1 Athletic Compliance NCAA Rules Education November 18, 2014 Gambling, Sports Wagering Includes placing, accepting or soliciting a wager On a staff member s or student-athlete s own behalf or on the behalf of others With any individual or organization that involves any collegiate, amateur or professional team or contest Some examples Bookmaker or parlay card Internet sports wagering Point Shaving Auctions where bids are placed on teams, individuals or contests Pools or fantasy leagues (entry fee is required, opportunity to win prize) Wager any agreement in which an individual agrees to give up something of value in exchange for the possibility of gaining something else of value. 1

2 Recruiting Calendar Football Evaluation Period Throughout PSA s high school/2 year college season Dead period 48 hrs. prior to NLI signing December 17, 2014 Midyear Junior College Transfers Basketball Quiet period Ends - PSA s initial high school or two-year college contest Evaluation Period begins upon start of PSA s season All other sports No specified contact and evaluation periods Progress Towards Degree (PTD) Eligibility for Financial Aid and Practice After a student-athlete s initial year in residence or after the student-athlete has used one season of eligibility Based upon rules of the institution and the conference Stay in good academic standing Eligibility for Competition Pass 6 credit hours the previous full-time semester, and Before each fall term - completion of an average of 12 credit hours during each previous full-time term, or Completion of 24 credit hours since the beginning of the previous two regular semesters (part-time hours don t count toward credit requirement, but do count toward GPA) Upperclassmen 2.0 GPA, Soph , GPA Fresh /25 rule At least 75% must be earned during regular semesters Up to 25% can be earned during summer courses Declare major by 5 th semester (beginning of 3 rd year) 2

3 Progress Towards Degree (PTD) Hours earned or accepted for degree credit First 2 years of enrollment credit towards any degree Beginning 3 rd year, credit towards designated degree Final academic year of degree program Can use credits from any degree program to satisfy 6 hour rule PTD Exceptions Midyear enrollment transfer hours may be prorated at 12 credits per term to meet PTD during initial academic year Nonrecruited, Nonparticipant Graduate Student Exception Two-Year Nonparticipation Exception Must serve year in residence Disciplinary Suspension Foreign Institution Transfer Two-Year Transfers Qualifier with no previous 4-year college attendance Attended at least 1 full-time semester Transfers an average of 12 credit hours per full-time semester 2.0 GPA May still practice and receive aid if requirements not met All other qualifiers, partial qualifiers, nonqualifiers Attended at least 2 full-time semesters Graduated from 2-year college with 25% earned at graduating institution, or Transfers an average of 12 credit hours per full-time semester with at least a 2.0 GPA 3

5 Reminders from the NCAA Eligibility Center Academic Certification NCAA Eligibility Center is now providing preliminary academic decisions within 10 business days on cases that are Ready to Process Activated on your Institutional Request List (IRL) Transcripts from all high schools At least one test score on file This service is for domestic academic certifications only (international and homeschool cases are not included). Eligibility Center Amateurism Certification Prospective student-athletes who have a gap between high school graduation and enrollment at an NCAA college or university will often need to have their NCAA graduation date established so their amateurism certification may be processed. Official transcripts from all high schools attended or international academic records are required for this purpose. Reminders Competition/travel must be institution certified Roster and IRL updates Transfer and Freshman on roster should be on IRL New student-athletes who are returning students Compliance paperwork/medical training staff Register in eligibility center Complete amateurism in eligibility center CARA Reports Active/Inactive players on roster Travel Itineraries 24 hours before departure Official Visits 48 hours before visit Forms visits, try-outs, GIA, etc. 5
