3 Camps & Clinics Advertising What information must be included in advertisements? NCAA statement: Open to any and all entrants only limited by age/grade, number & gender TXST statement: Texas State is not the sponsor or operator of this camp Any discounts that the camp is offering must be advertised as such. (i.e. sibling discounts, early registration, group, etc.)
4 Brochure Guidelines Camps & Clinics Must be routed through Athletics Department on-line system Not restricted by content or design BUT must be two-sided sheet, not to exceed 17x22 when opened May be provided to a PSA of any age at any time May use S-A s name or picture only in the camp counselor section of the brochure to identify the S-A as a staff member May not name the camp Texas State Camp May use quotes from former campers, camper s parents, high school, prep school and two-year college coaches
5 Compliance Documentation Camps & Clinics Pre-Camp Employment Form Lists everyone who is planning on working at the camp, including S-As Copy of Brochure Post Camp Report Camp income, including salaries (provide amount paid & title) Camp expenses (i.e. t-shirts, insurance, etc.) Camp discounts (include who received the discount and why) List of all campers that includes first & last name, grade, amount paid and payment method
6 Camp Admission Fees Camps & Clinics Admission to camp must be on a first-come, first-served basis Spaces cannot be reserved or held Any discounts offered must be advertised/published and available to all on an equal basis Discounts must be based on objective criteria TXST staff members and camp coaches children may receive free or reduced cost camp admission even if the child is prospect-aged.
7 Who can work TXST camps? Current Student-Athletes (except for FB) Camps & Clinics High School, Prep School, Two-Year College Coaches and other IAWP (except for MBB) Athletics Staff Members. Current S-As, HS, prep school and two-year college coaches must be paid the going rate and may not be compensated based on the number of campers they send to camp. A S-A who only lectures or demonstrates at camp may not receive compensation. They must perform counselor duties. BASKETBALL ONLY: May not employ, on a volunteer basis or salaried basis, a speaker who is involved in coaching PSAs or is associated with a PSA as a result of the PSAs participation in basketball. They can be employed as a camp counselor and may perform speaking duties normally associated with camp counselor duties. MBB cannot employ an IAWP at all. BASKETBALL ONLY: Camp/clinic must include an educational session presented in-person or in a video detailing NCAA initial-eligibility standards and regulations related to gambling, agents and drug use to all camp/clinic participants.
8 Non-Institutional Camps & Clinics Camps & Clinics For a TXST coaching staff member to participate in a non-institutional camp/clinic they must receive approval from the compliance office (there s a form for that!) In addition, the camp or clinic must meet the following criteria: Be designed to develop fundamental skills in a sport (rather than refine the abilities of skilled participants in the sport) Be open to the general public Be conducted primarily for educational purposes and does not include material benefits for the participants Participants do not receive a recruiting presentation All participants reside in the state in which the camp/clinic is located or within 100 miles of the camp/clinic
9 Local Sports Club Camps & Clinics For a TXST coaching staff member to participate in a local sports club in any capacity, they must submit the Local Sports Club Notification form to the Compliance Office. Be aware that all prospect-aged participants in the local sports club must be legal residents of the area (within a 50-mile radius of the institution) Note that the 50-mile radius shall not apply a PSA if the institution can document that the local sports club is the closest opportunity for the PSA to participate in the sport. The institution may not sponsor the local sports club.
10 PLAYING & PRACTICE SEASON (SUMMER)
11 Summer Workouts Voluntary means: SA is not required to report back to ANY staff member. No staff member can report back to the coaches on activities. Activity must be initiated and requested solely by the studentathlete. Permissible to provide information to SAs related to available opportunities for participating in voluntary activities. Assigned times for SAs to use institutional facilities are permissible. Participation (or lack thereof) may not be recorded for reporting purposes. No penalties for not participating. No recognition or incentives based on attendance or performance.
12 PSAs & Summer Workouts A PSA may engage in voluntary summer workouts conducted by an institution s S&C coach and may receive workout apparel, provided s/he: Has signed an NLI or GIA or is a walk-on at Texas State AND Is enrolled at Texas State for summer terms(s) A PSA may engage in voluntary summer workouts in the presence of (as opposed to conducted by) a S&C coach but may not receive workout apparel, if s/he: Has signed an NLI or GIA with Texas State AND Is NOT enrolled at Texas State for summer terms(s)
13 PSA Summer Athletics Aid In order to be eligible for athletics aid, a PSA must: Be admitted to Texas State and Enrolled in a minimum of six hours Summer coursework cannot be used to complete/fulfill initialeligibility or transfer/ptd eligibility requirements. Internal athletics aid application must be completed with Keely. A PSA who receives athletically related financial aid during a summer term must be an initial and overall counter for the ensuing academic year (FB ONLY).
14 ROSTER MANAGEMENT
15 Roster Management Renewal/NonRenewal/Reduction Notification must be to the student-athlete by July 1 st Must complete the cancellation of aid form if you are not renewing anyone s aid Delete from Roster Submit form (along with cancellation form, if applicable) to the Compliance Office ASAP Addition to Roster Two choices Try-out or Preferred Walk-On Both options have forms that need to be completed
