We are one of the pre-eminent day and boarding sixth form colleges in London, attracting students locally and from all around the world. Chelsea successfully combines a challenging academic environment with student led extra-curricular programmes. We achieve this by providing An individually tailored teaching programme A dedicated personal tutor for every student Small classes with an interactive and engaging learning environment, which allow teachers to focus on each individual student and carefully monitor academic progression Academic profiling using Durham University s ALIS/YELLIS performance predictors Regular exam practice with detailed feedback and advice on how to successfully prepare for the final examinations Examination Practice Papers Our system of Examination Practice Papers (EPPs) gives students the opportunity to sit frequent practice exams using questions from past papers. This regular experience of sitting exams builds confidence and an understanding of the exam process, and is crucial to ensuring success in the end-of-year exams. It also offers teachers a chance to keep track of their students performance. Tutor Notes We believe that time in the classroom should be spent exploring the subject area to gain a true insight and synoptic understanding of the current syllabus. We work with our students to help them understand the whys and to give them the skills and tools to be able to solve problems as well as preparing them fully for public examinations. Average class size of 7 students Students are provided with a full, comprehensive and concise set of notes for each of their subjects throughout the year which correspond to examination specifications which guide students through their learning journey. Teaching and learning in the classroom is focussed on active engagement and developing the skills of young people. The completely renovated Main Building and Broadway House, opened in 2013, are located close to the well connected Fulham Broadway Underground Station on the District Line, meaning our students can be in the popular areas of South Kensington, Westminster and Piccadilly in less than 20 minutes, and can easily access all areas of the city beyond. The accommodation is located centrally so it s easy to catch the tube or bus and there are plenty of activities to get involved in Katharina from Germany Boarding Our student residences, Fulham Palace Studios and Pure Hammersmith offer state-of-the-art facilities creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable boarding experience in the heart of London. Pure Hammersmith We understand the importance of providing a friendly and peaceful home for every student that studies with us. The health and happiness of our students is paramount, and we pride ourselves on offering not only state-of-the-art boarding facilities, but also a high level of pastoral care. Our Boarding Supervisors live in Fulham Palace Studios and are on hand 24/7 to help with any students needs or concerns. They also arrange many exciting weekend and evening social activities throughout the year. All boarders are provided with electronic key cards which permit entry only for our students, and there is CCTV in communal areas. All our boarding houses are only a short distance from the College, which is reachable in under 15 minutes travelling time. Pure Hammersmith gym Our accommodation for students under 18 offers a range of boarding options with both single and shared rooms available. All rooms are contemporary and light, and have in-built storage and desks for studying. Each comes with a modern en-suite bathroom and basic kitchen facilities, though all meals are provided at the College. Pure Hammersmith cinema room Pure Hammersmith is located just 2 minutes walk from Hammersmith station making it very accessible for students to reach the College and access many other parts of London. This accommodation block, (new for 2015) boasts very impressive, modern spacious rooms and communal areas along with state-of-the-art gym facilities and a cinema room. This exclusive over 18s facility allows students to experience a little bit more independence in their living environment which is often very useful preparation for university living. Before you leave Once you have accepted your offer to study at Chelsea Independent College, we will send you an informative pre-arrival pack which details everything you need to know in order to prepare for college life. The pack includes essential information and guidance on what you need to pack, what to expect from living in England s capital, and advice on bringing money into the country. We can arrange your airport pick up for you to ensure that you arrive at our boarding house hassle-free. On arrival Our friendly boarding house staff will be there to greet you on arrival and help you settle in to your new room. On your first day at the College you will participate in an induction and orientation programme when you will be issued with your BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) and given an insight into College life. We will help you to register with the police and a doctor, give you a useful guide on how to use the public transport system, provide assistance with opening a UK bank account and making an application for an International Student Card. We will also confirm your chosen subjects and you will be provided with your course timetable the following day. Your College Education Each student is assigned a personal tutor. Your tutor is there to monitor your academic progress and together you will set up academic goals for the term. Students and tutors meet on a weekly basis giving students plenty of opportunity to discuss any issues or concerns that they may have. We have an open door policy in our staff room, where students are able to find and ask subject teachers specific questions at any time

For some students this might mean a highly academic course of study whilst for others their preference is for fashion, art or media. Matthew Sharpe, Head of Maths The tutor system at Chelsea is very useful, especially during UCAS time. I was very confident about the quality and knowledge of the teaching staff. They were very easy to approach and addressed any concerns even if they were outside the syllabus. She trained as a teacher before embarking on a MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice at Leeds Metropolitan University and taught A-levels in Art, Photography and Graphics, at the same time as successfully pursuing her own art career. Marina has had many exhibitions of her work and one of her art pieces was featured by Catherine Mason as Computer Art image of the month in The Chartered Institute for IT. The teachers at Chelsea have helped me build up my subject knowledge as well as instilling enthusiasm for my studies. They encouraged us all to work hard and gave lots of useful advice for the UCAS application process. David Bright, Head of Sixth Form The teachers always took the time to explain topics thoroughly and gave us really comprehensive revision notes. Revision classes are available and teachers always provided tips to improve my exam techniques, which proved to be extremely helpful. 13 GCSE 8 average class size 100% progression to A-Levels in 2014 Preparing for University success Universities primarily look for excellent A-Level results when making admissions decisions, however in recent years it has become increasingly important for applicants to also demonstrate top GCSE results. Our A* A percentage is double the national average and, in 2014, 100% of our GCSE students progressed to study A-Levels; a remarkable achievement considering that a number of our students undertake their GCSEs in just one year. Our unique approach to teaching and learning encourages independent study, engagement with the subject and a desire to excel. We ensure that our students are fully prepared to progress on to further education and the demands of A-Level study. Year 10 & 11 The two-year GCSE programme is an ideal choice for students wanting to explore subjects that they have not previously studied. Alongside the 5 core subjects, students will select 3 further optional subjects for a total of up to 8 GCSEs. Students can select from our extensive course list which includes subjects ranging from ICT to Photography. Students enrolling in Year 10 should be under 16 years old. One Year Humanities Pathway This one-year pathway is aimed at students interested in Humanities or the Arts, and is particularly helpful for students interested in studying Business, Finance, Law or Psychology at university. Students will study up to 4 core subjects and choose 2 optional subjects for a total of up to 6 GCSEs. Students should be 15+ years old at the start of the programme. One Year Science Pathway Our one-year science pathway allows students who excel in the Sciences or are committed to a career in Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Science or Engineering to study the 3 science GCSEs in just one year. 15 Medical Programme Chelsea Independent College offers an excellent Medical Programme specialising in mentoring students who wish to work towards a career in the Medical Sciences. Over the years, we have established a reputation as experts in getting students into medical school and helping them realise their ambitions. Oxbridge Programme Applying for a place at Oxford and Cambridge is highly competitive, and with over 30,000 applicants each year, even the most academically gifted students cannot be guaranteed success. Medical Science degrees are amongst the most highly competitive and intellectually demanding courses in the UK. Successful applicants must not only achieve the highest grades, but must also demonstrate a thorough subject knowledge, relevant work experience and the determination to handle the rigors of a career in medicine. At Chelsea Independent College, we guide our students through every stage of the admissions process. To maximize our students chances of entry, we offer a number of different courses that enable our students to take full advantage of our close ties with several internationally respected medical institutions and status as an accredited BMAT testing centre. The undergraduate degree courses offered by these universities are highly academic, and not necessarily appropriate for all students as they rely on a high degree of self-study. Admissions decisions are based on students ability, commitment and their potential to achieve. Students must demonstrate intellectual fervour and a thorough, extended subject knowledge for the course that they are applying for. The selection process usually includes at least two interviews, aptitude tests (in most subjects) and written work to access academic ability and potential.
