by the California Commission on Peace Officer's Standards and Training (POST). Students will perform various physical exercises including the POST-mandated physical agility test (99-yard agility run, body drag, six-foot solid wall, six-foot chain link fence & 500-yard run), cardiovascular endurance exercises, and various calisthenics. Proper body mechanics, techniques, and conditioning principles will be applied with an emphasis on proper nutrition and injury prevention. 2 Orientation, Police Academy, Regular Basic Course CJ G054 2 units This course is designed to familiarize the student with the police academy training program and may be taken 4 times. Credit/no credit only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only. For information and a specific schedule of dates and times, please contact the academy office or Cindy Onusz: conusz@gwc.cccd.edu Police Academy - Regular Basic Course (RBC) CJ G units POST certified Pre-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G054AD (Orientation/Police Academy - see above) Co-requisites: Criminal Justice CJ G065 (Physical Fitness/Police Academy) This course provides the fundamentals of basic police training in compliance with the minimum standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The training includes community based policing concepts, techniques, and observation of application. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only. Prerequisite: P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate. Orientation: January 21, 2014 Wednesday 9:00-10:30 a.m. Participants must attend ALL meetings. Dates: 1/28-2/11 2/25 3/11 3/25 4/ Class meets Wednesdays from: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Dispatch Supervisor Course (Pre-requisite)* Fall (December) 2015 Contract Education No college credit 2 weeks 80 Hours POST Certified Cost: $350 This 80 hour P.O.S.T. certified Supervisor Course (Plan IV) has been specifically developed for the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor. The course represents an excellent foundation for supervisors, regardless of length of service. 4 * Pre-requisite: Participants must be currently employed as a Dispatch Supervisor in a professional dispatch environment Public Safety Dispatcher Course (911 Operator) INTENSIVE COURSE (PRE-REQUISITE*) CJ G units 3 weeks 120 Hours POST Certified This course provides specialized training in basic communication functions as they relate to the objectives of a public safety/dispatch office as well as basic emergency/non-emergency law enforcement telecommunications skills. * Pre-requisite: Participants must be currently employed or have prior experience in a professional dispatch environment: March 2, March 20, 2015 Mon Fri Public Safety Dispatcher Course (911 Operator) EVENING EXTENDED COURSE (NO PRE-REQUISITE) CJ G units 15 weeks 120 Hours POST Certified This course provides specialized training in basic communication functions as they relate to the objectives of a public safety/dispatch office as well as basic emergency/non-emergency law enforcement telecommunications skills. February 3 May 14, 2015 Tue and Thu evenings 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Reserve Coordinator Course TBA CJ G units 3 days 24 Hours POST Certified This course is designed to address contemporary training needs of law enforcement reserve coordinators by providing new techniques for managing reserve peace officer organizations. Prerequisite: P.O.S.T. Advanced Certificate. April 13 24, 2015 Mon Fri Contact Cici Clausen at (714) or cclausen@gwc.cccd.edu Specialized Investigators Basic Course (SIBC) Contract Education No college credit 15 weeks POST Certified Basic knowledge and skills in compliance with minimum standards to meet requirements established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) for persons serving as Specialized Investigators in the State of California. Includes both physical and academic standards for successful completion. Letter grade only. Not transferable, AA/AS degree only. This class is offered as a Contract Education class and does not carry college credit units. Attendance is by permission only.
