London Bridge Hospital has an extremely low infection rate. COMFORT DURING YOUR STAY Naturally, we are committed to the wellbeing and care of our patients. We will strive to make any stay, however long, relaxing and comfortable. You ll be cared for by a friendly and professional team including your Consultant, specialist nurses and our resident medical officer who is available 24 hours a day. Day Case what to expect during your stay Waiting time: Although you will have been given a provisional time for surgery, the order of the operating list is not confirmed by the surgeon until the day of admission. On the day of your procedure, you should expect to spend a minimum of 4-5 hours with us. Privacy and single-sex accommodation: In the Day Surgery Unit, all rooms accommodate two to four patients and are single-sexed. The beds are separated by curtains to provide some privacy. If you would like to discuss your treatment in a more private place, please ask the nurse assigned to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions that you wish to discuss with a nurse prior to your admission. The nurses can be contacted on Overnight Our appointed rooms include air-conditioning, en suite bathroom and shower, with many overlooking the River Thames. Each bedroom has TV, satellite channels, a free premium movie service and Nurse Call System. We can arrange daily newspapers, magazines and a number of other services including an internet facility and refrigerator. Please note, we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated a room with a riverside view. Rooms are allocated on a clinical needs basis. Our chefs provide a great offering of freshly cooked meals available throughout the day from our À La Carte and Room Service menus. The Catering Department can cater for special diets while our dietitians are available to recommend the dishes that are most appropriate for you. We have significant experience in meeting the cultural needs of patients from many countries. Our International Department can provide interpreters who can explain medical terms and provide assistance with anything you may need during your stay at London Bridge Hospital. Visiting times for patients are flexible, with family and friends welcome at any time up to 10.00pm.

Cardiothoracic and Cardiology Units Our Cardiothoracic and Cardiology Units are first-class facilities staffed by a holistic team comprising cardiothoracic and cardiology nurse specialists, cardiac technicians, dietitians, physiotherapists and pharmacists. The Cardiothoracic Unit is also supported by the Critical Care Resident Medical Officer, who provides 24-hour cover. Our Consultants are from the top teaching hospitals in London, including Guy s and St Thomas, King s College and St Bartholomew's Hospitals. The Specialist Cardiology Unit, one of the largest facilities in the UK, provides innovative services and enables us to offer all traditional cardiology procedures as well as ablation for atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy for heart failure. CRITICAL CARE UNIT London Bridge Hospital delivers a full range of tertiary care for patients. Our highly specialised Critical Care Unit allows us to achieve an unrivalled level of acute care and support for medical cases, complex surgical patients and multi-organ failure. The Critical Care Unit includes ITU and HDU beds to support major surgical procedures using state-of-the-art equipment and top Consultants from London teaching hospitals, supported by highly qualified resident staff available at all times, including overnight and weekends. Day Care Unit Our Day Care Unit is situated within the main building and St Olaf House giving us flexibility to care for a wide range of specialties. Our team is highly rated by our patients and Consultants for its commitment to efficient, professional and excellent care. The Unit comprises an operating theatre capable of delivering procedures on an extensive scale including complex surgery. The ward has a shared area which allows us to be efficient in delivering care to you, and also means we are able to monitor you closely following your procedure. Dietetics London Bridge Hospital has a committed team of highly experienced dietitians with a wide range of specialist skills. Diet and nutrition are an integral part of preventing disease and maintaining optimum health. When you are recovering from surgery or are ill, you may require a diet tailored to your specific needs. After a comprehensive initial assessment to establish your nutritional requirements, your dietitian will recommend a personalised course of treatment. Your progress will be reviewed regularly to help optimise your nutritional wellbeing, aid your recovery process, control your symptoms and enhance your quality of life. The dietitians work co-operatively with the multidisciplinary team to integrate your nutritional goals into your overall care plan. In addition to the inpatient dietetic service, daily outpatient clinics based at London Bridge Hospital are also available. It is a state-of-the-art facility which is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic gastro-intestinal endoscopies plus bronchoscopies. With Consultants who are experts in their field, we provide care of the highest quality. In addition to standard endoscopic procedures, we are able to offer additional diagnostic services such as Bravo, Conventional and High Resolution Oesophageal Manometry, Video Capsule Endoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS).

6 WORLD-CLASS DOCTORS AND SURGEONS OUR SERVICES Oncology Unit Situated in comfortable surroundings, our Oncology Unit provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and day case services. The Unit specialises in medical and surgical oncology, particularly breast and maxillofacial, diagnostic and interventional radiology and our nurses are specially trained to care for cancer patients. Patients requiring day case chemotherapy are cared for in the Chemotherapy Day Unit, which also has two fully equipped consulting rooms for outpatients. As part of our holistic caring approach, we have a full range of traditional services and complementary therapies. Pathology Department The on-site laboratory, complete with cutting edge instrumentation and computerisation, provides blood tranfusions and a range of testing facilities, including biochemistry and haematology. Pharmacy Department The department provides a pharmaceutical service to patients, nurses and Consultants, including inpatient prescriptions, private outpatient prescriptions, cytotoxic reconstitution and discharge medication counselling. PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT London Bridge Hospital has a committed team of highly experienced Chartered and State Registered Physiotherapists with a wide range of specialist skills. In addition to our inpatient physiotherapy services, the Physiotherapy Department is based at London Bridge Hospital and also located off site at 37º, a nearby fitness centre, providing holistic treatment through physio-led sessions. We provide a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of the problem, followed by a course of treatment tailored to your specific needs. At the same time, we ll work with you to design a programme of home exercise to ensure your continued recovery. The Haemodialysis Unit is led by a full-time renal physician, who is supported by visiting renal physicians and a fully trained nursing team. In addition to providing facilities for patients with chronic conditions requiring emergency treatment, the Unit runs an out-of-hours emergency on-call service to cover any need for acute dialysis in the Intensive Care Unit. London Bridge Hospital also offers dialysis and treatment for a variety of conditions to overseas patients coming to London on holiday or business. THE LONDON LUPUS CENTRE London Bridge Hospital Lupus Centre, which is located in St Olaf House, has a team of Consultants and state-of-the-art facilities. Professor Graham Hughes, the UK s leading Lupus Consultant, founded the St Thomas Lupus Trust and the Hughes Syndrome Foundation and is Head of this specialist Unit. The Unit was established specifically to accommodate Lupus patients in a friendly, reassuring environment and provides the very best treatment supported by the hospital including haematology, pathology, and counselling services, as well as all inpatient facilities.

Imaging Our Imaging Department provides a wide range of diagnostic services to help determine the best possible treatment options, such as MRI (including three 1.5 Magnets and a dedicated Extremity Magnet), Digital Mammography, 64 Slice CT Scanning, Bone Densitometry and Nuclear Medicine. Theatre Facilities London Bridge Hospital theatres are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for our surgeons to perform a large array of minimal and complex procedures such as cardiothoracic surgery, minimally invasive urological, thoracic and general surgery. GreenLight Laser London Bridge Hospital was the first private hospital in the UK equipped with the GreenLight HPS (High Performance System), the latest technology for benign swelling of the prostate and to relieve the obstruction of a prostate cancer. The GreenLight laser procedure is non-invasive and involves a telescope being passed into the bladder for examination. Following this, the obstructing prostate tissue is vaporised using high-powered laser relieving the obstacle responsible for urinary problems. The benefits include reduced bleeding, hospital stay and recovery time and minimal side effects. Blue Light Cystoscopy A technique that dramatically improves the ability to see bladder tumours, allowing more complete surgical treatment, potentially reducing the recurrence rate of bladder cancer. Blue Light Cystoscopy has the additional benefit of no side effects.

Comprised of clinicians from the Institute of Liver Studies, King s College Hospital, London, the team offers a portfolio of excellence in liver transplantation, hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and hepatology. The team has unique experience in all modalities of liver transplantation, including living donor liver transplantation. The aim of the group is to provide a comprehensive clinical programme with an integrated investigation and treatment service for all types of acute and chronic liver disease. Routine and emergency cases are accepted to the core services of liver transplantation, liver intensive care and general hepatology in outpatient and inpatient settings. 24-hour Remote Tape Our new 24-hour remote ECG monitoring system provides a rapid, accurate diagnosis allowing fast-track delivery of optimal patient treatment. A discrete patient monitor captures ECG data over a 24-hour period and enables the GP to send the report electronically to us for reporting. We are able to report on the data immediately and the results are returned within 24 hours. Video Capsule endoscopy The patient swallows a small capsule, usually after an overnight fast. This capsule consists of a camera, a light source and a wireless circuit for the acquisition and transmission of signals. As the capsule moves through the gastrointestinal tract, images are transmitted to a data recorder, worn on a belt outside the body. This data is transferred to a computer for interpretation.
