6 MIT Sloan School of Management 121 TIME Feedback and draft evaluation of the new web site With large interest and with large pleasure I am following the development of Factory121 SA and its brand 121TIME since the launch of the company. I have the opportunity to learn about many ventures in the area of mass customization, many of the initiated by large consumer goods companies with large capital and management capacities. However, Factory121 can be regarded also in comparison to these players as a leading best-practice company in the field mass customization in the consumer goods industry. Especially its web site and configuration tools represent the latest state of the art. They are a strong signal to the customization industry what can be possible if a configuration tool is developed and implemented purposeful and with large understanding of the specific demands of this business. I am regularly referring journalists to 121TIME as the "best" example of an online configurator, and use the company in my lectures at MIT and in corporate keynotes as the demonstrator of a "perfect" configuration toolkit. 121TIME will be also featured in an upcoming case study book, and has been selected as a lead teaching case in an upcoming MBA textbook in German language. The new version, launched in April 2006, has reinforced this evaluation and has set a new industry standard. There are still some minor bugs and several possibilities for improvement, but already in this stage the configurator is the leading edge.
