2 Enjoy an opportunity for OLLI members and guests to socialize and learn about the craft of a local wood carving artist, Mr. Henry Watson at First Baptist Church (12404 LA Hwy 10) in St. Francisville. People have come from all over the U.S., bringing old photographs of their homes for Henry to recreate on wood. His three dimensional works of art are carved with a chisel and mallet on old cypress and depict a unique art-form in an incredibly, creative manner. Henry Watson was fifteen years old when he started wood carving at Livonia High School in an art class. He watched his instructor carving, decided he wanted to master the craft, grabbed a screwdriver, and went to work. It did not take him long to discover that a screwdriver would not work, so he picked up a chisel and has used a mallet and chisel ever since to create his works of art. He refers to himself as The Woodcarving Artist on False River! Share with us! Send us your stories and photos to be featured in OLLI News! Amuse us with your anecdotes, show us what you learned today or share a photo from a field trip, and we'll take it from there. All you have to do is send your stories and pictures to OLLI. When sending photographs, please identify the subjects and the photographer. Join the OLLI Honor Roll today! The OLLI fundraising campaign continues. This year's campaign has raised nearly $7000 to date and includes over 80 donors. Our annual goal is $15,000 with over 125 donors, so please make your donation today! Your gifts are vital to the financial viability of the OLLI program, to our competitiveness in obtaining future grants from national foundations, and to the number and quality of our learning experiences throughout the year. Donors are recognized in the OLLI Honor Roll of Donors. Please make your check out to LSU Foundation, and on the memo line add For OLLI at LSU. Mail it to OLLI at LSU, 1225 Pleasant Hall, Baton Rouge, LA You may also give online using your credit card. Thank you!
