20 BRIEF ENERGY MMU ENERGY TARGETS: target total energy consumption of 150 kwh per Square Meter per annum (including all small power) given standard building operating hours of 3775 hours per annum. excluding catering. MMU RENEWABLE TARGETS: LZC technologies must be commercially accessed to provide a potential minimum of 10% of the building design energy. MMU BREEAM TARGET: Excellent Breakdown of potential energy use MANCHESTER CITY COUNCIL PLANNING TARGETS: BREEAM Excellent and 20% Renewable Energy usage

21 ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AN EVALUATION OF RENEWABLES Comparison of C02 savings for each technology With a ground water draw-off of 20l/s, the GSHP ground cooling will offset energy demand by 13%

22 DISPLACEMENT VENTILATION - Low energy solution free cooling for most of year and provide opportunity to utilise exposed structure - Return air via atrium for heat recovery - Good air quality - This strategy is currently proposed for most functional areas including seminar rooms, offices and IT rooms - Local control with motorised dampers to reduce fan energy

23 INTEGRATED SLAB COOLING - - Structural conditioning to provide base cooling demand of approximately 50-80W/m In conjunction with displacement ventilation, slab cooling will meet cooling demand in seminar rooms. Active cooling during occupied periods Active pre-cooling of slabs at Night activated thermal mass

48 Moving Day Some Administrators April Academics and admin May Used weekend to move: i.e. packed up on Friday hand key in Pick up key and go to new building office Monday Only 9 creates per person ( 1 week before and only 1 week after) Special approach for exam scripts

49 Celebrating the Move: The Celebratory Tone Welcome pack from Dean High profile welcome/alumni evening Informal welcome drink at local pub Acknowledgements and congratulations

50 Problems in the new building Swipe cards not working Equipment (but had IT services in special uniform around the floors on the move-in day) Teething problems with hot taps, flooring, heating, doors, noise, ETC

52 How did the move go??? Everyone very settled very quickly Staff on academic floors started to talk more and join together at the social areas Administrative staff felt comfortable in their new surroundings An atmosphere of strong harmony Business continuity
