1 How to Use the Yellow Machine Appliance in a Windows 2000/2003 Server Environment This procedure is for software versions 2.91 and 2.92 Overview This document will help you to configure the Yellow Machine appliance to work properly in a Windows 2000/2003 Server environment. A Windows 2000/2003 server can be configured in one of three modes: Workgroup mode, Mixed mode, or Native mode. Following is a description of each of the modes and steps on how to configure the Yellow Machine appliance to work with each one. NOTE: Authentication services (for example, Domain Controller (PDC/BDC) or Active Directory (AD)) of the Windows 2000/2003 Server domain network environment are not supported in this version of the Yellow Machine appliance. Topics Covered Workgroup Mode Mixed Mode Native Mode Workgroup Mode In Workgroup mode, the Windows 2000/2003 server is configured as a member server in a workgroup and is not acting as a Domain controller. This means that from the viewpoint of the Yellow Machine appliance, it is just another system on the network. First, confirm that the Yellow Machine appliance is in the same workgroup as the Windows 2000/2003 server. 1. From the Windows server go to Start->Control Panel->System and select the Computer Name Tab. The System Properties Dialog Box will appear as shown below: Anthology Solutions, Inc.

2 Figure 1 System Properties Dialog Box Computer Name Setting The entry next to Workgroup: is your Workgroup name. Write down the name just as it appears. (The example in Figure 1 shows the Window Server s workgroup name is WORKGROUP.) 2. Log into the Yellow Machine appliance and click Advanced Settings. 3. 3 On the right side of the screen you will see the Workgroup listing with the name of your current workgroup next to it. (The example in Figure 2 shows the Workgroup name for the appliance is currently WORKGROUP.) If the Workgroup setting is the same as it is for the Windows Server, your workgroup settings are correct. If the Workgroup setting is different than the Windows Server you will need to change it so that it matches. 1. Click Edit. (Located under the Workgroup Name window. See Figure 2). The Edit Windows Network Global Options window will appear as shown below: Figure 3 Edit Workgroup Name 2. Change the Workgroup name to be the same as the Workgroup for the Windows Server 3. Click Apply to save your changes. NOTE: In Workgroup mode you can also use the Yellow Machine appliance s backup functions. If you change access rights to the directories on either the Windows Server or on a PC client, you must create a user name and password on the Yellow Machine appliance that matches that on the Windows PC. See Section 4.7 in the User s Manual for further information on auto back-up. Mixed Mode and Native Mode When configured in either Mixed or Native mode, the Windows 2000/2003 server is acting as a Domain Controller. This means that the Workgroup setting for the Yellow Machine appliance must match the Domain name of the server. To set the Yellow Machine appliance to the same Workgroup/Domain name of the Windows 2000/2003 server: 1. From the Windows server go to Start->Control Panel->System and select the Computer Name Tab. 4 Figure 4 System Properties Dialog Box Computer Name Setting In the entry next to Domain: you will see a name similar to that shown above in Figure 4, where the domain name is 2003domain.server2003.genesis.com. To properly configure the appliance, you must use the first section of this Domain name as your Workgroup name for the appliance. In the example above, it would be 2003domain. 2. Log into the Yellow Machine appliance and click Advanced Settings. 3. Go to Storage -> Quick Network Storage. 5 On the right side of the screen you will see the Workgroup listing with the name of your current Workgroup next to it. (The example in Figure 5 shows the Workgroup name for the appliance is currently WORKGROUP.) 4. Click Edit. (Located under the Workgroup Name window. See Figure 5). Change the Workgroup name to match the first portion of the Domain name from the Windows Server as shown above. 6. Click Apply to save your changes. NOTE: In Mixed and Native modes, Windows user accounts reside in Active Directory. To access the Yellow Machine appliance s resources, you must create user accounts on the appliance that match those in Active Directory on the Windows server. See Windows 2000/2003 documentation for creating Active Directory user accounts. IMPORTANT: With this version of the appliance, in Windows Server Mixed or Native modes you will not be able to use the Yellow Machine appliance s backup functions Anthology Solutions, Inc.
