4 Texas Success Initiative State Law required for Public Institutions The Test Level of Skill Are you ready for college level work? Not measuring IQ or ability to succeed. THEA or Accuplacer (Compass etc.)

5 TAKS: Scoring 2200 in ELA and Math SAT: A combined score of 1070 with a 500 on the math and/or critical reading section ACT: a composite score of 23 with a 19 on the math and/or English section Some Technical Certificates Are TSIwaived Programs

7 Offered at Levelland, Reese, ATC,Plainview and Muleshoe Computer based test 2 ½ hours Students must wait 2 weeks in order to retest Must have 2 forms of ID a valid picture ID AND proof of SS # Please encourage students to arrive on time if they arrive late or without correct IDs, they will be denied testing All fees are non-refundable and non- transferable NO CELL PHONES, PURSES, BACKPACKS, ELECTRONIC DEVICES Must bring receipt with you on the day of testing Pre- registration required at least 3 days in advance either in our offices or online at TEST EARLY!!!!!!!!!

8 Paper/ pencil based test 5 hours to test on all parts Must register online at Cost is $29.00 Administered on specific Saturdays throughout the year Takes 3-4 weeks to get results

Administered on specific days in November and May on the Levelland campus May 16 Takes approx. 2 weeks to get results

10 LVN Students take the LVN Accuplacer. See each campus for specific requirements/passing scores. Levelland - Application due date is April 20, 2011 Cost is $35.00 Test consists of reading, LVN math, sentence skills, essay and communication Can test 2 times a semester Must pre-register and pay 3 days in advance

11 Cosmetology - Levelland Requires students to take the Cosmetology Accuplacer. Test consists of reading, arithmetic, and sentence skills Cost is $20.00 Must pre- register at least 3 days in advance either online or on the Levelland campus Students will go directly to the cosmetology department after testing for an interview Specific passing scores are NOT required

12 Pre- Physical Therapy Program New at SPC this Fall 2011 Students will take the HOBET exam which consists of reading, math, science and English Test is $40.00 computer based exam. Students must have clinical observations, 3 letters of recommendations Deadline for applying is June 15, 2011 Contact Jackie Underwood at or junderwood@southplainscollege.edu Surgical Tech Certificate requires TSI compliant in Reading. Application is due by May 1 EMS requires TSI compliant in Reading. Application is due June/July.

14 Certificate or Associate of Applied Science Certificate does not require TSI compliance Most of the classes will not transfer to a 4 year college Some programs (i.e. automotive, welding, cosmetology, LVN) are full time programs (M-F) and it would be difficult for students to work while in the program.

16 Health Information Tech Radiologic Tech Respiratory Tech Surgical Tech Fire Tech Nursing (RN) Requires taking a set of prereqs and then applying to the program. It s not an automatic admission and most only accept students for the fall semester.

17 Associates of Arts or Science Degree For students who are planning on transferring to a 4 year college. Sample Classes: (2) English classes (1) Speech class (2) or more Natural Science classes (1) or more Mathematic class (1) Visual/Performing Arts class (1) Humanities class (2) History classes (2) Government classes (1) Psychology or Sociology class (1) Computer class Remaining classes will be electives or major requirements. Consult with your Advisor for proper choice of courses.

19 Apply to SPC Send official transcripts File for Financial Aid (June 10) deadline for assurance financial aid will be ready for the fall, otherwise student may have to pay for their tuition until financial aid is processed. Pre-register to test and TEST Register for classes
