5 Our commitment. Enhancing our country s strengths. Challenges for Germany Benefits of a good education system Equal opportunity and support right from the start, regardless of family background Participation in social and economic development Reinforcing people s individual skills Innovation, growth and prosperity Demographic change Growing shortage of engineers and scientists Low participation of women in innovation activities Growing competition from emerging countries in Asia
6 Our conviction. Investing in minds. We are investing in education in Germany because smart minds are the key to greater innovation. We want our commitment towards the education system in Germany to enhance our country s strengths and help it to continue to be or become a leader in the key future areas of education, science, research and technology. We are focusing our efforts on the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. A solid grounding in these subjects is an important precondition for participation in society. We are striving to build a positive public attitude towards the areas of science, research and innovation as an essential requirement for a society with a future.
7 Our work. Covering the whole education chain. We have the whole education chain in our sights from pre-school to university when deciding on our projects. We have set our focus on promoting the STEM subjects, from basic to the most advanced level. We collaborate with partners from educational institutions and the educational administration nationwide and independently of federal jurisdictions. We cannot do the work of the public authorities, but we can generate models that are practical and fit for purpose and provide positive impulses for the educational landscape in Germany. We work operatively, mostly implementing projects that fall within one of five specific program areas:
8 Our fields of action. Five causes. Teacher Training. Projects for the initial & continuing training of teachers Early Education. Projects for preelementary education and the transition phase Talent Development. Projects to support highly talented STEM students Classes & More.
